[o5] ‸^‸ Fifth Song.
Characters: AU!Link (OoT) (
ocariness), Samus, and (eventually) AU!OoT Zelda, and whoever!!
Setting: 1) Meadow Floor (floor 25) (locked to Samus), 2) Infirmary. Set after this thread.
Format: ACTION PLEASE I cannot prose. At. All.
Summary: Link just got the shit beat out ofher them by AU!OoT Zelda who thought they were an evil jerk. Seriously wounded, she escaped using Farore's Wind. She's later helped by Samus to the infirmary where she doesn't (luckily!!!) die.
Warnings: Uh... lots of blood, BAD injuries (the damage: one arrow lodged in their left eye and skull, a cut under their left eye, full body burns, scrapes, bruises, a not TOO deep stomach wound from a blade, a dislocated shoulder, annnd lots of trauma.), possibly eyeball gore? Angst. Anything else TBA.
[1 - Locked to Samus]
[ When the magic of Farore's Wind had faded, Link found themself on the stairs of the Meadow Floor, where they quickly put the hookshot away on their hip and began limping, holding their shoulder and wincing, slowly, to the floor the Infirmary was on.
The wounds were extensive: the arrow had dug deep into the skin under their left eye and embedded itself in an awkward semi-vertical position with a small lean, somewhat into their skull, from the attempt to dodge it. Din's Fire had given Link burns all along their body. Luckily, none of them were worse than sore, due to Link's generally wearing several layers of clothing. The tunic, however (blue, but not the Zora one), had seen its last: it was charred and barely staying together. It as bloody, as was Link. The stomach had been ripped open where Link had been cut there, too, and was also bleeding. Their shoulder had definitely been at least dislocated upon landing on it, which was just par for the course of the pain they were feeling. On top of that, numerous scrapes and bruises and tears in the Tunic and their pants peppered Link's body; it had been a very, VERY rough fight indeed.
... Unfortunately, despite the Hero of Time's dogged determination, using that spell completely exhausted the last of her energy. There was too much blood lost and too much pain; they could not continue on, not without help. Exhausted, crying, and bleeding heavily, Link collapsed, back down upon reaching a section in the Tower's stairwell where there was a landing. With a single loud CLANK from the metal shield and sword on their back, they fell.
A second, smaller clank could be heard after their arms landed as well, from the gauntlets shortly following.
Still conscious, but only barely, with their remaining eye, they gazed up at the ceiling, wondering if they were going to die a third time. ]
[2 - OPEN]
[ Once they had finally been gotten to the Infirmary, the wounds were quite exstensive, so it would take a long time for Link to heal unless someone had healing magic or a fairy on them, which Link did not at the moment.
Perhaps you've run into Link while they're fixing their wounds, or perhaps you happened to find them after they were bandaged not unlike a mummy, especially around their head, arm in a sling. Either way, the hero is quite out of it, but it's not improbable you might have been told by someone that a certain long-eared blonde was here... ]

yeah I imagine the other half would need to be amputated later--
... I would not mind company. It... can be rather boring here. Besides, I cannot exactly leave for a little while, still.
that'd be so painful.....
Is there anything in particular you'd like to talk about?
amputation in general is, and usually very unsanitary.
I may not be very cheerful company, Arthur... I am sorry. But this has been bothering me ever since the incident occurred...
[ They can't be. ]
... I do not think I am capable. The look of hatred she had when she attacked me, and she had the face of the Princess--but... I cannot accept that it was her. I... it is very unsettling that she said I was a threat. I... cannot imagine ever being a threat to anyone, and yet I find myself wondering if I deserved what she did to me because I 'failed' her test.
She attacked me. I parried the blow instead of blocking it, only to defend myself. I did not harm her, when we fought. I could have, but I refused to hurt an innocent person... still, I wonder. ... Does that make me evil...?
ew gangrene.....
Well, alright, so maybe it didn't take too much imagining. It quite obviously strikes a chord within him for Link to ask him something like that. He purses his lips, furrowing his eyebrows mildly. After a moment, he straightens, just so he can seat himself in the narrow space left beside Link on the mattress.]
...perhaps you're speaking to a biased party, but I do not think someone who saves lives without a single thought to how it will benefit them is evil.
How can someone fault a warrior for responding as a warrior would? You're used to fighting creatures that will hurt you -- you're used to needing your sword or potentially losing your life. It isn't as if you actually attacked her.
[Despite the look on his face that's wavering on personal experience, England also looks very determined in asserting this point.]
What would she have done if you had been the first to strike? Do you think she would have drawn her shield or her sword first? Someone who was willing to attack first and ask questions later-- would she have passed her own test?

... I believe she would have done the same as me, but I cannot be sure, can I? Perhaps--perhaps... she is better than me.
[ Link's face is set in a frown, as they chew their bottom lip slightly, lost deeply in thought. ]
I... she said I was Hyrule's enemy, its biggest threat... she claimed she was... me. That a hero would never lift their blade against anyone else, because what I did was far too cruel for me to be one.
And yet, she said she was Zelda.
[ Link is tired, but it's obvious they're on the verge of upset tears, trying to hold them back and not shake. ]
I... she could... not have been...

And, even if she were -- not that the odds of that are particularly in her favour from where I'm standing -- what does it matter? She is of an entirely different world. There are people here that know you and care about you with good reason. Your Zelda, who would never cross this line. You are our hero.
[He huffs a little.] And frankly, I wouldn't stand for another one.
[1/idk]
And... and they cannot help it. Link swallows, bidding the overly exhausting but far too high emotions away, and stares. ]
[2/idk]
They were already upset and hearing that was... well, it might be crying for a different reason, but Link just--sort of begins to shake as it happens, staring.
One eye might be left, but dammit, they can still cry. ]
[3/3] well this was going to happen eventually she IS like 9
Not quite hysterical, really, just... upset.
The words are choked out between sobs, not quite high-pitched, but kind of off-key, not as low, and Link takes a short breath between each one, attempting to breathe and control it (but it isn't working, really.) ]
Oh, Arthur! I needed... I... needed... to hear that...
[ And now Link merely clings to him, sobbing, unable to really stop. ]
I-I... I tried... to be... the hero everyone... wants... b-but it never... f-feels like... I-I am...!
[ H-hello, girly sobbing. How are you? God, if they were in their right mind and not so emotional, Link might actually kick themself for this stupid display of emotions and opening up to someone. ]
I... d-don't... want to be a-alone... anymore... or h-hated... d-don't change and... leave on me, p... please...!
[ It sounds so CHILDISH, really, but it's true. Everyone Link has ever loved has left or changed or died and they've been made Sages and left and said they're helping them and they've just had ENOUGH of it.
Enough of being tugged around and hating themself and being forced to do things for Goddesses and as a Hero and dammit Link just wants to be with someone</>, anyone.
Unfortunately, England will be bearing the brunt of this emotional breaking. Link is really technically like... nine or ten. They can only take so much, girl or not, it didn't matter. ]
Ar... Arthur, I... I'm... s-sorry... I... let you all d-down...
[ Sniffing. And now its really going, oops. Why, why can't they be stronger? ]
i can't
At first, he freezes up, because it's been so long since anyone has truly confided anything in him. Even longer since someone has done so in such an emotional fashion. But, after a moment, all of his learned behaviour as a guardian kicks in. He wraps his arms around Link in turn despite his normal caginess about physical contact. He can't always trust his words to say what matters. His actions are how he really communicates. And Link needs to know he's there for her, no matter what he says.
He's very careful with how he embraces her, not wanting to agitate anything that the bandages may be hiding. But his hold, if gentle, is confident. He takes time to pick his words carefully. She probably doesn't realise it, but she has struck more than one chord within him with her sorrows. England swallows and purses his lips, gingerly resting his cheek against the top of Link's head before he finally speaks.]
You're not alone. I'm here-- I promise.
[He knows how it feels to be alone and hated. He wouldn't wish it on anyone.]
You haven't let anyone down, least of all me. There's nothing to apologise for. No matter what, you shall remain a hero in my eyes.
i can't either jaksdhfsdg;
If it isn't already extremely obvious, this has been building for way too long. Link kind of just stays there, but isn't holding him as tight now, simply glad for the contact. Being alone is hard.
She just sniffs, trying to contain herself, still somewhat shaky and teary-eyed. It's not fair, she doesn't want this to be her... ]
... He killed the only family I ever had, Ganondorf. The Deku Tree... raised me when my mother died... at the edge of the Forest. She begged him to take me, she was hurt... and I never even saw my own father... I didn't even know... not until recently.
I wonder if this is what it would be like, to have a father...?
[ A pause, and Link feels utterly ridiculous and childish like this, to be honest. ]
... Thank you... I must seem really foolish right now... like some needy little girl.

His breath hitches only minutely when she voices her rhetoric about having a father. In a way, he can't really be sure either. He only ever had a mother -- or as much of a mother as he could have had, being a nation. Even though he's never had a father, though, he's been one-- tried his best to, at least. It was hard when you were full oceans away from most of your charges.
But he's not far away from Link. He's missed being a caretaker. He's not sure if he can truly fill that void in her life, but he'll be there when she needs him.
Vaguely, he even realises what Link has confessed to. He's had his suspicions. Perhaps he knew all along. But, the thing was, he'd never really thought about it beyond first impressions. It never mattered. What mattered was what Link had done to aid him in times of peril, and that didn't change no matter what her sex was.
The words come much more easily once he puts his own emotions aside and thinks only of the wellbeing of the girl in his arms. It's so much easier to articulate his centuries of experience when it's to help someone else.]
You don't seem foolish at all. Everyone has times of need, some of which cannot be confronted alone. I wouldn't consider a hero with no emotions to be much of a hero at all; without fear, strife, and pain, there cannot possibly be bravery or courage.
I don't think less of you for anything you have said or done. And... [Oh, here's where it gets hard. His throat immediately catches what he means to be an expression of his own feelings on the matter. He adjusts his grip a little, pointedly -- he's afraid to hold her too tightly, but there's a note of resolve in the way he shifts.] I...am glad that you have deigned to trust me. It's-- it's a privilege.
no subject
She's. Trying very hard at the moment to swallow the lump in her throat. ]
I... no, it is not... anything huge. I... I trust you. That's... that is, I think that you are a very nice person, Arthur. I... don't see why anyone would not like you.
[ She's going to try to wipe her eye now ahdfdg;. ]
Really, I... am just glad I am not alone right now. I am not sure I could bear it...

Someday, he'll have to tell her about his history. And he'll have to do it personally, since there are no history books in the Tower to aid him. He wonders if that's purposeful. Before he came here, he couldn't remember the last time he'd had so many people -- that weren't his own citizens -- actually enjoy his company and counsel. It was a clean slate.
Maybe that's what they meant by "saving".
He can't bring that up now, though. That's...something for far in the future. Hopefully for a time when he's sure that Link won't leave him when she learns about what he's done.
His words come quietly.] I wouldn't leave you alone when you require someone to be near. I...I know too well what it is like to be alone. It's something I'd like to prevent in other people, if I can help it.
If you ever...find yourself in need again, my ear is always available for the listening.

Even if she knew, she would not leave him. What has happened between them is enough for her to, childishly, stand by anyone's side. Her morals are somewhat black and white due to her age, but there are some things she feels are more important.
Like friends.
It does take her a little while, but she smiles, eventually, though it is small, it is genuine. ]
... You are a good person, Arthur. And... a friend. I hope, perhaps, that we might be able to help one another get through being here. It is far from easy.
[ Of course, she has no idea the irony of her statement in his eyes; she is merely saying what she believes. She will likely stick to it, too, when the time comes that he should tell her. ]
You should know that the reverse will be true as well, of course. I... may not know very much about the world, I admit, and I am not... very good with words. But you will always have my sword if you should require it, and my company, if you do not mind it. I will not forget this.
