01. I could lift you up.
Characters: Ivan and open
Setting: Dorm 2-08, Dorm Floor 2, Floor 69 (the cloud floor), and the Cafeteria
Format: starting with action, but I'll follow!
Summary: Just the usual newcomer shtick--waking up and trying to gather his bearings.
Warnings: Ivan has a bad habit of trying to mind read anyone and everyone he runs across if he thinks it'll get him the answers he wants faster than just asking--please make sure to let me know if this is or isn't okay! Otherwise, nothing.
Dorm Room 2-08
[The instant Ivan wakes, his mind begins to spin with questions. He couldn't remember lying down. When had he fallen asleep? Why couldn't he move? What was this strange white room? His brow knits in concern once he feels the ability to move once more, and sitting up, the blonde immediately starts to inspect the strange material he's clad in. Eventually, Ivan's hand comes to rest upon the collar affixed to his neck. He frowns.]
Huh...
[No, this definitely wasn't Tolbi. He was...somewhere else. But how had he been transported? And where exactly, for that matter? Ivan supposed that no such questions were ever answered in response to idle behavior, so he swings his legs over the side of his bed and stands.
Moments later, he's thoroughly inspected his trunk, relieved to find not only his traveling clothes and a few of the items he had been equipped with during the Colosso Tournament, but the Shaman's Rod nestled safely inside. With a sigh of relief, he picks it up after strapping his sword to his belt and storing his other items in his pockets. As it is, he doesn't want to leave the staff lying around out of his sight. Master Hammet would be rather upset if he lost it again, after all.]
I guess I should...oh!
[Ivan was just about to leave when he spotted the letters on the nightstand next to his bed. He darts back and grabs them, but not wanting to stay in the uncomfortably white room for much longer, he decides to read them as he explores.]
Dorm Floor 2
[Ivan's eyes scan through the letters fervently, his face becoming more and more troubled the further he reads. Likewise, his pace picks up to one of brisk agitation. Where he started off at least attempting to keep a solid awareness of his surroundings, he's soon so focused on the words on the paper that Ivan completely forgets to watch out for anyone else that may be walking nearby.
A full-on collision is becoming increasingly likely.]
Floor 69
[This floor is the first one that really catches Ivan's attention as he makes his way down as fast as he can manage. Maybe it was just because he was a Jupiter Adept (as he'd found out quite recently), but something about the large layer of clouds calms him drastically. Ivan sighs, his shoulders sagging in a relaxed fashion as he steps forward tentatively, onto the clouds.
Maybe this wasn't such a bad situation, after all. He'd find Isaac and Garet and Mia sooner or later and then they'd get back to finding the Elemental Stars.
For now, he could just...enjoy a moment of quiet serenity. Ivan smiles to himself, laughs a little, and plops eagerly down. It all seemed so simple and so manageable now. Really, he wasn't sure why he was getting so worked up in the first place.]
Cafeteria
[Once Ivan had gotten his wits about him once more, he went the rest of the way down to the Cafeteria without stopping, too wary of the rest of the floors to give in to any amount of curiosity. Sure, it wasn't pleasant to feel anxious...but Ivan would take feeling anxious to having clouded judgement (pun not intended) any day.
When he retrieves his bowl of oatmeal and finds a place to sit, he does so heavily (though he's at least considerate enough to lay the Shaman's Rod gently across his lap). Ivan doesn't want to eat--he isn't hungry--simply knows he should.
If only he could find the motivation to actually pick up the spoon and eat.]

[Ivan turns at the voice--but unfortunately for Sheba, the look on his face when she calls out his name is nothing short of confusion. She wouldn't have to read his mind to tell that he has no idea who she is.
That is, at least not for a long moment. A faint flicker lights up his violet eyes, and he gasps lightly in recognition.]
Ah! I remember you! You were staying with Babi, in Tolbi. [He pauses and frowns in thought, though makes no move to get up. Ivan seems quite comfortable.] I think...the man outside said your name was...Sheba? But...ah...how strange; I didn't think we'd been properly introduced.
[Though he had read her mind. And she had reacted quite strangely.]

[Sheba frowns. It's strange that Ivan only recognizes her from Tolbi - there are many more instances they've interacted that are, in her mind, much more significant. Lighting Mars Lighthouse, or teaming up in Contigo, or defending him from Karst and Agatio at Jupiter Lighthouse, or even that time at Venus Lighthouse where he and his friends had tried to bargain for her freedom.
Either the administrators have been messing with his memories, or he's simply pulled from another time. It's not the first time she's seen it happen in general and not the first time she's seen it happen to someone from Weyard. That doesn't make it any less disappointing for her to realize that one of her friends has no idea who she even is.
Using her words would take too long. She's sure Ivan can understand the sentiment; he'd read her mind in Tolbi, after all. So Ivan will soon feel the touch at the edge of his consciousness that indicates someone trying to read his mind. He's an Adept, so Sheba's sure he'll realize what's going on and will probably be able to block her out if he wants to, but she's looking for any sort of memories he might have past Tolbi.
And if he realizes she's an Adept because of this attempt, well, that's one conversation that will begin more quickly than it would otherwise.]

You're an Adept? A mind reader?
He doesn't stop her, though. Why should he? Ivan opens his mind to her, let's her poke around for whatever it is she's looking for. And if, in return, he attempts to poke back...well, could she really blame him?]

To Sheba, the words make perfect sense; probably not so much to Ivan, however, and as she peruses his memories she starts to realize that. There's their first meeting - a very brief one in her room - and then there's Isaac's participation in Colosso, but after that there's nothing except for the most recent memories of the Tower.
Her first instinct is to clamp down and block him out of her mind, but even she realizes how very hypocritical it would be if she did that. So she leaves her mind mostly open to him - he'll see her trek through the Suhalla desert with the Tolbi soldiers, and then an attack by monsters, Felix and Saturos and Menardi jumping in, and then Sheba continuing on with them, falling back to walk near Jenna and Kraden who both seem incredibly upset while Alex leads the way through the desert with his Mercury Psynergy, cool as anything...
Then there's the base of Venus Lighthouse, and Saturos' frustration when they can't find a way in. A demand for information, a mention of the ruins north of Lalivero, and they're off again -
A man that Ivan won't recognize as Faran, the horrorstruck faces of the Laliverans -
Underground caves and then the inside of Venus Lighthouse. The trek to the top. Felix being told to take Jenna and Kraden on ahead while Saturos and Menardi escort her to the aerie.
Felix's return, the argument, and then finally people Ivan will recognize, though not the situation - Isaac, Garet, Mia. Himself. Saturos' order for her to look into their minds, and then Menardi's reprimand as she gets too close. The negotiations for the Shaman's Rod. Felix taking the rod, Sheba turning to leave, and Menardi stopping her. A fight against Saturos and Menardi, which Ivan and his friends win; Felix stepping between them and Sheba. Saturos, grievously injured, tossing the Venus Star into the to light the beacon...
The terrible merging of Saturos and Menardi, their transformation into a dual-headed dragon...
There are more memories, but Ivan will have to dig deeper to see them; these are the most accessible because Sheba was looking for similar things in his mind.]
You already know how sorry I am for being late OTL
[As Ivan reads her mind, his face slowly and steadily falls into one of grim confusion. None of this had happened. And yet...he could see himself in her memories, and he couldn't stop looking. It felt like cheating, and yet...
Ivan pulls his mind back quickly when Saturos and Menardi transform, unsettled and quietly contemplative. He looks down at his hands--at the rod. He didn't feel as if he really knew Sheba...and yet, what he had just seen told him otherwise.
And he must have cared for her quite deeply as a friend to be willing to hand over the Shaman's Rod. Though, to be fair, he supposed he wouldn't abide letting a girl remain hostage just because he knew the Rod was important.
He doesn't need to say what he's thinking for her to see what it is written clear across his face, no abilities required. Ivan says it anyway, though his tongue feels thick and useless in his mouth.]
We're from...different points in time? How is that possible?
No worries! <333
[It probably has to do with the way the administrators bring people here and with the way that there are many similar worlds with only minute differences. On Ivan's world, maybe Isaac said yes somewhere that he said no on Sheba's. And maybe his world was destroyed much sooner than Sheba's had been.
That's a little unsettling, if she's being honest.]
But it seems to be true. The things you've experienced so far seem identical to the things you told me about. ...I guess "will tell me about" would be more accurate, since it hasn't happened for you yet.
