Hammer to Fall

Summary: Fawkes grows tired of being unarmed, and goes to rectify this.

Between the various incidents that have gone on since he's been here, Fawkes has determined that this place, like the Capital Wasteland, seems like it will require a more violent approach - especially with the newer residents - namely, the monsters.

Lacking his weapons from home, the best thing to do in a situation like this is improvise.

Fawkes is currently rooting around the workshop for tools and parts he can use to craft a bludgeon of some sort - one of the tables has broken and warped metal bedframe pieces spread upon it.

...kind of a pity that the majority of these tools are sized for smaller hands than Fawkes', but he'll attempt to make do.

Romeo entered the workshop, he saw the man who looked a bit like a monster but Romeo had seen him before and knew he was nice really. He smiled but didn't say anything as he went to the table where he had hid the things he had been working on. Bringing them out he grabbed a hammer, he was trying to make a knife, unfortunately he had no idea how to do this, so had mainly been bashing metal with a hammer.

It made him feel a little less angry, but it wasn't really working. "Sir?" He asked politely, "Do you know how to make knives?"

Fawkes looked over, a bit curious about the request.

"I believe I could make a crude one. Why do you need a knife?"

"Really?" Romeo looked back at the mess he had made and sighed, "The bad people took Molly, I need to get her back but I don't know any magic and I'm not big or strong so I need a knife. Can you show me how to make one sir?"

[lucidmutant]

"...took her?" His tone grows a bit grim as he steps over to Romeo, and squats down. It's a little tricky to see, but his face is troubled. What he'd discussed with Erik before seems to have unfortunately come to pass sooner than he thought. This kid isn't like the ones in the Wasteland... He seems to be willing to learn, though.

"I shall," he answers, standing back up. "There's a grinding machine on that table," he adds, pointing. The thing's safety parts seem a bit ricket, though - but if things get bad, he can attempt to take over.

"Let me see if I can find you a pair of goggles."

Romeo nodded, "They did, but I am going to get her back." He sounded completely determined, he was still sad and missed Molly a lot but after talking to Psiionic he was calmer, and had a plan.

Sort of. He walked over to the grinding machine and looked at it, "What are goggles sir?" He didn't touch the machine yet, not wanting to break it.

"When you press the metal to the stone, it grinds it down and makes a smooth part. It throws off a lot of sparks, and small pieces, so one should protect their eyes when using it," Fawkes answers, returning to the table with two pairs of goggles in-hand. He lays one in front of Romeo.

"When you're ready, switch the grinder on," he adds, pointing to a switch on the the machine.

"Oh okay sir!" He smiled, it was easier to keep his spirits up when he had something to do. He put the goggles over his eyes and then pressed the switch. The stone started moving.

"What do I do now sir?"

"Take the piece of metal and hold it where the side that you want the blade to be will be pointing down." Fawkes gets the goggles on, though with a little trouble thanks to his large head, but not too much.

"Push the metal against the grinding stone, and it'll sharpen the edge."

Romeo did as he was told pushing the metal against the grinding stone. It made a loud noise and his eyes widened at the sparks. "Am I doing it right sir?"

"Yes - make sure to move it about so you sharpen out the whole of the blade, though. Try and keep it even."

Romeo nodded and continued pushing the metal onto the stone moving it to try and keep it even. It was amazing how it worked, he had never seen anything like it before. It was really really noisy though.

While Romeo continued that, Fawkes stepped back to the shelf he had been searching at before, and retrieved a roll of duct tape. He laid it down near the grinder, then turned to Romeo. "I am unsure of how to craft a proper handle, but if you wrap the handle-area with this, it should make it easier to grip. Not the most elegant solution, but functional."

Romeo continued not looking round to see what Fawkes was doing because he had to concentrate. When he came back he nodded and stopped the machine before wrapping the handle part of the knife with tape. "Is this okay?" He asked holding it awkwardly.

Once Romeo stopped using the grinder, Fawkes reached over to flip it off, and removed his own goggles. He smiled a bit at the boy. "Yes. A job well-done, my friend."

Romeo smiled back and looked at the knife, now he just had to learn how to use it! "Thank you sir! For showing me!" He pulled his goggles off and grinned.
