Summary: In which Eridan pretends he knows how to sew. Spoilers, he doesn't. Backdated to before the Labyrinth event!

[It's really not that hard, he figures, to use his torn jacket as a pattern and make a new one with some scraps of red fabric lying around. It's just. Cutting fabric and sewing it together. How hard can it be?

Apparently, very hard and not really a project for the uninitiated.

He's left the whole mess on a workbench for now, focusing on patching up his other pair of pants. That, at least, he's relatively used to. It's not the neatest of stitch-work, but at least it'll hold.

At least, he thinks with grim amusement, he has two hands now, to do this. Otherwise it'd be well and truly hopeless.]

...if you were to have finished putting all of this together, you'd have had one sleeve longer than the other.

[And that's just for starters. But dissecting everything wrong with it would waste precious time.]

If I could take a look at the original, I might be able to come up with a better pattern.

[He nods.]

[He's not stupid! Just... really not good at this.]

[She really wants to know how he managed it, in that case. Regardless, she starts looking around.]

In that case- I will need a tape measure myself, and if there is more of the fabric you were planning to use, I will need that as well.

[chronomancer]

Hang on.

[He nods and... off he goes, to look for the supplies. He's back soon enough, placing them carefully on the workbench.]

Is this enough?

[She looks at the fabric he sets down and then picks it up carefully, measuring with careful pulls of her fingers.]

...it should be- though I might have to adjust for a few things.

[chronomancer]

Okay.

[Eridan hovers for a moment, before sitting down and watching her work. That's how you learn, right? Being quiet and paying attention?]

[Maybe in most other things- but sewing is a little more hands-on than that. Chidori pauses in working with the fabric to peer at him, eyes narrowing slightly.]

...I can take a guess, but I will need your measurements before I begin working on the pattern properly.

[chronomancer]

Oh.

[Pause.]

Oh. Yeah. I'll... go look for some measuring tape. Hang on.

[In the meanwhile, she'll be examining the remains of that jacket to see just how. That's even supposed to... work...]

[He will go off do that and let you figure out how his jacket of sweet awesomeness works. It's got +50 cool douchebaggery. The measuring tape takes considerably longer to locate, for some reason, but he eventually returns with it, offering it to her.]

[She takes it and stands, turning to face him and pursing her lips thoughtfully.]

Stand up straight, arms out... and try not to move.

[chronomancer]

...okay.

[He does as told, only after a moment of hesitation. Hopefully, she'll be quick about this? Maybe? Oh god, he hopes so.]

[Quick? And mess up? No sir, not this girl. Chidori takes her time measuring and jotting the numbers down in a corner of a page of her sketchbook, careful and precise.

Honestly, it's not like she's going to take forever though.]

...there. I should be able to manage it now.

[chronomancer]

[He rolls his shoulders once she's done, a bit glad to be able to move, and instead peers at her curiously.]

Can you tell what I messed up before?

I am... not quite sure.

[Which says a lot for how you managed to mess up if Chidori can't figure it out.]

But I can manage this, with enough time.

[And between experiments, all she has is time.]

[Whoops? Eridan nods.]

[He offers a small, though sincere smile.]

[Chidori doesn't smile back, if only because the things that actually do make her smile are few and far between. Instead she just nods, and then scoots over a little on the bench, tilting her head at it meaningfully.]
