Yotsuba and...

Setting: Dorm room 1-03 and the dorm floors.
Format: Prose, but I'll match you.
Summary: A very shaken Yotsuba returns the the Tower and tries to find the people she knew so that she can 'warn' them and get some answers as to what happened to her.
Warnings: Yotsuba will be crying here. Seeing a dead father that you love dearly will do that. Information as to what she saw can be found on her profile.

When Yotsuba woke up, she wasn't expecting to be in a bed. Scared, she sat up and tried to think as to where she was, since she had forgotten a little bit, since so much time had passed, and since she had seen so many terrifying things. Remembering, and not bothering to read the the notes she had been given or look in her trunk, she got out of bed and carefully wandered into the hall. Her destroyed world had been terrible..and lonely. She didn't want her Daddy to be like that! She didn't want it at all..so she had to tell everyone so that they could come up with a plan and help him!

But just thinking about it had started to make her cry, and she didn't stop as she rushed about the dorm hallways, crying out, hoping to find someone she knew. Of course, if she bumped into someone else, that would be nice too, but..right now, her mind was going to the people here she knew and loved.

"L-Luci! Dia?! E..Enoch?! Zett! Romeo?! Mr..Mr Edgey?! Rick?! Are you guys here?! Help!"

Of course, to people she hadn't met, she would just look like a scared little kid that had just arrived. To people that knew her though..this would be a bittersweet homecoming of sorts.

Diarmuid is just leaving his room when his enhanced hearing picks up on a small familiar voice calling out for help. At first he thinks he's imaging it. He has to be. Why would the Tower have sent her away only to bring her back so quickly? It is a trick? A different version of the same girl he had cared so much for? Then, the names she is calling for register. They are not the names of people from her home, but people from here.

And among them, his name.

It takes only the blink of an eye for him moving at full speed to make it to her side. When he sees her, tears wet the corners of his his eyes as he kneels down and holds his arms out for a hug.

"Yotsuba..."

Yotsuba just thought that it was another mistake that Zo had made, even if it was bad and super scary. However, when she saw Diarmuid, she stopped running-only to tackle-hug him and speak as she cried.

"Dia! That was super scary and bad and Yotsuba doesn't want that future! How can we help their bo..bodies?! We can't put their souls in them! They're super wrinkly and bloody and they smell bad and they'll die if we do and Yotsuba will be lonely again..I don't wanna be alone!"

While Diarmuid would probably only get a vague idea of what she was talking about, it shouldn't be too hard to piece everything together.

Diarmuid does get the idea and he winces as he thinks about the horrid things she must have seen back on her world. That is part of the reason he had been so upset about her going back. There was no way she would understand what she saw and it probably terrified her not knowing.

His arms tighten around her, "I don't want you to be alone either. No one wants to be that way. It's why we are trying to find a way to fix all of that. I don't have all your answers. I don't even think Enoch has all the answers on this one, but we are trying to find them. We've been making progress. Even in the short time you were gone."

Maybe it is stretching the truth a little since progress with the collar fluid has been so slow, but they are working and small steps forward are infinitely better than nothing at all.

Not knowing how they were going to help the bodies was part of the reason she was so scared, but seeing the bodies like that really did a number on her..as well as being alone. All she had for about a month were the corpses of her Daddy and the neighbors for company, which hadn't done her any good.

However, the promise of progress-even though Yotsuba didn't know that word-sounded hopeful, so she tried to calm down, even if her attempt was poor. She still wept as she spoke.

"What pro..prograss? And we shouldn't be like that! It's really scary..but if Enoch doesn't have the answers, who does?! Luci?"

Like there was any way Diarmuid would recognize her nickname for the Archangel.

"I know we shouldn't. That is why we are trying so very hard to fix it. Unfortunately, terrible things often take a long time to fix because you have to make sure you fix them right," Diarmuid leans back so that he can look Yotsuba in the face, but still keeps his arms around her as if he is afraid she will disappear. "You understand that, don't you? We have to make sure we do everything right the first time so that people don't suffer more than they need to."

"Who is Luci?"

As Diarmuid leaned back to look Yotsuba in the face and spoke, she thought about what he had to say and nodded. However, she didn't stop hugging him either. After all, she had really missed him and everyone else back in her dead world!

"I do. Making mistakes is bad and it hurts other people, so you hafta be careful and not make any mistakes so that you don't hurt anyone! So..the grown-ups are trying to be careful so that they don't hurt anyone and so that Daddy's body is fine, right? And Luci is an Angel! He's Enoch's support and he's super smart and has lots of tricks and he told me a lot of awesome stories, and I read to him when he was sad because of the enchanted souls and he told me how I could help and be a support! Lucifel's a good person!"

"Making mistakes is not always bad because sometimes good things can come out of it, but in this case you are right. The last thing we want to do is make a mistake, because it would hurt those who we are trying to so hard to fix. That is why, while it might be hard to accept the slow progress we are making, at least that will allow us to make sure everything is done right."

That is what Diarmuid hopes anyway.

"If he is a friend of Enoch's I am sure he is a very good person and very talented too. It is good he is teaching how to be a...support, did you say? If a support's job is what it sounds like, it seems to be a good match for you. You are very good at helping keep us all happy and optimistic."

And while Yotsuba still didn't know exactly how they would be able to help the dead bodies back home, it was what she was hoping for too, now that Diarmuid had told her.

"Oh! Okay then! Yotsuba will remember that! But I hope we can make it come out right soon. Daddy's body was really scary and smelly! And he's Enoch's friend and his support! He helped him out before they came here! And he already taught me how I can be a support, and it's good that I can help out, since I'm not a grown-up!"

After all, it seems that the grown-ups were always working on the more difficult projects, and even though she would have loved to help, there was no way any of them would actually let her participate in raids or things like that.

"If you guys are sad, I can hug you, since I'm the best at giving hugs!" And to prove the point, Yotsuba tried to give Diarmuid a big hug, smiling. It seemed that the five-year-old had finally calmed down a little, even though she still didn't know everything that she wanted to know. She would have to be patient and wait for the grown-ups to figure it out.

"And I can draw pictures and make flower crowns and get milk and sing..and just be there, since Roen said that not everyone wants to talk!"

"Don't worry. Even though we need to take our time with some things, we are working as fast as we safely can. We want everyone fixed as soon as possible. Your daddy and the others shouldn't have to be like that any longer than necessary..." That and they have a time limit now, though he has no idea if she knows that and has no intention of telling her if she doesn't.

When she hugs him, Diarmuid gladly accepts it, burying his face in her hair for a moment before speaking again, "Support is a very important role and you are so perfect for it. No only do you love doing all those things, but you are very good at them. I would rather have Yotsuba for support than almost anyone else I can think of. Keep us strong, Little One, and in turn we will make sure everything is fixed just as fast as we can."

"Who is Roen? Is that another one of Enoch's friends?"

And now Diarmuid is referring to her in third-person. xD;

Yotsuba smile grew a little bit as Diarmuid returned the hug and buried his face in his hair, but at the question of Roen, she paused before shaking her head.

"They shouldn't, so Yotsuba's gonna help while you work carefully! And Luci said I give the best hugs, and I wanna help out too, so it's good that I can help you and Luci and Enoch and Rick and everyone else out! Yotsuba will do my best and be patient..but I dunno if Enoch knows Roen. He's a bad liar with super red hair that was gloomy in the meadow and didn't like it when I tried to help! He tried to say that he was a bad person, but he was just lying to make me leave! Hopefully he'll stop lying..but he's a good person!"

If Diarmuid knew Reno, this description might fit a little bit.

Not really? It was just a stylistic thing. Sorry if it was confusing!

Roen? Really, Reno couldn't come up with a better alias than that?

"I do know the person you are talking about, and your instincts are correct. He is a good person. He's a good person who I think is hurting and, perhaps, is even a little scared and not sure how to deal with that," Diarmuid sits back a little so he can look Yotsuba in the face again, "Do you know that feeling? The one where you really want to protect people you care about but are afraid that you might not be able to? In fact, you worry if you might end up hurting them instead of helping them? It's a very grown up emotion so I will understand if you don't know it, but I think that might be why he was so gloomy when he talked to you."

Tower dads understand each other...

Oh, it wasn't confusing. Just a tad amusing on my end. Sorry about that. ^^;

If he could, he really needed to get on it. Aliases like that were fine when one needed to throw off people like Yotsuba..but they weren't good when one was dealing with someone that wasn't gulliable.

While Yotsuba thought about what Diarmuid said, she frowned a little and..nodded her head. While she hadn't ever felt like she would hurt people when she meant to help them-and thought that if she made a mistake, it could be easily corrected-she had felt scared when she was back in her own destroyed world. She wanted to help Daddy and everyone. She didn't want to see them like that, but of course, there was no way she could help everyone or be a support while she was there. All that was there were dead corpses, fear, and lots of questions.

"I do..and it's really scary and bad! But that doesn't mean you should lie..and he can help out a lot here! I couldn't be a support when I was gone, but now I can! Did he go back home too? And how can we help him not feel scared, Dia?"

No worries. Just making sure!

"That's right. It's probably one of the worst feelings you can have," Diarmuid isn't convinced that she does completely understand the feeling, but from her words, she is close enough. "It really makes it easy to want to give up and I think, at that moment, you caught him in one of those times. This place does that to people, as I am sure you are aware. Even the happiest and strongest people can become lost and hopeless sometimes."

Diarmuid pauses here to ruffle her hair, "If you see him, just work on being a good support like we have discussed. Try not to remind him about the lies and how upset he was. I will be talking to him soon, and I will see what I can do to help him. It might take a while, but I am sure as long as we don't give up, we will be able to bring out that good person inside of him."

Alright then!

While it was pretty terrible that both she and Roen had been through terrible things and that he had wanted to give up, Yotsuba smiled a little bit at the hair ruffling and nodded. Since she had decided to be a support for all the good grown-ups, she would do her best to help out Roen too!

"Okay! Yotsuba won't give up either then! And I won't remind him about what happened and I'll try and be a good support! Can you tell Yotsuba what I can do when you talk with him though? I wanna help him too, so he doesn't think he's a bad person anymore!"

Diarmuid is silent for several moments after her question. In truth, he's not sure what to tell her since he has only known Reno a short time. While he has a few guesses about the man from the times they have talked, he could just as easily be wrong about those things. Especially with it comes to the things they don't have in common.

"For now, if you see him, smile at him. Hug him if he will allow it," Diarmuid's pretty sure he won't, but it's worth a try. "And give me some time to talk to him first. I don't know him that well yet and I don't want to tell you to do the wrong thing."

Yotsuba looked a little puzzled as Diarmuid silently pondered. She was never a patient kid, but she did her best to wait while he came up with an answer for her. But, when he did speak up again, she nodded, doing her best to remember all of this.

"Okay! I'll do all of that..but will you let Yotsuba know more once you do talk with him? I wanna know too!"

Diarmuid smiles, glad to see that Yotsuba's time on her dead world--as horrible as it was--hasn't dimmed the girl's enthusiasm when it comes to helping others.

"I promise I will let you know. And who knows, when you see him next he might be in a better mood and more willing to talk to you himself. Wouldn't that be great?"

Well, in the end, Yotsuba was still Yotsuba. Even though she had experienced horrible things and still wanted answers as to how the grown-ups would take care of the dead bodies back home, she still wanted to help out, and since she could help out by being a support and cheering everyone up, that was what she was going to do! Plus, it was fun.

So, returning Diarmuid's smile, Yotsuba pumped a fist into the air enthusiastically as she spoke.

"It would be! It would be super awesome if he didn't try to run away next time! Maybe we can play tag together! Or hide-and-go seek!"

"Maybe! That would be nice, wouldn't it? Everyone deserves a change to have fun and relax sometimes even in a place like this. When I talk to him, I will have to ask him what kinds of games he likes playing..." Though, Diarmuid suspects that Reno's taste in games probably leans more toward pool and cards than hide-and-seek.

"Am I the first person you have talked to, Little One? I know Enoch is going to be very happy to see you. Zett and the rest of your friends as well. We all missed you very much."

While Yotsuba had no idea where Reno's tastes lie, she wouldn't mind playing pool or cards. Even if she would be utterly lousy at them, since she didn't know anything about them.

"It would be! It would be awesome! You'll have to tell Yotsuba what games he likes when you ask him! And you're not the first one! Yotsuba met Zett and Enoch and Luci and Rick and Judas and Romeo and Veronica and Gilles! I'm sorry for making you all worry though! Zo made a mistake and I missed you all a whooole lot!"

"Good, good. I am glad you were able to see them," Diarmuid remembers too well how angry Enoch had been when he had found her tombstone. Seeing her again would bring so much joy and comfort to Enoch's soul--perhaps even more than seeing her again had brought to Diarmuid's--that the last thing he wants to do is delay that meeting. However, since it has already happened, Diarmuid can be selfish a bit longer.

"How about we go and play a game? Or sing a song? Is there something you would like to do?"

If Diarmuid knew what Caster's real name was, one of those names would alarm him a great deal. However, he doesn't know it and so it passes unremarked on.

Yotsuba had no idea how badly her disappearance had shaken Enoch, Zett, Diarmuid, and the others, but she did know that they were all super happy to see her again, even if Enoch did seem a bit sad when she mentioned the bodies.

At the suggestions though, Yotsuba thought for a moment before replying, putting a hand on her stomach.

"I'm hungry. Can we eat something, Dia? Is there yummy curry?"

Considering the bodies were something a child her age should never have seen, Diarmuid can understand far too well why Enoch would be upset to hear her talk about them.

"Curry? I don't know that there will be curry, but I will be glad to carry you down to the kitchen to see," Diarmuid leans forward, inviting her to crawl up onto his back. "Did I tell you I am learning to make cookies?"

Plus, while Yotsuba didn't know it, Enoch had been to his destroyed world and seen the bodies there. For an empathetic person like him, even thinking about those memories was painful.

As Diarmuid spoke and leaned forward, Yotsuba climbed on him and got herself situated so that she was on his shoulders, even if she did kick him in the face once or twice while she got herself situated. The fact that he was learning how to bake cookies was pretty amazing to her. While cake was super yummy and cause for celebration, cookies were tasty too!~

"Really?! Yotsuba didn't know! Can you make cookies now?! Cookies and cake are super yummy though! A luvley red-haired chef made some cake awhile ago, and it was super tasty!"

Diarmuid's smile doesn't fade even with the kicks. He knows they are accidental and with his enhanced resistance, he hardly feels them. Once Yotsuba is settled, Diarmuid reaches back to ruffle her hair once more before standing up.

"Cookies and cakes are very yummy. I am just learning and the flour seems to dislike me, but maybe it will listen to you better. What do you say to making some cookies? They are even yummier when you get to eat them right out of the oven."
