Questions of science
Characters: Kidou Yuuto and Professor Hojo
Setting: Their room, room 2-08
Format: Action
Summary: Kidou's got a lot on his mind, he needs a scientists opinion!
Warnings: Shouldn't be anything... except depressed children........
[There were so many things going through this boy's head right now. A lot of things he needed to talk to someone about. There was no way he could talk to any of his friends though, or Kageyama. He didn't want to scare them, and he knew Kageyama would dismiss any of the ideas he had. No... he needed to talk to someone who understood things like this..
He opens the door to his room and is surprised to find Professor Hojo. Oh, that's right! The Professor would be a good person to talk theories with, being a scientist and all.
After closing the door behind him, he walks over with a bit of a smile on his face.]
Good evening, Professor.

Good evening, Professor.

He glances up when Kidou comes in. The boy has agreed to be his assistant, and that is promising. Hojo works with Fuhito and some of the other scientists in the tower at times, but they are men, mature and educated scientists, with their own definite ideas. It's useful to have someone who will follow his instructions. Sephiroth had never respected him like that; he'd been a difficult child. Not that Hojo minded very much, but it still rankled, his son's scorn (however reasonable it might have been).
Hojo is already smiling to himself as he works, and the smile doesn't fade.]
Ah, yes. Is it evening already? [He doesn't always keep track of the passing of time.]

[He blinked, straightening, then stretching.] Well, now that I'm aware that it's evening, I suppose that I have. I had meant to go back to the lab before dark, but it's so inconvenient to travel between the floors at night.

[Meaning: no, he hasn't eaten.]

Wait here, I'll get you something.

[And before Hojo can interject anymore, he's out the door.]
[A little while later, he's balancing a plate on his right arm with a cup in hand as he opens the door with his left hand. Before he steps in, he takes the plate off his arm so he doesn't drop it.
He walks over and places the cup, which has coffee in it, on a table and places the plate next to it. On the plate was a filleted catfish and a small salad.]
I wasn't quite sure what kind of food you like... so I hope this is okay.

He's still in the process of taking notes when Kidou returns. Well well, it seems having an assistant has more benefits than he'd counted on. His acceptance of Kidou's offer had been as much a whim as a practical choice, but so far it was serving him well. He puts down his notepad and looks up again. He eyes the food, then rises to his feet. He nods. He's not exactly a picky eater, but he is mercurial, and it can be hard to predict his reactions. However, he appears pleased.]
Yes, this is sufficient.
[He pulls a chair up to the table and sits down there.]

He stays quiet so Hojo can eat, but after a while, he decides to speak up.]
... Hey, Professor? What do you think these collars are used for?
no subject
Now, that's an interesting question. If I knew the answer, I would be much further along in my research. I hypothesize that they, and the liquid within them, sustain our lives in this environment.
[He points at Kidou's collar, then his own.]
We both have yellow liquid in our collars. As does the other boy. [He's referring to the fourth roommate. Hojo's not so good about remembering unimportant names, but he does take note of collar colors.] Yet Gandalf's is purple. The colors clearly have meaning, speak to some commonality between those who share them. Those with purple and blue collars may be more powerful. [Like his own creations. He had taken careful note of the colors assigned to all those from his world. There had been a number of them, and it had been helpful in his research.] I myself am an ordinary human, aside from my intellect. [Well, not exactly, but there's no need to mention that.]
So they must have something to do with sustaining our energy, as well.
no subject
I was talking with someone earlier about them, and we also decided that they have something to do with our live support. We didn't think about why the colors are what they are... but your theory sounds more then probable.
[And then there's a pause]
What do you think about the theory of us being clones from our original selves?
no subject
Ah, yes! I have considered that theory as well. It's possible. Yes, very possible that we have been replicated here, copies of our "original" selves, as you put it. After all, technically I am dead, but it would be possible for someone with the necessary knowledge and technology to rebuild me from a small genetic sample. To implant my memories would be a more complicated matter, but it's not outside the realm of plausibility, considering the other feats our "hosts" are capable of.
[Hojo does love to talk shop. He is also a little envious of the tower's technology. How such capabilities would help him in his work!]
If they are able to do that, it would likely be more convenient to create us anew here rather than transporting us, then make new copies whenever we are damaged beyond repair.
no subject
I also think the reason why it takes us some time before we can move after we've woken up after dying could be because our bodies need to finish recreating themselves.
no subject
That would be the case, but if they were able to repair or rebuild us rather than creating entirely new versions, there's no reason that that would not require recuperation time as well.
