DISTURBING! Spiders Shouldn't Be That Big!

Characters: Lina and Spidermom in one thread, otherwise totally open.
Setting: Random hall on the 18th.
Format: Prose to start, will follow if you prefer action.
Summary: Lina's just wandering around and grousing, and will encounter Vriska's lusus on the loose. However, I'm also open to other threads happening here before or after her run-in with Spidermom.
Warnings: BIG-ASS SPIDER.

Before Spidermom:

This tower was nothing but stress.

The labyrinth. The punishment for dying there. Recovering from that. Sayaka turning into a monster. Confronting Sayaka over that. And on top of all that, the only thing to eat was more of those lousy food bars. Eugh. Lina's out for a walk to try and work some of this stress off - she'd go cut loose with magic, but doesn't wanna risk accidentally setting off the people here to cut her off yet again. That, and while the nutrition bars do their job, for someone like Lina, it's just not enough. And eating enough of those things to quell her hunger appropriately just does not sound appealing in the least.

A sound catches her attention down the hall. Sounds like she's coming up on somebody. Or something...

After Spidermom:
Hey, you there, person. Hopefully you're watching where you're going, because there is a short redheaded girl running full-tilt toward you with a rather panicked look on her face.

"GET OUTTA THE WAY!"

The shadow of a spider appears along the floor first, quickly followed by the towering form of a white goliath of a spider. She takes up a large section of the hallway with sheer girth. Once Lina's in sight, she scuttles forward quickly once she's identified her as prey. Better think quick on your feet, Lina!

This was absolutely ridiculous! Heinous! Awful and simply disrespectful! Who kidnapped sleeping innocents, collared them and then, then had the gall to claim the world was destroyed?

Monsters, that's who!

Only Monsters would pull so tasteless a joke and take it even further by re-clothing their victims. The shriek she had emitted upon waking had reverberated through the second floor, though any offended parties were ignored -- not intentionally, though, Filia was just too blinded by rage to notice.

She stomps through the tower, hollering for the one Monster she wished she never knew. It's by chance that she notices a familiar head of red.

"Miss Lina!" she cries out, oblivious to the ginormous spider scuttling their way. "Oh, I'm so glad to see you! This is Xellos' doing, isn't it, that dirty, loathsome--"

Nevermind that she had just been calling for him to get an explanation.

It is!

Well. This day just got a lot more stressful. There's some lunatic yelling about some 'Xellos' guy, and...yelling out to her?

Lina looks back for a moment, confused by Filia, then turns back around for just a moment--

Spider. Spider. BIG SPIDER.

Big spider coming after her and it does not look happy. CRAP. Lina stumbles backwards, recovering into a backwards retreat - it's not fast enough to last against the big beast's speed, but hopefully long enough to cast something to distract it. "I dunno who you are, but we got a bigger problem than some dirty guy!"

She draws a hand back, and swings it forward, tossing an explosive ball of fire at the arachnid. "FIREBAAAAAAAAALL!"

[fabricates]

The spider recoils and withdraws for a moment, shaking off the stun of the unexpected attack. Used to having her food handed to her injured, she's not presently accustomed to fighting for her food. The attack simply appears to enrage her and she darts forward again, a front leg stabbing outward to attempt to spear one of the girls. She doesn't have a preference really, all these humans seem to taste the same and she's hungry.

" 'Don't know who'--" she starts, but upon following Lina's gaze, ends the question with an undignified shriek.

She lets out another one when Lina's Fireball fails to achieve its goal.

"Oh, you've made it angrier!" she cries, not having yet made the choice to try to be useful.

Well, she might not have done much, but at least she could actually cast.

Damn it...! "Move your butt outta here or DO SOMETHING! BOM DI WIND!" That gust of air is aimed for Filia, and Lina uses the kickback from it to move backwards, and to avoid that incoming leg.

[fabricates]

The dodge doesn't deter spidermom for long. She's already rushing forward again to try snatching one of them up with her pedipalps, her fangs extended in the event she's able to catch one of them and sink in.

[aurous]

The gurgle of noise coming from Filia is unintelligible, but the wind spell does the trick -- Filia is propelled right under spidermom's belly.

Oh shi-

Letting out a horrified cry, the golden dragon lets loose a stream of laser breath right on the underside of spidermom.

Lina, you are so getting a talking to when this is over.

Do you want to survive, Filia, or do you want to be spider food?

Lina keeps moving backwards, and meets that pedipalp with a nice burst of lightning - "DIGGER BOLT!" This may have not been the wisest thing to do, depending on if Filia's actually touching the oversized arachnid, but desperate times and desperate measures and all that...

Jin sure did recognize that voice-- especially when it was yelling.

And when he turned around, he sure did recognize that flurry of orange hair, and he didn't do much more than look at her with a disparaging glance and a quirk of an eyebrow. "What the hell are you doing?"

Oh great, it's Grumpy McHeadslaps.

Lina slides to a stop, and takes a moment to catch a breather. "Running away from a giant spider!"

Hey man, he's not calling you Spazzy McLoudmouth.

"Giant spider?" That got a quirk of an eyebrow. "Why the hell are you running away from a giant spider?"

[dragonspooker]

Yet. Yet.

"Because, my magic did a fat lot of nothing against it!" Man, that sucks to admit. "So I sealed a big section of the wall in ice. Dunno how long it'll hold, though."

Give him enough reason to and he probably will, so.

At the news of her magic not working, that got a peer over the top of his glasses. Jin knew shit all about her magic, but he at least knew what it was capable of. "Did ya try freezing the actual spider? that'd at least immobilize it."

[dragonspooker]

"I..."

Lina pauses, and a sudden sheepish look comes across her face. "...nnnno, but given the effects that the other stuff had, it probably wouldn't have done much good."

Have a nice deadpan look. Jin may not have been a first class strategist, but come on.

"Never know until ya try, right?" He crossed his arms. "Besides, you stopped it somehow, and it's better than running around looking like an idiot."

[dragonspooker]

Lina folds her arms and scowls. "It seemed like a good idea at the time, since it was shrugging off everything else I threw at it!"

Wait, was that a compliment in there?

It was just another day - assuming one's days start with tiny energetic and arguably cute redheads running towards them at full bore.

Yosuke is beginning to find that too many of his days are including this to be comfortable. In an instant his headphones are around his neck, and there's a look of concern on his face as he tries to step to the side and not get bowled over.

"Lina? The hell's going on?"

Lina will keep going, but slow down a bit so she doesn't just leave Yosuke hanging with no info.

"GIANT WHITE SPIDER! RESISTANT TO MAGIC! LEFT IT BEHIND A BIG WALL OF ICE, DUNNO HOW LONG IT'LL HOLD IT!"

[princeofjunes]

Yosuke's expression goes from surprise to shock to horror in only a few moments. And just like that he's running right behind Lina, not eager to take his chances with a giant magic resistant spider. How far or where they're running to? Who knows! But he'll stick with her until they get there because SWEET MERCIFUL CRAP A GIANT SPIDER!

"AAAAAAH!"

[dragonspooker]

...he's following, and screaming. Not quite the reaction she expected.

"...y'know, if I wasn't running from it myself, I'd be giving you some grief for this."

[princeofjunes]

It's only the sensible reaction, and he tells her as such.

"Hey, I'm pretty sure you're as powerful if not stronger than me, and you're running! I'm doing the smart thing!"

[dragonspooker]

"...okay, that's a valid point! Let's just find the stairs and get a few floors away from it at least!"

Even when faced with a situation like this, always take the opportunity to fluff your ego.

[princeofjunes]

"You're the boss!"

Because when it comes to staying alive, his ego can gladly take a back seat. And hey look, stairs! Their favorite!

Well, she finally gets some respect, and it comes with running from an oversized bug...

Ah well, beggars can't be choosers!

After getting a few floors higher, Lina stops and leans on the wall, panting. "...there...maybe, maybe that'll be far enough for now."
