Summary: It's training time. Ken's spear still isn't fixed, but he's got his Evoker. Time to hunt Shadows.
Warnings: Possibly dark subjects. Also shooting yourself in the head. :|b


[He's been still for too long. Going out at night, hunting Shadows… he's missed it. So quietly, as to not wake anyone, he heads out of his room and down the stairs, looking for something to fight.]

[And he finds it. Blobs of Shadow, there in a corner and over there, too - and the quick movement of a Shadow with too much speed. Lifting his Evoker to his forehead, he fires, summoning Nemesis, dispatching a few with Hama and frying a few more with Zionga.]

[Once he finishes with that shadow - he can't afford to take his eyes off of it at the moment - he looks up at Xehanort.]

You can use magic without a Persona?

[It's strange, and he's not used to it... then again there are a lot of people here from different worlds.]

I don't know if that brings luck or darkness

We don't have those where I'm from. You'll have to indulge me.

[He can feel the importance the word carries to Ken in how he pronounces it. It's linked to the ability to use magic... much like for many people, their ability to use magic was only unlocked upon receiving an elemental weapon or a keyblade. Very interesting. It's a shame there's not more time to talk right now.]

Only some people can use it. You have to have the potential, first. And you use one of these.

[He holds up his Evoker.]

A Persona is like... a manifestation of your personality. It's a mask you wear to face the world. People who summon them use them to fight Shadows. There's a lot of different kinds of Persona, but most people can only use one. I do know of a few people who can use multiple ones, though.

[Unlike in most cases, where interest is feigned, this is genuine. His drive to learn and know as much as possible has him eating this up, even if it's the briefest of explanations.]

And how does one know if they possess such a thing?

[A thundaga wave to take out a group of monsters approaching. He wants Ken to keep talking.]

Where I'm from, there's an extra hour in the day. If you're awake during it and not sleeping in a coffin, which is what most people get transformed into, you at least have the potential for a Persona.

[He turns and has Nemesis slash at another Shadow.]

And how is this cultivated? Trained? Are there Orders of those who can use Personae?

[Well, if it's a summoned creature, perhaps two can play at this game. Takes a moment to concentrate, keeping a tight rein on the level of darkness he exudes - it wouldn't do to have those pesky lightbearers rushing in on alert mode after all - and he reaches out with his heart to draw the darkness forth, summoning one of these to come play a bit.]

We end up gathering together, usually. We train by defeating Shadows. Our group is free - the other one is the pawn of a corporation.

[He steps back as the Neoshadow is summoned, raising his Evoker again.]

You subconsciously reach for each other? Or does someone come looking for you?

[He nods, pointing at a group of shadows, sending the Neo into the fray.]

A corporation? How would they profit from something like that? Do they buy the morals of those individuals? ... what are the directions of your groups?

Some of us can detect others with the ability.

[He shakes his head at the latter questions.]

They experimented on some people to force the ability. And as for the group they control, I'm pretty sure they're not really aware of what the corporation's done. We're trying to stop them from ending the world - they're bringing it about without meaning to.

Ah, I see. How does it work? What do you feel from them... if you are capable of such a thing, that is.

How does one bring about the end of the world without meaning to?

[miseris_socios]

I'm not. Someone else in my team is, though.

They're killing the big shadows... and if they kill all of them they're going to wake up something terrible. I'm not sure what it is, but that's what the others told me - and I believe them.

A doomsday corporation. Strange, for business. How do they profit from that? A very strange world, indeed...

[Throws another Blizzaga, letting the Neo attack and shatter the frozen creatures.]

These shadows you speak of... what are they?

[miseris_socios]

That's not all they do - they have a lot of property in the area, including the high school. As to how they make most of their money, I don't know.

And the Shadows I'm talking about are born from humans. I think they're from negative human emotions, but one of the others would know more about that than I would.

[capax_infiniti]

[So they're more like Unversed, then. Interesting.]

So you can vanquish these ones [indicates the shadows they're fighting] but not the larger ones?

[miseris_socios]

Yeah. Beating the big ones is bad news. Not to mention they're stronger each month - eventually they're going to get strong enough that they're going to kill you or worse.

[capax_infiniti]

[He considers all of this for a moment, watching the dark creatures fighting each other.]

It's been quite fascinating to learn of. Your group defends your world in this fashion?

[miseris_socios]

Yeah. We do what we can, anyway. We do have other business that we take care of - I'm not usually allowed on those missions, though.

[He might be a tiny bit bitter about that. He's not a child, even if he looks like it.]

How unfortunate. If one is given responsibility, one should never be excluded from exercising it...

Well, they usually involve selling pills or contracted hits. They think they're trying to protect me from it, but I know what's going on anyway.

[capax_infiniti]

Such things pale in comparison to the matters of life and death you have been subjected to. It is an unkindness on their part to try to shelter you from such immaterial things.

[miseris_socios]

Yeah, I know. It doesn't really matter here, though - we'll worry about it once we get out.

[capax_infiniti]

At least for now, there is little reason to put such blinders on your eyes. Here we are all equals in knowledge and footing.

[An almost genuine smile.]

Pretty much. Anything we can figure out about how this place works would be an advantage we might be able to use.

Oh, yes... would I be able to consider you one to speak with in the case that you learn something that I have not?
