Track 02 - Here Comes the Sun [OPEN]
Characters: Yosuke Hanamura and YOU!
Setting: Floor 25
Format: I'll follow, but action is far faster for me
Summary: Yosuke's in a half-thinking, half-escapist mood. What better place to do both?
Warnings: None!
[In the middle of this springtime meadow is one high school student, sprawled out on the grass with his headphones on and blasting music. He switches every few minutes between nodding his head to the beat and looking oddly contemplative. But he's aware of his surroundings, and as people pass he'll do one of two things]
[If Yosuke doesn't know you, he'll simply smile and offer a friendly wave]
[If he does, he'll slip the headphones off his hears and give a greeting] Hey!

As it is, though, Link sort of blinks, stares, then... takes them anyway, doing as instructed. It's kind of weird, and being Hylian with ears like this, Link can't help but wonder why humans would, you know, do this sort of thing... when you can play your own instrument. ]
...?
[ Head... tilt... ]

Here, try this one.

Link has never heard anything like it. Heck, it'd be surprising if they'd ever heard a piano, because you won't find that in a forest. Mostly wind instruments. There is so much staring going on here, because this is amazing.
Listening until it's done, Link has only one thing to say: ]
... Is this magic? Does this music... transport you anywhere?
[ Yeah. Technology? What is that? Don't you have magic songs? ]
no subject
[But only for a moment before he grins and laughs]
Literally? No.
Figuratively? Absolutely. It's one of the things I absolutely love about music. I even carry those almost everywhere, so I'm never far from a good song.
no subject
... I see.
[ Huh. Weird. ]
This isn't like any instrument I have ever heard played... it is lovely, though there's a different sort of magic to it than the music I know.
[ In a way, it's odd, hearing music that is not positively vibrating with magical energy, or music coming from the trees themselves, within the forest. To someone like Link, everything had a song to it if you listened. That was what magic was about. But they feel this to be a little too touchy-feely and oddly introspective, so perhaps that's better left unsaid.
Plus, Yosuke might find it odd. ]

But even if it's not that kind of magic, I love music. Sometimes I wish my life had a soundtrack, and then I remember - [He points up at the headphones] - that I more or less give it one.
no subject
[ ... Though Link has no idea what soundtrack means, they can probably infer it? But there is one thing that has got to be asked: ]
But... where are the people who play it?
[ Link is kind of looking at the headphones like tiny musicians might be hiding in them. WE KNOW YOU'RE IN THERE, TINY MUSICIANS. COME TALK TO US. ]
no subject
[So, how to explain technology to the technologically illiterate?]
That's... a long answer, but I'll try and explain it. The musicians played the music into a machine, and the machine recorded it and made it so that people could play the music back on other tiny machines they can carry around. So the music playing through those headphones is coming from one of those tiny machines.
no subject
Ah. ... I see, so it's more a mechanical function and the music is written on to the machines in some way?
[ Since... recording to Link is "writing in a book" and all that. ]
no subject
Yeah, like that. Naoto can explain it better, if you're curious. ... actually, anything I explain that doesn't really make sense, Naoto can probably explain better.
no subject
... I'll be sure to ask, in that case. Your... machinery is a bit beyond Hyrule's, I'm afraid...
[ Haha. Gosh, do they really want to ask Yosuke some other things, but at this point Link feels it better to keep it to theirself, because it's not right to bring Yosuke back to that earlier frustration.
This was their problem, not his. He deserved better. ]
no subject
... [He chuckles at that]
Man, if it weren't for all that shadow stuff I wouldn't even think magic exists, and you've got songs that teleport people places?
no subject
That's... rather surprising to me, I must say. Where I live--or... where I've lived until recently, magic is so commonplace that it seems... strange to me not to see it in every thing, not to sense it all around me...
[ Pausing. ]
Music, too. Music is its own magic... notes carry farther than even the best spell. Music is a good conductor for magic, which is why an instrument is easy to endow with it.

... Then, a laugh. ]
Yes, easily. It would be up to the creator to give it the proper magic capabilities, but I am rather certain it would be very simple a task.
[ Silly Yosuke, why wouldn't they be able to? ]
no subject
... alright, that's officially awesome. I want a magic guitar. You have any spares with you, Link?
no subject
Unfortunately, I could make you one, but I don't have one with me or the materials, and... I am certain it would have to be made in my world with magic and the proper intent...
[ Alas. Sorry, bro. ]
