Track 02 - Here Comes the Sun [OPEN]

Setting: Floor 25
Format: I'll follow, but action is far faster for me
Summary: Yosuke's in a half-thinking, half-escapist mood. What better place to do both?
Warnings: None!

[In the middle of this springtime meadow is one high school student, sprawled out on the grass with his headphones on and blasting music. He switches every few minutes between nodding his head to the beat and looking oddly contemplative. But he's aware of his surroundings, and as people pass he'll do one of two things]

[If Yosuke doesn't know you, he'll simply smile and offer a friendly wave]

[If he does, he'll slip the headphones off his hears and give a greeting] Hey!

Who would want to kill you? Hell, you might be one of the nicest people I've ever met, regardless of race.

[She smiles a little at that]

I'm glad you think so. But to some of the trolls here, all that matters is that I'm a redblood and that alone is enough for them to feel justified in killing me.

A redblood? I don't understand.

Oh that's right, you don't know about that. Trolls all have different coloured blood and what blood you have determines your rank in society. Red - my red - is the lowest you can get without being outside the hemospectrum.

Just because you're blood is red-

[Excuse Yosuke for a moment. He's no stranger to racism or elitism, but this is new even for him. Eventually his face goes from bewildered to pissed]

- that's bullshit! You're not a lesser person because of your blood color! Those bastards...

That's troll society for you. Of course, there are some now who realise how silly it all is but there are still many who cling to what the hemospectrum dictates. And to a sea dweller, someone who is basically royalty, someone like me is an easy target.

We'll see just how much of an 'easy target' you are. If that bastard tries anything, we'll just knock 'em down a few pegs.

Yosuke, it's okay. Killing me without a good reason isn't going to achieve much for them, and I should have known better than to spend any length of time within reach of a sea dweller.

[He groans and runs a hand through his hair]

Right, sorry. I'm sure you're used to it and all, it just... really pisses me off.

I can understand that. I'm sure there are things humans do that I wouldn't understand. Doesn't make it right but you just get used to it.

[Remembering another conversation about a similar subject, he sighs]

Yeah, you're right. Sorry, I sort of lost my head for a minute there.

It's okay, really. You're still calmer and more rational than some of the trolls I know. And I appreciate the thought behind it.

Calm and rational, huh? I guess I really have grown some.

Well, I wouldn't take it as the biggest compliment given the trolls I was referring to but you've always seemed that way to me.

Well that's because you've never known me at my dumbest. And I'm completely okay with that.

[She giggles]

I think we all have moments when we're not at our best.

Even you?

[He nudges her in the side teasingly]

I find that one a little hard to believe.

I know it must come as a shock to you but yes, even I've had my less than brilliant moments.

Not too many, I hope. You're too young to have made that many mistakes.

Well, maybe not many but the ones I've made have been pretty far-reaching. But they were unavoidable, that much I understand now.

... well, you're not letting yourself get torn up over them. That's good that you managed to get up and move on. Not that I ever thought you weren't the type to do that.

Well, there's no point in dwelling over what couldn't have been changed. We did what we had to do, there's not much else to say about it.

You're one tough girl, Aradia. You sure you're actually younger than me?

Well, maybe. I'm not really sure how sweeps and years compare. But troll society is tough and so was the game. It was pretty much adapt or die.

Well... you adapted well.

[And now it's time to play the 'Watch Yosuke fidgit and pretend he didn't just say something that sounded awkward' game!]
