Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen

Summary: It's Nesir's birthday, she decides she should actually get round to reading her regain, and then sets herself a challenge
Warnings: Maybe talk of assassins/murder/last event. Nesir is generally not a nice person though she is not actively murderous at the moment...

[Beach] Nesir was quite surprised when she saw the date, though she knew it was coming up. In a few days she would have been in this place for an entire year and today she as sixteen. Nesir's birthday had never been celebrated and she wasn't about to start doing so in this fake place but she noted that she was a year older and that in her world she would have been considered an adult today. Ready to be apprenticed or to go out and find work, if she hadn't been a temple acolyte, if she hadn't been a dark trained assassin who had been training and working since she could walk.

The last few days she had spent training, working out her anger and frustration of being stuck in a room with Sephiroth for a week, of the hallucinations and the hunger. It helped that they ahad decent food, even if it was all pumpkin flavoured, which reminded her of her first month here, a year ago. She failed to see why in a world where everything was an illusion they had to eat pumpkin, surely there were other foods they could pretend to give them.

As it was the 'reward' she had been given had been thrown into her trunk and ignored for the last few days. Because as curious as she was, she at least knew when she was too angry to deal with more things. But today was as good as any day.

She liked the beach floor, because as little as she had actually spent time on the seafront as a child the sound of the sea reminded her of home, so she sat on the sand, cloak drawn around her and took out the folder. As expected it didn't have that many answers, the first few entries were almost medical, her and her sisters birth was recorded; they had been early it seemed and no one had expected there to be two of them.

Anyone on the beach floor would see Nesir lost in her reading, a half angry, half confused, sad look on her face.

[Maze] It was always good to be challenged, and Nesir needed something to focus on. For once she didn't feel like killing things, though she would, if need be. Her daggers were ready. She hadn't tackled this maze before but she set off, determined to solve it.

A decision she was beginning to regret a few hours later when she opened yet another door, to more doors, helplessly lost.

And Hidetoshi is not explaining how the vast majority of "magic" on earth is cheap parlor tricks and scams and the rest is restricted to the plot and fighting, or the general modern attitude towards it. He settles on a pinched-looking expression. ]

Well I do be hoping if you do be going back, you will be educating them.

[altitonant_emperor]

That, [ he replies. ] would be a task much too large for me alone to get done. Anyway, I still need to finish attending and graduate school myself.

Can you no be teaching about it at this school of yours?

[altitonant_emperor]

Our public education system is much stricter than that, Nesir-san. I'm not going to teach, nor I would be qualified to do so until I go to college for several years and pass my teacher's exams.

[culbutiri]

That do be being stupid, all acolytes do be teaching in the temple, it do be a sign that they have been learning properly.

[altitonant_emperor]

[ Sigh!! ] That's an intriguing way of doing it, but while students are encouraged to study together and share knowledge, so forth, that method is not one of the ways they gauge the process of learning in our schools.

If I attempted to educate my peers about magic, I would be ignored and ridiculed at the best.

So they would be ignoring the attempt to be being educated, and instead be mocking the teacher. That do be being stupid.

[altitonant_emperor]

[ Irritably recognizing Nesir wasn't willing to budge on her opinion anymore than he was, and having no specific desire for their first conversation in a while to dissolve into another argument, Hidetoshi sniffed. ]

I can't argue that most adolescences aren't stupid and similarly self-absorbed. [ In his and her worlds!

Hidetoshi, you're a damn teenager too. ]

Well that do be being true. Though if they do no be willing to be learning why do they even be going to these schools in the first place.

[altitonant_emperor]

It's the law.

[ A pause. Also: ] If you don't, it is extremely difficult to gain employment. It's not true for all students, but most just want to graduate successfully and go into their chosen fields, not broaden their minds.

[culbutiri]

That do be being a stupid law. Why would you be having a law saying what everyone do be having to do. [Definition of a law sweetie.]

What do you wanting to be doing then? When you do be rising past school.

[altitonant_emperor]

[ Rest assured that comment about everybody being expected to be equally subjected to the law earned plenty of internal eye-rolling. Old habits die hard.

But: ]

Coincidentally, I am planning on studying to be a teacher once I graduate.

[culbutiri]

The it would be making even more sense for you to be being allowed to be practicing before hand. That do be being like learning you to be fighting but no be being allowed to spar.

[altitonant_emperor]

That's your opinion. Again, our worlds are different. Therefore, our approaches to educational methods are different as well. [ And hey, Hidetoshi is aware that the public school system is flawed. ]

Still, I admit you do have a very valid point there. [ Even if it's not very realistic if he applied it to his world. Students' attitudes, misinformation, peer relationships, the disdain for properly doing their homework when they could be goofing off with their friends... Geh. All of those would get in the way. ]

[culbutiri]

I do. [She nodded with a grin] Tohko did be saying that many people did be going to these school but did no be knowing what they did be wanting to be doing after. You do be being superior in that regard.

[altitonant_emperor]

Tohko? An acquaintance of yours, I presume.

[ He puffed up (figuratively) at the small compliment. ] Of course. It would be irresponsible on my part to be otherwise. I'm not the directionless kind of person without a goal of my own to work towards.

[ Hidetoshi pauses. ] ... Ah. Come to think of it, I don't recall you ever speaking of your own goals once you're grown up, Nesir-san?

[culbutiri]

She do be someone I do be knowing, you do be being lucky not to be knowing her. [She nodded, she couldn't imagine being directionless and she Hidetoshi didn't seem like that either.]

I will be being a warrior of my temple, I do be being an acolyte now.

[altitonant_emperor]

Hm? Does she have an irritating personality? [ Hidetoshi asked, taking a guess from the way Nesir had worded that. ]

That does sound impressive. Where is an acolyte in your temple's hierarchy?

[culbutiri]

She do be being very irritating [She sighed and then grinned] It do be being the second level, you do be being a trainee at first and then you do be being tested and becoming an acolyte and then when you do be being ready you do be being tested again and be being a warrior or a priest or priestess if you do be having magic.

[altitonant_emperor]

You have my sympathies for putting up with her then. Those sort of people do get tedious.

[ Hidetsohi knew very well about dealing with annoying others in the school hallways. ]

That make sense. [ He sounds like he means it when he says that. ]

Tedious do no even be covering it. [She nodded] So I do be being part way there, I do be having a lot to be learning though.

[ He grins. ] Everybody always does, wherever they are. If anybody said they didn't, I wouldn't really believe them.

[ There's a little dry self-decaptation in that remark. ]

That do be being true, only fools and liars do be saying they do be knowing everything.

What do you be wishing to be teaching?

[altitonant_emperor]

I don't have any solid preferences at this time. [ He rubbed his chin. He'd say something like 'social studies' or 'human ethics" but lol he remembers her nonsensical morals. ]

Something useful, probably. Something that would make the next generation look at the world more clearly.
