Nightmares

Summary: Karkat's finally woken up from his hellish little nightmare.
Warning: Talk of torture, and probably really gross teenagers

[Karkat woke with a start, drenched in sweat and glued to his bed by fear. He didn't bother to sit up, unsure if another nightmare would start once he actually started to look around the room. What he did do was allow his hand to move up to his neck. No sleep paralysis. That wasn't a good sign.

His collar was there, but the chain that had been holding him in his nightmare was not. His hands were free. Maybe he was ok after all. He's still not quite ready to test the theory, so don't mind Karkat as he sits on his bed and shakes nervously for a good long while. At least his roommates weren't there to witness the pathetic display.

Eventually, Karkat does sit up, only to spot how pale he is in the mirror across from him. He notices a deck of cards stashed under an eightball on the nightstand next to him and sighs softly. He was awake...for real.

So why didn't he feel any better?]

[He clarifies, without meeting her eyes.]

[He closes that thought by pressing his lips to her's, obviously fairly relieved by that answer. Whoops, talk about pathetic.]

[She kisses him back, of course, but only briefly.]

Tell me why you asked!

Because I had a shitty thought, that's all.

[He's ok with that. He just needed a moment.]

[scalemate]

[She laughs, poking at his cheek.]

God, you are so weird.

[caliginous]

[Karkat rolls his eyes, but the corner of his mouth quirks just slightly with the hint of a smirk, because he can't just smile like a normal person.]

I'll take that.

[scalemate]

[God he's so lame.]

Who said it was a compliment?

[caliginous]

Not I. You'd never actually compliment me.

[scalemate]

Of course not! And you'd never actually compliment me.

[caliginous]

Maybe if you weren't so needy.

[He reaches up to mess with her hair. Artfully. He's obviously taking care the way he's trying to fix that nest on her head.]

[scalemate]

[There's really no way he can mess up her hair at this point, so she doesn't try to fight him off.]

I'm needy?

[caliginous]

S'what I said.

[He's having trouble keeping a straight face, but he manages, and busies himself with...untangling...her hair.]

[GOOD LUCK IT IS A TOTAL RAT'S NEST.]

I am pretty sure you're way needier than I am!

[He's working on it.]

You know what's needy? Your hair.

Should I put five gallons of gel in it every day like you do?

[He gives her a Look.]

You're past the point of no return. We'll be here for hours.

Oh, no! How terrible! Whatever will you do?

[Slowly. But he's making this happen.]

Why do you care so much, anyway?

Because its a sewerbeast's nest.

Okay! If you fix mine, I get to fix yours.

Mine doesn't need to be fixed. Your's is a tangled, knotted mess. Not even a homeless squawkbeast would want that nest.
