★ 1 - FLOOR FOUR

She hasn't slept in her room for a couple of nights - the sofas on the lounge level are infinitely more comfortable and it's not nearly as stuffy as that ugly little room. She's been getting more and more tired, mistakenly chalking it down to the fact she hasn't had soda for a few days.

Either way she's lying on a sofa, head lolling off the edge of it, possibly snoring just a little bit.


★ 2 - KITCHEN

Her shift in the kitchen was supposed to start half an hour ago. But she stayed up all night making plans to get out of this place playing her gameboy and so when she sits down and rests her head on her crossed arms she can't help but doze off...

France had found her way into the kitchen in hopes of finding something to make the gruel they'd served vaguely edible.

Instead she found America taking a nap of all things. "Amelia?" she called, moving closer to prode at the girl's shoulder. "What are you doing here chérie?"

Maybe if she pretended to not wake up everyone would leave her alone.

No answer, but it was fairly clear that she wasn't asleep, given the fairly... fake snoring sounds she was trying to use.

France raised a brow. She'd been there with England as the child grew up, so she wasn't fooled for a second.

Instead, she reached out and pinched Amelia's ear.

"HEY!" She jerked awake and grabbed France's wrist. "What the hell, France? Tryin' to sleep, can't you see?"

"If you want to sleep, you should do so in your room, not the kitchen," she answered flatly, shaking the girl's hand off - ow, that grip...

"Speaking of which, why are you even in here Amelia?" she asked, curious. "I thought you preferred eating food to cooking it?"

"I work here," she retorted, grumpy as anything, crossing her arms and resting on them. "And I didn't want to sleep here it just... kinda happened."

She poked at Amelia's head. "Well, if you are working here, shouldn't you be... working?"

"Who says I'm working right now, huh?"

"You're in the workspace - you should be working." She glanced around and noticed that while everywhere else in the kitchen had signs of recent activity, the space around Amelia was strangely... clean.

"... Have you been sleeping since you arrived here??"

"Since I arrived in the tower? No. That would be stupid."

Whether she wilfully missed the actual question or not is another matter.

France can't tell if America's just being a smartass or actually misinterpreting the question due to her... lower brain functionability.

"... Quite," she answered, absently reaching over to comb America's hair back neatly. "Have you done any work today?"

"A little bit..." All lies of course. Normally she'd object to France treating her like a child but really, it's almost comforting. Even if she won't admit it, this tower is really starting to get to Amelia...

France raised a skeptical brow at America's response but didn't say anything. Finished with the girl's hair, she glanced around the quiet kitchen. "Are there any ingredients we can actually cook with here?

"They don't expect you to cook. Just put things in this huge oven and wait around."

A pause.

"... I'm really bad at waiting for things."

"Really? I'd never noticed," she answered, voice deadpan, even as her lips twitched with fond amusement. "Considering how quiet this tower is, how have you kept yourself out of trouble?"

"Yeah." Oblivious. "I've been sleeping a lot. Because the food's really awful and without food I've got no energy and yeah. What've you been doing?"

Men, she wanted to answer. Instead she shrugged. "Oh, trying to settle and not cause any unnecessary drama. I would cook for you but I don't think there are very good ingredients to use, and somehow I don't get the feeling the effort would be appreciated."
