Can Fix!

Characters: Rick, Waver, anyone else from the clear fluid research team and the Lancer Brigade.
Setting: September 16th, night, Floor 27 (laboratory)
Format: Should probably stick to action-spam on this one, but can match!
Summary: Rick decides that he's going to "help" his team by making sure that nobody stays in the lab after dark and gets killed again. Surprise, surprise, he falls asleep and ends up by himself with the beasties to keep him company.
Warnings: No character death in this one (hopefully), but there will likely be violence and injury and monsters 'n junk. You know, the standard Tower fare.

[It took more than a week of planning, lingering, and mental speeches for Rick to get up the nerve to finally try this. But it was necessary, he'd convinced himself--Edgeworth had died and Diarmuid was scarce, probably beating himself up over something that wasn't his fault, and Waver certainly wasn't in the best mood either, because he hadn't done a good enough job checking in on his teammates before retiring for the evening, making sure that they went somewhere safe before the unpleasant creatures of the night found them first...obviously this was something Rick could have prevented.]

[Well tonight he would not be so negligent! He'd park himself in a chair after dinner and wait until some hours after dark, just in case Waver sneaked in to take some last-minute measurements and lost track of time, or the like, and he'd make sure they all left with him, and he'd clean the place up and close the doors. There would be no mess, no deaths, no more pointless suffering and misery. Everything was going to go according to plan.]

[Things were going well enough when he arrived in the evening to the empty room and busied himself with cleaning used equipment. They were still going well when he sat down to copy and organize the newest batch of notes.]

[Still going well at the first yawn. Only a couple hours in--he really needed to get used to staying up this late. Still fine thirty minutes later when he began to nod off. Still fine...]

[...The lights are still on when he wakes up--it makes it difficult to tell what time it is, or how long he's been sleeping. All Rick knows is that he's been startled awake by some noise, a scuffling in what he expected to be an empty room. Did someone sneak in when he wasn't looking?]

...H-Hello?

[Diarmuid gives Waver a tired smile as he begins to lead the way.]

You mean beside me, don't you? We're partners and partners stand beside each other.

[Besides, how can Diarmuid watch Waver if he's behind him?]
fionnuisce: (move along just to make it through)

[personal profile] fionnuisce 2013-10-10 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Of course--my mistake. Either way, let's just get this taken care of and catch up with them.
oathshackledbird: Past (Past)

[Diarmuid smiles gently at Waver's words and then leads the way to the hiding spot. The whole time he keeps a close eye on his friend, ready to help him should he show any sign of needing it. He's actually really happy once they arrive, and he can get his container safely hidden. Despite being a servant and being more resistant to injury, his wound is starting to bother him more than he would like to admit. Perhaps it's because of the poison's lingering effects, but whatever the cause, Diarmuid will be glad once it is taken care of properly.]

Here, hand me your container now.

[He reaches back for Waver's box, hiding a wince when he realizes, belatedly, how bad an idea twisting with a side wound is.]
fionnuisce: (when you've lost yourself completely)

[personal profile] fionnuisce 2013-10-11 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Be careful, you idiot. Don't strain yourself.

[Frowning, Waver handed over everything he'd been carrying.]
oathshackledbird: Smile (Smile)

[personal profile] oathshackledbird 2013-10-11 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
[Diarmuid takes everything and starts to put it into hiding with the rest.]

Sorry. I wasn't thinking. I am going to feel better when this is done. We could all use rest. Especially you.

[Though, he has to admit, he will be happy to not be bleeding anymore as well.]
fionnuisce: (speak to me)

[personal profile] fionnuisce 2013-10-11 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
I'm just glad we all managed to survive. somehow. I can accept being a little low on magic in that case.
oathshackledbird: Calm (Calm)

[personal profile] oathshackledbird 2013-10-11 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[Diarmuid nods as he finishes putting things away, and then stands up slowly careful not to unbalance himself.]

How long will you be low on magic for?
fionnuisce: (speak to me)

[personal profile] fionnuisce 2013-10-11 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
A day or two, maybe? It's a little hard to judge, I don't often run low like this.
oathshackledbird: Grin (Grin)

[personal profile] oathshackledbird 2013-10-12 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
No matter. I will watch out for you no matter how long it takes.

[Like Diarmuid doesn't watch over Waver already, but...this will probably be some closer watching. Like servant right behind you all the time, watching.]
fionnuisce: (when you've lost yourself completely)

[personal profile] fionnuisce 2013-10-12 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
That's really not necessary. I'll just be cautious until I recover properly.
oathshackledbird: Blue Apple (Blue Apple)

[personal profile] oathshackledbird 2013-10-12 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
[Diarmuid raises an eyebrow at Waver, at the same time, motioning in the direction of the stairs so that they can make their way to the nearest floor with elevator access.]

Do you really think telling me it's not necessary is going to work?
fionnuisce: (and it was not your fault but mine)

[personal profile] fionnuisce 2013-10-12 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
No, but I think it was worth a shot.

[Shrugging, he turned and walked in the direction of the stairs.]
oathshackledbird: Red (Red)

[personal profile] oathshackledbird 2013-10-12 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[Diarmuid follows him, shaking his head.]

Will it help any that if I am hanging around you to make sure you are okay, you will more easily be able to make sure I'm letting my wound heal and not pushing myself too hard?
fionnuisce: (and it was not your fault but mine)

[personal profile] fionnuisce 2013-10-13 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Probably. Or I could just do something pretty stupid.

[Shrugging, Waver's hand glowed faintly as he used the last of his reserves to heal Diarmuid's injury at least enough to stop the bleeding.]

Heh...sorry.

[Aaaand that would be about when his legs gave out.]
oathshackledbird: Surprise (Surprise)

[personal profile] oathshackledbird 2013-10-13 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Waver!

[Diarmuid dashes forward to catch his collapsing friend, easing him to the floor. Once there, he gathers Waver into his arms, pulling him close.]

You idiot! Why did you do that! If you wanted me to carry you so badly, you could have just said so...
fionnuisce: (heart that will lead you to deceiving)

[personal profile] fionnuisce 2013-10-13 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
What do you expect, really...? You know I don't like to see you hurt. A little exhaustion is a small price to pay to fix that.
oathshackledbird: But... (But...)

[personal profile] oathshackledbird 2013-10-13 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Do you think I like seeing you hurt any better? And don't argue semantics with me. This is close enough. You can't even walk!

[Diarmuid buries his face in Waver's hair.]

Please...don't sacrifice yourself for me like this. You don't like it when I do the same for you...
fionnuisce: (didn't i my dear)

[personal profile] fionnuisce 2013-10-13 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
You're...you're right. I'm sorry--but it wouldn't have felt right to just leave things as they were as long as I had any strength to fix it.
oathshackledbird: Calm (Calm)

[personal profile] oathshackledbird 2013-10-14 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
It's all right. As much as I complain, if the situation had been reversed, you know I would have done the same.

[Diarmuid gives Waver a squeeze and then, without warning, lifts the man into his arms.]

No complaining, now. I'm carrying you and that's that.
fionnuisce: (heart that will lead you to deceiving)

[personal profile] fionnuisce 2013-10-14 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
Hm...alright. We should really meet your brother and Rick in the infirmary, but...until then, I think I'll just be sleeping for a while.

[Laughing in a slightly self-deprecating manner, Waver leaned his head on Diarmuid's shoulder and almost immediately fell asleep. Apparently prana exhaustion took a lot out of someone.]

[Better get to the infirmary and explain this one, Derry.]
