[open] // it’s your blood that’s red like roses
Characters: Waver and open
Setting: November 23rd
Location: floors 27, 15, and the dorm floors
Format: starting in brackets, I'll try to match.
Summary: Waver's having problems.
Warnings: Probably none?
[floor twenty-seven]
[Working usually took his mind off of things. Today seemed to be the exception; Waver stared blankly at his notes as though he wasn't really seeing them, pen hovering just over his paper. it seemed as though he was having trouble getting a train of thought properly started...or he was on a much less science-oriented one altogether.]
[floor fifteen]
[If the usual work on the collar fluid wouldn't hold his attention, maybe something more practical would. In the course of his day Waver found his way to the workshop floor; someone did need him to craft new swords. Film materials or not, he had every intention to do as much. So one could find him drawing up vague outlines for paired shortswords and collecting a pile of materials for them.]
[dorm floors]
[Maybe it just wasn't worth trying to do anything today. Not with the miserable mood that kept rearing its ugly, murderous, and nauseating head. Waver decided that perhaps just trying to actually accomplish things was best left for tomorrow. If he slept on the whole mess of Sephiroth and all that had happened for another night, maybe it would be less of an overbearing weight to handle.]
[Maybe.]

[Diarmuid is deeply touched that Waver is so willing to bear all of that for him, but at the same time there is part of him that screams it is wrong for him to allow such a thing. Diarmuid is a knight. He should be able to handle all of this himself. He should be able to find a way that doesn't require dishonor just as his brother had said.
So why hasn't he been able to?]
There should be another way. You shouldn't have to do all of that to protect me. I should be able to find that way. It's what I do, isn't it? I'm their light. I find the honorable way in the darkness. That is why...
[His voice trails off when he suddenly realizes just why everyone has been so upset with him about this. Waver had said so much during their anonymous conversation, but it just hadn't sunk in.
It's sinking in now.]
They are just as afraid as I am, aren't they? If even I fall, what chance do they have?
no subject
[A quiet laugh escaped him, the sound of it just a little downcast.]
Although...I think that if you don't try to carry everything yourself, you're far less likely to fall.
no subject
[Diarmuid pauses and laughs sadly, the sound nearly matching Waver's earlier laugh.]
I wasn't trained for this. No one could ever train for this. I have to stop expecting myself to be able to do all I would normally do, be all I would normally be. It's too much here. Too much.
[He looks up at Waver, reaching up to lightly run his fingers over his friend's cheek.]
I should just be what I want to be, right? And let those who want to help me, help me?
no subject
[Leaning into Diarmuid's hand, Waver closed his eyes with a small smile.]
Although if you want my opinion, I think that to be a good course of action. If it's what you want, then do what you feel is right and be whoever you think you should be. Just know that I don't think it's possible to always find an honorable course of action.
When that becomes a problem...I'll be here. Unlike you, I have few hangups over morality or honor; I doubt I ever have.
no subject
[Lightly, Diarmuid's fingers continue to stroke Waver's cheek.]
I just don't want you to feel like all you are is my shadow either. I don't want you to ever feel like you have to do something because I will not. Will you promise me you won't do that? I know you don't worry about honor as much as I do, but I still do not wish to be the direct cause of you constantly dishonoring yourself.
no subject
But you're not allowed to complain when I do end up doing something awful. I've warned you countless times that I'm not a particularly good person, so don't be shocked when I prove it.
no subject
I expect you will always think less of yourself than you should. That is why it is good that I am here to try and correct that error. Besides, if you do something like that, I am not likely to think less of you for doing it. You know me.
[Diarmuid looks down, a sheepish look crossing his face.]
I will find a way to blame myself for not finding a way to prevent you from needing to take those actions.
no subject
[Shaking his head in exasperation, Waver seemed to give up on the potential debate.]
Forget it. Let's worry about that when and if it happens.
no subject
[A fond look fills Diarmuid's eyes and he too lets the topic drop. Perhaps it is because he has fought with so many over the last few days, but he doesn't want to fight with Waver now. Especially when it's over something like this--an issue they both know will take a while to work through, if it ever happens.]
How about we worry about something else for the moment?
[Suddenly, a grin crosses Diarmuid's face, while at the same time his puppy ears twitch mischievously.]
Like if your Puppy Servant has filled his quota of ear scratches today?
no subject
You poor, affection-starved thing. How can I possibly let this stand?
no subject
I will be embarrassed to death about this later. Remind me, okay?
no subject
no subject
I am not even going to ask what evil you're planning. I'm just going to sit here and enjoy the ear scratches while they last....
no subject
[Waver leaned forward slightly, giving Diarmuid a light kiss while he was off his guard.]
...opportunistic, I think.
no subject
[Diarmuid grins and starts to lean in to rest his head against Waver's, stopping only when he realizes if he does that it might be kind of hard for Waver to keep scratching his ears.
Decisions, decisions. It's so hard being a Puppy Servant sometimes.]

[Diarmuid grins at Waver and then leans forward...and licks the other man's nose.]
I'm trying to be a little less foolish every so often now.

No, that I call finding new and fun ways to surprise you. You don't get to be the only one to do that, you know.

I can't try and surprise you now. You are ready for it!

Oh...I can think of some things that might surprise you even now, but 'surprise' and 'give heart attack' are two different things, and one of those is one I would rather avoid.

[It happens quickly enough that if Waver blinks, he will miss it, except it will be kind of hard for Waver to miss suddenly being on his back with Diarmuid leaning over him. For a moment, it seems like the Servant is going to kiss him and then...
Why yes, he is trying to tickle Waver with the end of his tail. That's a bit...of a surprise now, isn't it?]
