ITP: Nightwatch

Summary: Minami is organizing a Night Watch for the tower.

Minami was nervous after making that post. A Night Watch? Really? True she'd led SEES, but Mitsuru had helped her with that and Minami had no idea what, exactly, what she was doing. She knew it was best to try to do this by ear. After all, patrolling the tower would be no different than patrolling Tartarus, right? The only difference was how many groups would be going through and she'd only be organizing the groups and where they go.

So she'd made signs, put them up by the elevators, and waited for dinnertime that evening to see who would be interested.

"Well, yeah, but it's not often you hear of someone Japanese being in the military that young. At least where I'm fro--"

That's when it occurred to her and she looked to the ceiling, her finger resting on her lip as she thought about it.

"Do they even have Japan where you're from?"

Suzaku was silent a moment before he nodded, he was glad that she came from a world that had a Japan, he had heard of a few of them. Like the worlds both Minato's were from.

"We do," he explained, "But it was invaded eight years ago by the Holy Empire of Britannia and renamed Area 11."

Well, that explained why he was in the military so young. If his world was at war of some kind it made sense. It sucked, but it made sense. Part of her debated asking about it. On the one hand, it could be a sore subject. On the other, maybe he'd like to talk about it? She wasn't sure, so she soldiered on anyway.

"What's it like? Er, you don't have to explain if you don't want to. I'm just curious and can drop the subject if you want."

It was something Suzaku hadn't really spoken about, since coming to the tower, mainly because there had been other things to think about but also because he didn't know how to. It wasn't anything he had ever had to speak about, it effected his whole world, everyone knew and so it wasn't something he had had to discuss.

"There are lots of terrorists... who think they are fighting to free Japan but really... they are just killing people... But things were getting better, my... friend," It was also complicated knowing what to call Lelouch since in the last couple of years they had been enemies more often than not.

"He took over Britannia, we were working on making things better," he shrugged, "I guess it doesn't matter anymore." If the worlds were truly gone... Or if they weren't and he had left Lelouch... Or if the Lelouch here was his Lelouch even if he claimed Suzaku had been there until the end...

"It still matters," Minami said, "I doubt what they say is true. I mean, they can't exactly prove it's true and with how we get messed with around here, we don't know if the things they show us are illusions or not. I really wouldn't put it past people here to do that."

"And anyway, it matters to you, right? That's what should count the most, in the end."

He nodded, he didn't know if it were true either but that didn't change the fact that Lelouch was here... "I guess..." Though either way he had failed.

"What is Japan like where you come from?" A free Japan, he hadn't seen much of Japan as a child, as he had remained in the Kururugi shrine for the most part, his existence had been a secret so he couldn't be used against his father. By the time he had traveled...

"Uhh.... normal? There's a lot of people and big cities and high school and stuff." And shadows and the like during the Dark Hour but that was neither here nor there.

Minami couldn't picture Japan any other way and it wasn't common for kids her age to be unsure about the political situation beyond "things are tenuous worldwide."

"Great Britain never really took an interest in Japan or Empire recently like Britannia did, as far as I know? They're pretty much secluded to their little island in Europe."

Normal really was relative, but big cities, lots of people and high school sounded similar to his own world, just without the war.

"Oh..." Suzaku blinked and shook his head, "Britannia is not Great Britain, nor is it in Europe." He thought for a moment, remembering his history lessons at Ashford, "The royal family came from there though, hundreds of years ago when France invaded their island. Britannia is a very large country."

"Where is it then?" she asked, honestly curious now. If Britainnia wasn't in Europe then where could it be? Australia? Most badass continent in the world, baby.

Suzaku gestured to the notepad and pen she was holding, "I could draw a map if you wish, it is hard to explain without knowing if your world follows the same geography as mine."

She flips to a clean page and hands it and the pen to him.

"Sure, no problem. This is actually pretty interesting to me!"

Suzaku drew a simple map of his world before pointing out Britania. "This is the Holy Empire of Britannia, as you can see it is a long way from Great Britain." He hoped she lived in a world with at least similar geography, though that seemed likely as she came from Japan and had a place called Great Britain in her world.

ooc: In case you don't know Code Geass; Britannia is the landmass of the USA

(ooc: I know the basics of the series. Gave it a try, but it wasn't my cup of tea for whatever reason.)

That said, Minami has to point out the obvious.

"It's in America?"

Suzaku blinked, "America?" He asked, because Britannia was in Britannia, every country around it was part of the Holy Empire of Britannia and the Empire spread out further.
