[ 01 ; aquarium ]
[There is just... something about being a Zora. To be able to move so quickly, so effortlessly... At first, Link just used the mask's abilities for his quests. But the ghost of Mikau whispered in the back of his mind, urging him to let go, to relax, to be a Zora instead of a boy pretending to be one. Hesitantly, he did, once. And it was unlike anything he'd ever felt before. He'd never experienced freedom, not like this. The only thing that came close was riding Epona, feeling her move powerfully under him, the wind in his hair, the unity of horse and rider as they barreled along the circular track. But this... This, is just him.
Link can be found as a blur darting throughout the water, leaping across the gaps between the columns without stopping. If you want his attention, you're probably going to have to yell or do something especially eye-catching.]
[ 02 ; music room ]
( 2.1 )
[There is a song playing on the floor 28, and while it starts off and features a solid string section, as per usual of the music room, a new woodwind voice joins the orchestra. If you look further into this matter, you'll find a boy sitting amongst the instruments, playing a small tan potato ocarina with his eyes closed.
He doesn't seem to notice you. What do?]
( 2.2 )
[Link was originally just passing through, but something caught his attention on the staircase on floor 28. At first, he can't quite tell what it is, and his curiousity gets the better of him. He can't help but to come off the staircase and take a look.
So what is it that you're doing to attract so much attention?]
[ 03 ; art room ]
[Whether you're just climbing up the staircase or turning a corner in the art room, this is the sight that awaits you. The boy in green tilts his head one way, stays there for a while, and then tilts his head the other way. Finally, he says aloud to himself,]
I don't get it.
[ 04 ; floor 11 ; for
giveschase only! ]
[Last month, Link found a mask in the Tower while searching for the stuff that was stolen from him. It was quiet and didn't speak of magic when he held it, so he simply stowed it away to investigate later. He still had the other masks to find, after all. But after that, he forgot about it. But once the month changed, he could suddenly feel its magic through his pack. He didn't think anything of it immediately, because there have been other things to focus on -- the return of everyone else in the Tower, namely -- but the longer he's ignored it, the louder it has gotten. Today, he's finally decided to sit down and check it out. What is it that made this mask so "vocal" all of a sudden?
He draws it out of his bag. The mask is of a man's face, complete with the Hylian ears. There was a blue marking on his forehead and two red markings under both of the mask's empty eyes. His hair is white with long parted bangs, just like Link's. Now that he's holding it, the mask seems to have quieted down a little, almost as if it is saying finally.]
Who are you...? [Link murmurs to the mask, as if expecting an answer. When he doesn't get one, he hesitates, and then raises the mask to his face.
And then, everything changes.]

His heart stops.]
S...
[His voice dies in his throat. No. No, she can't be here. She isn't there. He's seeing things. The Tower's playing tricks on him, or his mind is. But she's right there, and he...
Is this real?]

You're not dreaming. I promise.

For a moment, Link stares dumbfounded at the Fairy Ocarina in his hands. Coincidence? Was that all this was? Or... Did his subconscious prayers...
The ocarina is wet, he thinks, and he stares at the wet spots, wondering how that happened.]
You're... Why...? This place...
WHY YOU DO THIS TO ME
[Then waking up here, hearing everything had been taken away...]
I'm not sure why...or how even...I was so scared you were gone.
[There was a small crack in her voice, but no tears came from her. Instead, she clasped her hands around Link's, holding them steady.]
It's okay Link.
IT'S NOT MY FAULT I SWEAR
He manages to speak, but it's with a small voice.]
I was gone. I fell into another world...
[Termina. You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you? Three days. A woman crying in the rain. The moon. The regrets of two heroes. A little girl, once so full of energy, now...
Link's hands tremble inside of Saria's.
Now her hands are wet, too, he thinks. Why?]
YOU LIE THIS IS ALL...fault.../sobbing
[His tears rained down on her hands, his hands trembled, but Saria's grasp remained firm. He's been through a lot, much more than she was aware of.]
[Was being there all she could do for her friend?]

I only had three days to save them... but it wasn't enough. The Goddess of Time... made them repeat. Three days... The same... And I...
[It still wasn't enough time.]
I'm sorry.

[He kept repeating those words. Three days. It was possible with the power of the Goddess of Time, for that short of amount of time to be endless.]
[But, even after saving Hyrule? It seemed too cruel.]
[Saria leaned in, ducking her head slightly, all to try and meet Link's gaze.]
You did...everything you could, right? It's not your fault.
no subject
He... He'd tried so hard.
It's not your fault.
The little part of him that whispered isn't it? got no response, no validation from the rest of his head. If Saria said so, then it must be right, right? Saria knows best. She's always known best. And now that she's here, he isn't alone any more.
... it's ridiculous. He's never been alone. There are his roommates, the friends he's made, there is Princess Zelda and Woods and Sea and Sky and Fado. Even back in Termina, he had Tatl, at the very least, even if everyone else forgot him. And even though no one in Hyrule remembered what he'd done as an adult, what they'd been through together...
... but... then... Why has he been feeling so alone? Why was he having trouble accepting that Saria's here? He...
I'm always alone, a part of his mind says suddenly, like it's supposed to be that way.
His breath hitches. Distantly, something in him begins screaming. When he speaks, his voice wavers.]
You... S... You shouldn't be here...

[His voice, the way he carried himself. He was trying so hard to hold himself together. It's strange, back then, they were always there for eachother. Time pulled them apart, to perform their duties.]
[It wasn't fair, for Link to have to feel this pain alone.]
I know. But that's something I can't change. I'm here for you Link.
no subject
Ashamed, he bows his head almost to their hands, as if that would keep her from noticing.]
no subject
[Not with her.]
[Carefully moving her hands, one wrapped around Link's back, the other his head, Saria pulled Link into a hug. She remained quiet, just letting him cry all he wanted.]

Since he watched Navi fly away.
Something twists painfully inside of him and he can't help the sounds he's making, small and pathetic and lost.
He quiets down, given time. He feels... like a child.]

[As a Sage, Saria could watch over Link. She was always there in spirit, protecting him as best she could along with the others. But in return, she left. All she could do was watch, never be there for him like she was now.]
[It's okay to feel like a child. To go back to days so simple.]
[It's okay.]
Link, do you still remember the song I taught you?

The magic still works. So whenever you need me, I can be there for you.
