Untrue, in fact; for example, my team and I spent most of our nights awake and active, while we slept primarily when the sun was up and the early morning.

[Unfortunately he probably wasn't going to explain much of his words to Romeo unless he up and asked. But at least he was more docile enough to actually explain things in this state.]

When there is no solid measurement or approximation of the passage of time, it is true we simply sleep when needed. Perhaps my approximation is simply skewed due to the lack of rest.

Why did we spend most of our nights awake? Or why did I not get much rest.

If the prior, it is because the nighttime was the only time we could truly survive. [The Dark Hour was really the only place for them.] There was no place for us in regular society. If the latter, then that is simply a matter of not having time.

Why could you only survive at night? What was wrong with regular society? [Romeo tilted his head as best he could, curious.]

[Romeo was lucky he didn't have much in the way of preferences anymore, or else this info dump would've been hard to get.]

In our world, there is a power called "Persona"-- usable only during a hidden time called the Dark Hour, where normal people slept and those with the Potential could roam free. The power of Persona was forced upon us when we were very young, and it was the only place we could live up to our full existence. The only way we could support ourselves was partaking in the less than savory activities of the underworld of society-- it's much easier to run these kinds of operations at night.

[Romeo blinked at the information, a power called Persona? Like magic? And a hidden time when normal people slept.] They shouldn't have forced it on you, that was mean of them!

[He frowned though, underworld was a word he had heard a couple of times; to describe the world that men like Luini lived in...] What activities?

No doubt if they were held to the normal standards of experimental conduct in society, they would have been denounced as inhumane. But as it stands they only way we were freed was by running away. Such is life.

[Yeeeaah he doesn't seem that bothered about it at the moment.]

The illegal kind. Assassination, theft, arson. [Though that last one was mostly him.] Things of that nature.

[Romeo nodded, he understood that. Running away was never a good thing to do but sometimes it was the only option because things were so bad.

He frowned at the illegal activities though. Theft was bad and he didn't know what the others meant] What's assassination? And arson?

Assassination is the act of deliberately murdering someone under contract from another. An assassin is typically a hired hand; we didn't have any conflicts with the victims, we were simply paid to kill them. Arson is deliberately setting fire to property illegally with the intention to harm or destroy. Think of it as a more specific form of vandalism.

[Romeo's face paled as Jin spoke, murdering people was really really bad. Especially if you did it for money. He frowned deeper at the description of arson, remembering his families fields.] Why do you set things on fire?

[He had shuffled back a bit, even though he was in the cage and pointed his antlers at Jin.] They're really bad things to do mister Jin! Really really bad!

[Sorry Romeo, your scolding was leaving him compleeeetely unfazed.] To cover up evidence, to destroy monsters, sometimes just for fun. [He recalled a good handful of acts with no rhyme or reason when he was first developing his explosives recipe.

He eked out the slightest of shrugs as Romeo shuffled around.]

Everyone who's born will die one day; the only difference is at what time. Our hits were restricted only to people that deserved them. "Bad people," as you'd say. But in the end, it didn't really matter if they were bad or not.

Monsters? Like the ones here? [Romeo thought that wasn't too bad, since monsters would try and kill everyone but he frowned at the fun part. Setting things on fire wasn't fun, not if it destroyed things.][Though if it were mister Jason... Romeo frowned again] You shouldn't have done that

In a way. They were called Shadows. Our reasons for fighting them weren't anything like normal "heroes" though. We were simply defending ourselves.

It's not as if I can go back and change what I did, though. And I can't say that I would care to change my actions even if I did have the chance.

Well you should still defend yourself, it's important! Mister Psi says you got to keep yourself safe so you can help others!

[He concentrates on that, rather than the fact Jin had hurt other people. He didn't want Jin to be a bad person.]

I don't use my "powers" to help others.

Simply put, I don't care to. I am devoid of the typical sense of offense and justice when it comes to the rest of humanity.

Why?

Because it is important to care about other people. We all have to look after each other because it is the good thing to do. And we have to be good people especially when there are really bad people trying to hurt us. And anyways truly strong people don't hurt others, really strong people always have the strength to be kind to other people!

People don't care about random strangers on the street, or unfortunate children that they've never met before. People care first and foremost about themselves, and secondly only those that are closely related and important to them. If that were so, there wouldn't be bad people that would hurt innocents; right?

I care about people I've never met before! So should others! You shouldn't just care about yourself that's really selfish, bad people don't care and hurt others but good people should care about everyone! [Should do, but even Romeo knew that wasn't always true.]

But I know it's different for adults, they don't really care about kids and they don't always care about each other either.

Hit the nail on the head right there, kid. Most adults don't really care one way or another. If I did, I would've been dead on the streets by now. If it's not a matter of the human condition, ten think of it as a matter of practicality.

[Romeo thought about this for a long time before he finally nodded looking sad.] So that's why mister Jason doesn't care what happens to us, and why you don't care because you're an adult too...

I hope I don't become like that because I like caring about people and so I'd like to be a kid forever and ever even if it means adults wont listen to me, if it means I can still care about everyone!

Negative; although I don't have any memories of my exact age, at max, I'm only 17. Legal adulthood isn't until 18, at the earliest, and it varies from country to country.

I have no doubt there are some adults that care for anyone and everyone, but they're few and far between, and doubtfully get very far.
