Format: Anything is fine.
Summary: It's Jenna's best friend's birthday, and hopefully the surprise hasn't been ruined! This is a mingle log so mingle and have fun because nothing too scary has happened yet this month and that seems pretty rare.
Warnings: Nothing really.

[Early that morning, Jenna can be found in the kitchens getting ready. There's a lot to do to get ready after all, and she wants to make this as close to perfect as she can.

At about noon, she can be found on the meadow floor. She has managed to filch some fabric in place of blankets and has spread them around like one would for a picnic. Various types of food are set out, and some even aren't pumpkin thanks to hunting and gathering efforts. Jenna sent a note to Sheba the night before, hoping that it will get to her the next day, but if she doesn't show up she'll go and fetch her herself.

[Lancer just materializes on the floor. He watches the setup for a moment and then...]

Need any help with the lifting?

[Rick cleans up well for special occasions, and even more so for promises. It's almost impossible to tell how troubling the first few weeks of October have been for him as he busies himself in the kitchen making as many dishes as he can think of and their gathered ingredients can allow, arriving early in the morning and working well into the late afternoon. The only breaks he gives himself are to deliver fresh batches of warm sandwiches, cut fruits and vegetables, uncooked kebabs of whatever meat Jenna brought him, and simple desserts. His idea is to set up some kind of bonfire to fight off the fall chill and cook the main course in a more social setting, but that's ultimately up to their host.]

[Needless to say the blonde man has his hands full, but he seems quite happy to be working, and will gladly pick up conversation with whoever wanders in to help (or is just curious).]

Nice, did you make that food?

[Lancer pops up behind Rick in the kitchen. He was also here to prepare for the party, though he's more of a mover than a cook.]

[He jumps--didn't hear anyone come in--but recognizes Lancer's voice fast enough that he's not too alarmed. The plate of meticulously arranged celery and sliced apples in his arms remains, to his immense relief, unscathed.]

--O-Oh! Lancer--hi! [Rick flashes a grin before setting down the platter in a safer location. There's a bowl of rising dough on the other end of the counter that requires his attention, which he returns to with surprising speed.] Uh--y-yeah, I mean--a g-good a-a-amount. I-I've had h-help.

Nice. Looks delicious.

[He looks down at the dough.]

That's gonna be bread, right?

I-If e-e-everything goes w-well, yes.

[He's never made bread before--he just knows a couple of recipes for it and never got around to trying them. If it's anything like pizza dough, though, it needs a pretty thorough kneading.]

...W-What are y-you up to? J-Just, ah...ch--checking up? [Making sure he hasn't attracted another horde of orcs?]

Nothing much. Just keep an eye out for my friends. Since it's a Ruana month and all.

[Rick's expression turns alarmingly severe for a hardly perceptible moment and, without really thinking about it, he gives the dough in the mixing bowl a violent punch. Whatever inner turbulence that caused this seems to resolve itself fairly quickly thereafter.]

...Y-Yeah. G-G--Good plan...I a-a-appreciate it. [He squints with worry.] ...B-Been quiet, though, h-hasn't it?

Almost too quiet. But it's gonna hit Halloween soon. And Ruana likes that holiday.

O-Oh yeah...

[Early fall...that did make it October, didn't it? Relatively so, anyways. Although that begged the question...]

...H-How does she e-even know a-about H-H-Halloween? Do you think sh--she h-had that, w-w-wherever she's f-from?

I don't know. Maybe. Anyway, she knows of it and she likes to play special games for that holiday.

[Mia's here bright and early, helping to make sure that everything runs smoothly. Thankfully, it didn't look like anything was set to go wrong. Anyone is feel free to offer help, though, so that Sheba's special day is the best it can be!]

[Well guess who wandered onto the floor and is staring at all the food in delight. She wasn't sure what was going on though.]

Wow, what all this for?

[For once, this is a day in the Tower she's actually been kind of looking forwards to since she became aware of it. In a place where the usual subjects to contemplate ranged from such uplifting subjects as "The gruesome way another one of my friends died" and "What horrific atrocities are the admins going to inflict upon us next" to "We might all have only months to live", having an honest-to-goodness birthday of a friend to look forwards to made an incredibly welcome break in the typical atmosphere.

So here she is, looking just a little bit more cheerful than usual when she steps onto the floor, armor just a little bit cleaner than usual. Not much she can do about the assorted dings and nicks in said armor, Tower life is hard on equipment after all, but she's made an effort to be as presentable as she can absolutely be.]
