[John waited quite some time after following his alternate self into the caves. Thirty minutes....an hour....an hour and a half he hadn't come back out. Huh. Even after hearing the scream he was sure John just wanted to be left alone....but he's really actually worried about him.

So.

he does what any good alternate self would do and goes after him, going into the winding crystal caverns.]

John? Are you even in here? Tell me I wasn't seeing things? [Come ooooooon, answer.]

[Yup... he's still in there. Though, it's a good thing tall John decided to come in when he did. Because shorter John was actually just in the process of leaving. There's a shower stall upstairs with his name on it.]

[He wasn't really paying attention to where he was going. With as many times as he's come into these caves, he doesn't really have to. He knows the way out. Liv the Altaria is still with him, flying just behind him almost protectively. And its her, not John, who hears the other John call out to him. She looks up from her master and chirps loudly in response, causing John to snap out of his trance.]

Hm? What is it, girl? What's there?

[He actually....has never been in these caves before. He was really actually being pretty ballsy to go in here looking for John. Waiting at the mouth of a cave for nearly two hours isn't fun okay, and he was slightly ~~read: extremely~~ worried about his alternate self.

He hears the chirp and turns to head where he was hearing it. Was that Liv?

It isn't long before he's met with a face full of fluffy cloud bird.]

Hey Liv. [Yes it is certainly Dad #2, which means Dad #1 was right behind her, riiiight?]

John?

[He most certainly is! And Dad #2 is also getting some face nuzzles from Liv because she loves you too. Since... you are also dad basically, and having two of dad is awesome.]

Oh! [He quickly hitches a smile back on his face, but it's pretty clear that it's forced on his part. He's doing better than he was earlier, thanks to talking with Jade, Dave, and Riku but it'll be a good couple of hours before he'll be back up to his usual upbeat self. Maybe even a whole day, who knows.] Hey dude, what's up?

Well, I saw you walking here this morning and then I heard you scream. But I kind of assumed you mostly wanted to be left alone and I really had nothing of value to offer. But. For what it's worth, I got worried. Kind of. Then I uh, came looking for you.

[It's all said in the confines of his bird daughter's soft wings. She is such an affectionate girl.]

You aren't really fooling me either. I know how we are.

[She really is. Though she's not going to cuddle too long apparently, as she soon moves away to perch on a crystal above the two boys. They need to talk and she's kind of a distraction, isn't she? She's fairly sure she is.]

[The smile slips, leaving John with a flat, almost deadened look.]

Ha... I should have known better than to try that on you, huh? No need to worry though, everything is... well, it's not okay, really. But it's not the end of the world, either so... and hey, some good came out of all this. Looks like you and Rose were right.

[But can you REALLY rub in the "I told you so's" when he's like this?]

[No Liv, please come back. John had almost completely let it slip his mind that he and his alternate self had nearly duked it out over that collar boycott.

Man this was awkward.]

I would say "I told you so", but that would be stupid.

[He steps forward, and goddamn he hasn't done this in a while. At all really. He puts a hand on John's shoulder and squeezes. Comfort in its finest.]

It's not like I don't deserve it.

[John stares at his alternate self's hand, then looks him in the eye and quirks a brow. But not in the questioning way. No.]

[That brow is definitely not just leaving it at "Dude, what are you doing?"]

[Dude, what are you doing this is like the most piss poor attempt he's seen at comforting ever. Dave did better than you dude, Dave. Are you even trying?]

You don't. You were trying to be a good friend and talk us out of doing something stupid and I should have seen that. But I didn't. I was too caught up in being a fucking knuckle head.

[Oh geez...]

[Okay, this is might be even more awkward but whatever he doesn't care. In this situation he would surely want a bit of good comforting and that is what he is here to provide! Or. Try to provide anyway.

Okay.

Here goes nothing.

He releases the grip he has on John's shoulder and pulls him into a full blown tender bro embrace. He kind of mumbles something when they get chest to chest. This was a serious embrace okay.]

We may have been right, but our actions were way out of line.

[There we go, that's more like it!]

[John raises his arms, wrapping them around his alternate self in turn. He doesn't say anything for a few moments, seemingly content to just rest his head against John's shoulder]

I was too so... it's okay. I shouldn't have yelled at you both about it and I was basically a jackass and I'm sorry.

I'm sorry for not listening and yelling back, that was a really dumb thing to do. I just forget we're the same person sometimes and I know we're both pretty stubborn.

[Man they haven't ever done this kind of thing, and John is kind of glad they got to have this private moment together even if that isn't what was first intended.

He doesn't know what he would have done if John had stayed mad at him for a longer time than this.]

Hehe... yeah, I guess that is true, isn't it? We can both be real mules when we want to.

[John gives his taller self a little squeeze before pulling away.]

But it's okay. I forgive you just... maybe next time we should both listen a little more. Instead of just flying off the handle. Deal?

We're such jackasses and for that I don't think I can apologize. We can just kinda be how we are even if it is against each other.

[Man, what a good hug.]

I forgive you too man. Yeah we should totally start thinking shit over.

[He extends a hand to John.]

Shake on it?

[He grabs the other's hand and pulls him back to his chest. How about another hug, he might be okay with those.]

Nah man, but we can do this instead. I think it means more that way. Not that I really know that for sure though.

[In the true spirit of a bro hug, John thumps his alternate self on the back this time.]

Hehe, yeah, it does. [And now a little squeeze for good measure.] It definitely does.
