[o2] ♪ I once ran away from the God of fear;
Characters: Suicide Boy
fractus_animus and
towerofanimus!
Setting: The dorms (room 1-14), or the halls leading to them, around early afternoonish.
Format: [ Action, if you please! ]
Summary: Minato's MP3 player is running out of energy... and he is running out of ways to cope with all of the power outages and the voices. So he leaves his room, in search of a distraction, unaware.
Warnings: None as of yet, but there is the possibility of imagery of him shooting himself in the head, and I guess some bad language...?
[ Ever since the power outage had started and he'd been in the Library floor to see that broadcast... Minato had felt unsettled. Thanatos sat, whispering in the back of his mind.
People were dying. ... He could only save so many of them, though he desperately wanted to try, many he'd come to find, he was too late for. Worse, still, was his Personas (Death, Death and Death and Death, speaking to him this place is not right, he could feel it, THEY could feel it) always telling him ever since the power had went out about the Shadow-like creatures around him... but they weren't Shadows, were they? Though Shadows had ways or luring people out of their coffins during the Dark Hour by calling them, just like this.
Unfortunately, though Minato knew this too well... the voice of his teammates had left him in something of an awful state. Normally quite willing to talk (if bothered, anyway), Minato had shut himself away in the room he shared in the dorm with Karkat, Prussia, and Dave. He simply... could not bear to hear them, because if they WERE dead... then he had left them behind.
'You promised you would never leave us behind, but you did--and now you won't even talk to us?' Ken's voice.
'Heh. Looks like all your preachy bullshit was just that in the end, huh, Minato? Takaya was right. Why don't you face us, you son of a bitch?' Jin.
'You left me with them to get attached... to be in pain. Pain I never asked for. Pain I didn't want. You made us all a promise and you've broken it... come back.' Chidori.
And, he could have sworn he heard a dog barking. It was slowly driving him mad and his MP3 player was... running dangerously low, due to the lack of working power. He tried to focus on his music, to drown out both his Personas (Samael, a hiss in the back of his mind, Thanatos a struggling roar of warning, sensing so much DEATH--) and the voices of his team... but it was the last one that finally made him get up and leave.
'Onii-chan... why...? Why did you leave me behind? Come back... come here... please...' ]
... I can't. I'm sorry...
[ He grabbed his sword from off his bed, his pistol, some ammunition, and his Evoker. Taking both in hand, putting the pistol away and his Evoker and getting a flashlight he'd gotten earlier, Minato headed out and down the hallway, not aware or caring who heard him then or who didn't.
ANYTHING was better than sitting there hoping they'd shut up. ]

When she left her dorm that night to, essentially, patrol, despite it not being the best idea, she honestly hadn't expected to run into Minato. She had her own music running, an upbeat JPop number about achieving dreams playing in her earbuds only as loud as she could without it wearing down her battery. It was enough to turn the cries of her team, the whispers of her many persona, into whispers in the back of her mind. Something she could only hear if she stopped and listened to it.
But then, she ran into Minato in the hallway a floor below their dorms, and, well, she couldn't help the old stiffening of her back as she stood straighter, more defiant, of getting on guard. She didn't mean to, but after all the history they had back home? Brother or not, whether he knew or not, it's hard to just let go of the awful things he's said and done to her and her own. She can't stand by that.]
Hey.
[Yet she still talks to him. Get the girl either some common sense or have her figure out what to do with herself over this.]
no subject
How could he know? As far as he'd been aware, she was dead. This was not improving his mood much. ]
Still alive, huh?
[ For what little it counted. ]
no subject
[Plus, well, sheer luck meant she has yet to run into a fight. She hasn't even needed to summon her persona once while here. It's just good luck on her part.
She stands straighter, turning down her music to concentrate better on his voice. Maybe it'll stop the one she hears--so young, so very young--whispering in the back of her mind if she does? Who knows.]
no subject
Particularly... it's hearing Takaya that's getting to him. Taunting, cocky bastard. ]
You are?
[ A smirk. Distracting himself with her was far easier than listening to all of them. ]
Maybe you should prove it.
no subject
[Seriously, even if they had been raised siblings, she's sure that smirk would piss her off. It's just so condescending.
And now those voices are doing a neat trick. She hears him, as a child, echoing behind her. Why can she hear him when he's right in front of her? Because it hasn't really sunk in this person: this cold, arrogant, jerk, is the sweet little boy she had known and remembered?
Either way, whether she had help or not, she's managed to survive this long fighting shadows and in the tower. She might not be armed, currently, but she knows what she's doing. Or so she'd like to believe.]
no subject
That was right. ... Putting her in her place, didn't that ease the pain of the little girl he kept hearing? This girl she looked so much like. He hated her for that. Hated her for it. ]
... No team to protect you here, though, is there, brat? As strong as you are, I think we both know you're not going to last on your own.
Hell, I wouldn't know whether to be amused or disappointed if one of these things killed you... but then, the only thing holding you back is you, isn't it? You, yourself, and your friend fear.
[ Oh, he can tell, Minami. He's seen it before. Bloodlust and fear of it. In his own twisted way, he might even be trying to help her, despite his cruel words. ]
When it comes down to it, I wonder if you've got the guts to let go.
no subject
Considering he had the gift of being able to leave her in a sobbing mess once she was safely in her room, he was good at what he did.]
Let go?
[Let go means slashing, tearing, ripping apart shadows with her bare hands. Letting go means blood on her hands and not knowing when to stop.
Letting go meant making her enemies suffer for no reason whatsoever. How could she let go?]
no subject
[ Honestly? Probably the same things he did, if he was honest, but wasn't it so much easier to act like he knew everything about her and that she was weaker than him than it was to... admit they were the same and lower himself?
Make himself wide open and weak?
No. He couldn't afford that, not around ANYONE from SEES. ]
no subject
no subject
But he has a good pokerface. Good enough to hide how not alright he really is. ]
The creatures that came in here... they're like the ones from my world.
[ Usually a Persona user was immune to hearing a Shadow's luring call, though, because they were protected.
This was unsettling. ]
How many people have already died from listening to these things? Do you know if they can be killed?
[ He does not like it. This wasn't natural. Death was inevitable and (as seen from Karkat) people might come back, but... innocents were dying from these things. ]
no subject
But that isn't important right now. What do you know about them? Tell me everything.
If they're alive in any way, we do not kill them. We find and protect the others, but we do not kill.
no subject
[ He doesn't lie. Lives are at stake, but this needed to be cleared up. These... Shadow-like creatures. Minato is quiet, and Thanatos speaks in his mind, Samael hisses quietly--wraiths, nothing like Shadows at all, but Shadows weren't living creatures really either.
Minato frowns lightly, his expression serious. ]
... I'm not entirely sure how much I can tell you about them. The creatures I know of are called Shadows... they're manifestations of humanity's negativity.
They're... they usually take the shape of different monsters, and they feed on people's emotions. They've been known to cause Apathy Syndrome, a disease where a person's will to live is robbed from them... it's close enough so that they may as well have no soul, and they just become like living corpses.
[ He did not... necessarily find it pretty, but they needed these Shadows to live. ]
But they usually only appear during the Dark Hour... we use our Personas to fight them, as Personas are the only thing that can damage them--Personas are a person's Shadow, tamed and controlled for protection.
[ He wanted to know EVERYTHING, thus, though he is normally quite quiet, Minato has no problem speaking this much. ]
...wrong icon up there oops
[He thought for a moment]
We need to decide on a meeting place.
asdfhg OH I DIDN'T KNOW LMAO SORRY
They're phantoms. There's no point listening to the dead.
[ That's all he says, as abstract and vague as it is, before he turns. ]
The dorm rooms seem to be the only safe places as of now. We could meet there... I'm hoping to track down anyone else who isn't there and can't defend themselves.
[ He isn't aware as of yet that his Persona won't function on these things. ]
IT ISN'T YOUR FAULT. I'm just dumb
mmlsdg I AM TOO BUT I GUESS FOLLOWING YOUR LEAD?
I suppose for now forward would be the best direction.
[ Thus, he begins walking that way, sword and Evoker ready. ]
... By the way, did you find who you were looking for? I haven't seen the people you told me about, or the ones I'm searching for, although someone... else is here as well.
[ Of course, Minato is alert, even as he is speaking, and he can see the shadows moving around them in the distance. ]
WE CAN BE DUMB TOGETHER? Y/Y?
Yes, they're quite...special.
YYYYYY
... I can summon Thanatos if they get out of hand--
[ If they are, they are hungry. They've got two options: fight or run. Minato raises his Evoker to his head, waiting for a sign.
Hesitating. ... The Doctor obviously didn't want to hurt anything living, he wanted to respect that, but it was a little unnerving when they were drawing closer by the second. Luckily, years of fighting similar creatures has taught him one thing: patience, and to be calm in this situation. ]
Or we can run.

It wouldn't be wise to go at random, but he had spent some time looking around the halls by now, so Minato was reasonably sure he could somewhat tell where he was going. With any luck, they'd manage to slip past these... whatever they were.
Shadows...? Phantoms...? He wasn't sure.
He waits until he is fairly sure they've lost whatever those things were, in some room somewhere, before he catches his breath just a bit, silent.
... He is open for you to ask questions if you want, Doctor. Now might be a good time. ]
no subject
You don't have to be strong all the time.
no subject
What do you mean?
[ S-sob, what is being anything else. At this point he runs on Suppressors and the want to stay alive. ]
no subject
I just want to make sure you're alright, and that you know you don't have to pretend to be okay when you aren't.
no subject
Was it his place to know, really? Why should he trust anyone with how he feels or what's happened to him? He shouldn't. But he also... wanted others to be able to trust him, and wasn't it a two-way street? ]
... I'm not a fan of hearing people impersonate my team.
no subject
Neither am I. Don't you worry, though. Those voices are a lie. Don't listen to what they say.
no subject
... I'm aware of that. Shadows are the same.
no subject
no subject
How do I know I can trust you? Why do you want to help me?
no subject
no subject
I gathered that much myself.
[ There's a bit of sarcasm to his tone, something he rarely uses with people he is not comfortable with, at least. ]
But it means nothing to me. I suppose it should?
no subject
And you're so young...
[He trails off for a moment, losing himself in thought.]
It only means what you want it to.
Although you should know that demons run when they hear that name, whole galaxies rise when they hear my name, entire races shiver at the thought of going up against me. People in the right know that when I say mine name, they're safe.
But that's not why the name should matter to you.
no subject
Of course, Minato wasn't one to underestimate people, but somehow, he doubted the Doctor was just boasting. ... Even so, while he didn't feel a threat at present, he felt the need to make one thing perfectly clear. ]
I haven't lost anything. I don't fear any one thing or person. ... But trust can be easily misplaced.
[ A small lie. He feared many things most kids his age did not have to concern themselves with. Though dying was not among those things, he would not carelessly place trust in people he did not fully know. ]
no subject
[He's also mumbling to himself about various things. A water purifier. The Brotherhood. The Enclave. A 'Lone Wanderer'. Meta-humans. Vault 87. Given his lack of an inside voice normally, his mumbling is at the volume a normal person normally talks at.]
no subject
... Words, right. Maybe he should use them. ]
Excuse me, are you looking for something? Anywhere outside the dormitory rooms is dangerous right now.
[ His tone is neutral and passive, of course; he usually helps people anyway, and well, who was he to judge on appearance? ]
no subject
[Fawkes peers down.]
I... Am restless. There are things I need to be doing, and they do not involve staying here.
no subject
There are things we all need to attend to back home. I'm sorry you're trapped here as well.
