Summary: Aradia's taking in a little of the tower's version of culture
Warnings: Grim art? But otherwise not much yet.

[Up until now, Aradia hasn't really spent much time perusing the art gallery that appeared when the tower grew a few floors. Today she's decided to rectify that.

And so she wanders aimlessly about the floor, looking at the various artworks on display and lingering in front of those that catch her eye. Probably one of the more morbid ones, but she seems far more fascinated than she does horrified.

Oh, they're...I guess you'd call them creatures. They look after us, we look after them.

But you don't have parents?

[Eleanor seems to have problems grasping that particular bit of information, and she's not sure if it's because of her conditioning, her feelings for her mother or the fact that she wouldn't even be alive if it weren't for her father. For all Rapture distorted all notions of family she could have had, they were still there.]

[She shakes her head]

Not in the way that humans do, at least.

...I wonder if you're better off that way.

[Because if she didn't have parents, she wouldn't have her mother. On the other hand... she would also not have her father, and where would she even be, without her father?]

[She shrugs]

To be able to know that I'd have to have experienced things the human way. And that's not likely to happen.

I suppose you're right. It just seems so... lonely a prospect.

Oh no, it's not so bad. My lusus and I had a lot of fun together and it's not like I couldn't talk to other trolls.

[thebigsister]

I understand, I'm sorry. It's just... my parents made me who I am.

[She shrugs somewhat, letting her arms hang at her sides.]

I don't know who I'd be, without them.

[She nods]

It's only since I've been here that I've really understood how it all works but humans appear to have a far greater sense of family than we do.

Perhaps it's just me, I wouldn't know about the whole of humanity. I just know... I don't know who or what I would be without my Father.

[A small pause.]

Or my Mother.

Well, perhaps. I don't really have much knowledge to go on.

[thebigsister]

[There's suddenly a strange sound, which might, after a moment, be identified as laughter.]

...I think it's very human of me to try and see things that a definitely not human, from a human perspective. I apologize.

[She shakes her head and smiles]

It's natural to try and rationalise things based on what we consider to be normal, even if that's not what the other considers normal.

[thebigsister]

Perhaps. But I have been rude, and I would still like to apologize.

[She tilted her head to the side, arms hanging harmlessly at her sides.]

I'm Eleanor.

Oh, well...okay. You didn't seem rude to me.

I'm Aradia.

[Eleanor bobs her head in acknowledgement.]

Nice to meet you, Aradia. Have you been here long?

A couple of months, I think. I'm still trying to get used to how human time works.

[thebigsister]

Oh, does time flow differently for you? Or do you measure time in a different scale?

[verymuchalive]

We measure it differently. For example, we age in sweeps instead of your human years and I think a sweep is longer than a year.

[thebigsister]

Oh. That ought to be confusing.

[Eleanor shrugs.]

To be honest, I've measured time in day and night all my life, but. This place is the closest thing to actual "days and nights" I've ever experienced. It's almost jarring.

Well it is, a little. But if I couldn't handle that sort of thing I wouldn't be a very good Maid of Time, would I?

[She giggles at that, even as she's the only one of the two who would get that]

Really? How so?

[thebigsister]

[The head tilts in that unnatural angle again.]

Maid of Time?

[But then Eleanor shook her head.]

I was born and raised in Rapture, a city built so deep in the ocean the sunlight didn't really reach us.

[Oh, right. Not everyone knows about the game]

It's a long story and complicated to explain. But basically, I have time powers...and time responsibilities I suppose you could say.

[As Eleanor talks about her home city, Aradia's expression becomes a mixture of wary and excited that she has some frame of reference for this]

Oh, so you're a sea dweller! I didn't realise humans had those.

A seadweller?

[Eleanor seems to think for a moment.]

Well. Yes. I suppose I am, given I am capable of surviving in the ocean floor but...

[Well, she's not sure if she deserves to call herself human.]

[Her head tilts in curiosity]
