Characters: Frilly Prosecutor and You!
Setting: Backdated to 4th September, Floor 101
Format: Action but I'll match!
Summary: Edgeworth popped it for the first time in the nearly nine months he has been here and now just wants some time to think.
Warnings: Talk of death and shit.
[It was when he discovered that the scars on his arm had completely vanished that Edgeworth realised that the horrible nightmare he had of being attacked by Neoshadows and having his heart ripped out was not a nightmare – it was real. He had actually died. And, thanks to the tower’s nonsensical and frightening mechanics, he was alive again.
Death was supposed to be a permanent thing. It was supposed to mean the end of your life, forever. You never woke up again and that was it. After all, that was what had happened in all the murder victims whose deaths he had investigated. It was what had happened to his own father...
It was not that Edgeworth wanted to die - he did not. However, the way it occurred in this place - how you could have died in the most awful way possible and suddenly wake up the next day as if your death were just a nightmare was just terrifying to think about. Was this how Maya had felt when she had been killed?
Sure, supposedly, you did not die and all you did was have your replica body replaced but that fact did not make the prosecutor feel better - it was just another disturbing and frightening concept to think about.
Not wanting to meet Diarmuid or anyone else who was involved in the Science Team (well, not wanting to meet anyone at the moment), Edgeworth takes a quick trip to the island on Floor 101. He wanted some time to himself, to sit and come to terms with what had happened to him.
Edgeworth can be found standing under one of the trees, looking more solemn than usual. He wanted a quiet place to come to terms with what happened to him - and what he was going to do next.
Booooooother him!]

The tall knight slowly beelined toward him until there was conversational gap between them. Several feet most likely.]
Are you bothered?
no subject
Ngggh....no, I am perfectly all right, thank you. [Meaning: I am fine and if you think I'm not then I don't want to talk about it.]

[Waver had left his research for the time being--he wasn't getting anywhere yet, and a walk around the Tower was a decent way to stretch and try to clear his mind. But when he encountered Edgeworth, Waver's voice was short and strained to the point of actual anger. Of course he knew what had transpired, having healed Diarmuid's resulting injuries to the best of his limited skills.]
Explanation. [If Edgeworth had half a brain in his head, Waver wouldn't need to elaborate.] Now.
no subject
Except that he suddenly realised that Waver was probably not going to give him some peace and quiet yet. Edgeworth had a very good idea why the man was so upset....
Which was why he started walking away from both the tree and Waver. He did not need this right now!]

[What irritated him far more than the lack of an explanation was the utter dismissal--Waver hated being ignored. If Edgeworth had said so much as 'I don't want to talk about it'? The magus very well might have grudgingly accepted that. But this reaction caused a somewhat kneejerk response of Waver's own.]
[Even lacking magical ability on this floor, he was damn fast for a normal human. Waver closed the distance between them in no more than a few quick steps, moving to grab Edgeworth by the back of his collar and stop him cold.]
For future reference, if you wanted to change the subject? [Now instead of the strained note his voice had already had, Waver sounded dangerously, even disturbingly calm.] That was not a very fucking polite way to do it.
no subject
But ugh....he really did not want to be confronted with this right now.]
C-could you please let go of my clothing?! [And just leave him alone for a bit while you're at it? AFJSDKLFJSDALKFJ]

Forgive me, I just need a little time to gather my thoughts. [Well, at least he's admitted that much.]

I have been doing what you're doing right now for a solid decade.
Attempt to brush it off if you like, but don't insult my intelligence.
no subject
Okay, keep it cool. Keep it cool.]
I'm sure that I will be quite all right. [Or at least he hopes so. Death isn't something you can brush off but he's going to try his darnest to keep going.] As I said, I need some time to think.
no subject
...I probably owe you an apology. It's difficult to remember not everyone is quite so accustomed to the likelihood of sudden and untimely death.
[Shrugging, the lecturer made a dismissive motion with one hand.]
Don't concern yourself with showing up to the laboratory if you don't feel particularly up to it. Take whatever time you need to. [His voice might have been a bit more careless than it should have, but his words were still genuinely sympathetic.]

I am sorry for all the trouble. I promise I won't be away from the research for long. [Because he doesn't want to waste too much time - not with the little time everyone has left until they die for real.]

[Today might count as one of those times. Rick's stop by the laboratory was by no means a pleasant one--based on the amount of blood and general disarray (plus Waver's cranky mutterings), the Tower had its way with some unfortunate members of their team the previous night. After doing his part to clean what he could, Rick promptly left to go find the victims, which he understood to be Diarmuid and Edgeworth.]
[Diarmuid was nowhere to be found (he guessed that Waver had him hidden away someplace), but finding Edgeworth was relatively easy. Of course, now that he's found him, Rick has no idea what to do. He settles with standing a safe distance away and looking simultaneously concerned and extremely nervous.]
[It takes a minute or so of anxious feet-shuffling before he can get up the nerve to speak.]
...A-Are you...o-okay?
no subject
Actually, come to think of it, Rick wouldn't necessarily need to have been informed of Edgeworth's experience last night to work out what had happened. There was a good chance that he saw what had happened in the morning.]
.....I am perfectly all right, thank you. No need to be so concerned. [He doesn't sound all right.]

...B-But I am--e-e-everyone is. This...d-death isn't s-something p-people just...b-brush off.
Sorry this is late!
Sorry, man. He doesn't mean to be horrible but he's not in the mood for talking right now.]

...I'm...s-sorry. I j-just...w-w-want to help.
