[As soon as Terezi was done showing Kanaya around the Tower, she made a beeline for Karkat's room. Her anger had dulled a bit, but now, standing in front of his door, it flares up again. For once, she actually knocks, because she needs the time to compose herself so that she doesn't just barge in and punch him in the face.

Hey, maybe Kanaya was wrong. Maybe he hadn't been toying with her.

She doubts it.]

[Her hands curl into fists at her sides, and the horrible thing is that she knows hitting him won't make her feel any better.]

We were friends, right? Or were you just faking that, too? You must have been! Otherwise you would actually care how much you're hurting me!

[She's too angry to even realize how much she's admitting, or how vulnerable she's making herself. That won't come back to haunt her later or anything.]

[Ok, now we're entering hysterical territory. He's a little unsure, but he knows any kind of contact will likely result in broken bones, so he simply pulls his hands out of his pockets and tries to gesture instead.]

Hey, come on. Relax. Of course we're friends.

Really? Why don't you apologize, then? Or give me an explanation? Or do something besides act aloof and arrogant for once?

[He takes a chance and steps closer, holding his hands up to show he's not going to try and touch her or do anything else questionable.]

Alright, lets step this back for a second. You challenged me to this dating business. All I did was follow through.

[Wow, really?]

So as soon as you realized I was flushed for you, you should have backed off! How is that a difficult concept?

How would that have helped any? Answer: It wouldn't have. In fact, the end result would've been the same. You asked. I delivered. Its what I do.

[He really doesn't care, does he?]

You tricked me.

[Pause.]

But I was stupid for trusting you at all.

[His palm collides with his face.]

I didn't trick you, Jegus.

[...but he doesn't argue the second point.]

Lying by omission.

[Her voice cracks, and suddenly, she isn't even angry anymore. Just exhausted, and embarrassed, and hurt. Part of her is still hoping he'll apologize, or say something to make it better. She can't possibly imagine what that would be, though.]

No. Cut that shit out.

[He's starting to get frustrated now. He knows exactly why she's taking this so personally, but he can't help it.

Karkat takes a chance and grips her by the shoulders.]

I didn't agree to the damn dates to trick you into anything. That's not lying by omission, its not lying at all.

[Surprisingly enough, she actually doesn't pull away. She only glares at him.]

You were doing a good job of acting like you were flushed, too. What were you going to do when I brought it up? Treat me like I was being ridiculous, like you're doing now?

[He stays silent for a moment before he opts for honesty.]

I didn't have that planned out. Like I said, this wasn't really a planned affair.

[First smart thing he's done all night. She steps back, breaking his hold on her.]

You aren't even going to admit you were wrong, are you?

I could, but it wouldn't make you feel any better.

[She narrows her eyes.]

It would be a start.

Alright, alright.

[Pause.]

You never answered me. What prompted this?

[Hey, look at that. He actually admitted it! She never thought he would. She takes another step back, plopping down on one of the beds.]

It doesn't matter.

Yes it does, or I wouldn't have asked.

[He actually looks a little angry, though its impossible to say why.]

[She sighs. She's too tired to even argue anymore.]

Kanaya warned me.

[His knuckles crack as they curl and it takes every ounce of his self control not to walk out the door and charge after Kanaya.

That little rat. He was going to wring her neck.]

Right.

[He straightens himself in a dignified fashion.]

Its none of her business. Like I'm a god damn plague.

She's your moirail, isn't she? That makes it her business, stupid.

I still haven't gotten an apology.

[WHOOPS, TIME TO IGNORE THAT QUESTION.]

It'd be insincere. I can apologize for being a douchebag.

[She scowls, but hey, at least he's being honest.]

Is there anything else you're sorry for?

[LIKE TOTALLY BREAKING HER HEART MAYBE?]

Would you stop that? I already told you I didn't do it maliciously.

[She's silent for a moment, then shrugs, her voice quiet.]

It still hurts.

[There's a long pause of silence where his frustration just builds and builds before he abruptly stands and smacks the door open to get to a computer terminal to type a message.]

[Wow, okay, Karkat. Way to be a douchebag. She doesn't follow of course, just sits on the bed and tries to decide if she should storm off herself.]

[When he returns, he looks considerably calmer, though he can't quite stop the shaking in his hands -- it turns into slight twitching of his fingers.]

[She's silent for a long moment. Part of her is still angry at him, but unfortunately, that doesn't mean she still doesn't care about him.

Siiigh.]

What?

[He looks at her briefly, as if considering being honest, before he simply looks away and strides in the other direction. No, he's too shaken for this.]

Nothing.

[Somehow, that response only irritates her further, and she doesn't respond. She simply stands up and heads for the door.]

[He doesn't stop her -- he's way too focused on trying to keep his cool, considering she's still in the room. He's silently hoping she'll just keep walking before the gasket pops.]

[Yup, she is definitely gone. Way to fuck up, Karkat!]
