Summary: After getting beaten up by Ghoul Powder'd Momotaros and subsequently rescued by SS!Link, Zelda's stuck in recovery. She's not exactly thrilled about it.
Warnings: Vague mentions of injuries, nothing too gruesome.


[Well, she supposes only being incapacitated once without actually dying in the process is a pretty good track record for someone who's been in this accursed place over eight months now.

Wander into one of the few non-ruined floors - the infirmary - and you'll find one Princess of Hyrule laid up in bed. She isn't as bad off as she could be (healing magic is something she definitely needs to learn more about), but there are still bandages peeking out under her clothing here and there, bruises where the wrappings don't cover, and even the stubborn Princess herself recognizes that she should probably stay put for a while.

Still, that doesn't mean it isn't horrifically boring. There's a notepad of Fellowship related things at her bedside table - an attempt to get something done when she can't do much else, but even that grows dull and stagnant after a while.

Someone please save the princess from her own boredom.]

Link is... hesitant to peek into the infirmary. He saved that girl's life. He ought to check on her. But... Her hair, her eyes, her ears, they remind him...

And he's not proud to admit that was why he saved her. Because she reminded him of someone else.

But he saved her life. He ought to see if she's okay.

So he steps inside the infirmary, very hesitantly, and makes his way to Zelda's bed.

[Well, Zelda isn't the only one who's stuck in the infirmary. To be fair, Xion would much rather be in a room - preferably Reno's and Shion's, but for now, she's here. At least Vanitas wouldn't have a clear indicator that she's here, and while she's better off resting for a while, she's well enough that she can get herself out of there at the first sign of trouble. Darkness corridors were handy like that.

She's been doing a lot of sleeping, lying on her side since that was apparently supposed to help, even if it hurt some still. It's been long enough though that she's starting to get bored as well as nervous. It's during one of these points that she looks around and realizes that not only is she not alone, that's someone familiar over there, yep.

Well. She can still walk. So, she gets out of bed, slips her boots on and walks over, face growing more concerned the closer she gets and the more obvious Zelda's injuries become.]

Zelda?

Link isn't the only one who's hesitant. In the rush of it all, when she could only process thoughts of survival, she hardly questioned the Hero from Skyloft coming to her aid. But now that she's had time to think about it, doubt has crept into her heart.

His name had disappeared from his door, hadn't it? And she's heard stories, witnessed conversations on the network detailing how sometimes your loved ones will come back after disappearing, only not to remember you.

She's worried, but doesn't let it show when Link walks in. Either way, she owes him her life, and so she smiles, friendly and polite. "Hello, Link."

He blinks, a bit surprised.

"You...know me?"

[She thought she heard familiar voices once or twice in her semi-conscious state. Not enough to really pin a name to them, but familiar all the same.

She may not know Xion terribly well, but she knows the girl gets anxious easily, and so she tries to reassure her with something of a calm, if tired, smile.]

Ah, hello, Xion. How are you?

... Well. That answers that, doesn't it. Her smile falters for a brief moment, but it returns just as quickly.

"Ah, perhaps it would be better to say that I know of you. You and yours are a part of my country's history, I believe."

Not a lie, though perhaps not entirely the truth, either.

"...a-are you from Skyloft?"

She doesn't dress like anyone from Skyloft, but maybe things had changed. She did say he was a part of history, after all.

She shakes her head.

"My country is a land called Hyrule. I... might be mistaken, but I believe it is simply called 'the Surface' in your time."

Yep, that wild, untamed world gets tamed eventually.

And here's where she gets the feeling her answer will only make troubleshooting worse. She takes a deep breath to steel herself, and...

"Princes...Zelda?"

"... That is correct."

Goddesses above, what does she do now? The way his voice just kind of breaks there breaks her heart. She averts her eyes, looking down to her lap instead.

"Fi has told me a bit about your adventure. About your Zelda. I... am her descendant, if what Fi tells me is true. That thought might not be very comforting, but..."

She... really doesn't know what else to say.

He has no idea how to respond to that.

He had no idea how to respond to the idea of Hyrule, to the idea that the surface was tamed, but this? This is far beyond him. It means that Zelda is okay, but... She's not here. But her apparent descendant is. No wonder she reminded him so much of Zelda. She is a Zelda. And she looks kind of like her, too. Maybe not exactly, but her hair, her eyes, her ear, her name...

Who... If Zelda had a family, who did she have that family with? Was it...him? Was that the reason why he was important to Hyrule? Was he going to have a family with Zelda? He should be happy about that thought, but.

She's not here.

She's probably...back at...the letter, was it a lie?

"I..."

He wants to leave. He wants to leave the tower and go home and find Zelda again. She's alive. His world is alive. It has to be, if one of her descendants is here! But he can't just leave, and he doesn't know how to get out of the tower, anyway. Nobody does.

He looks to his feet, hands balling into loose fists at his knees.

"...Zelda..."

The Princess watches his internal conflict with nothing short of sympathy and condolence. She knows how hard it is to be separated from someone you care deeply for - this wretched place has beaten that feeling into her time and time again.

Perhaps that's why she risks quietly reaching out, gently placing an encouraging hand on his shoulder.

"You will see her again. It may take some time, and it may feel like an eternity to you, but you will. And if I share any traits with her, then she will wait for you."

He might not be looking at her, but she tries a smile all the same.

"Do not despair."

"But...if my...our world was destroyed, isn't she...dead?"

[sageprincess]

She scoffs.

"Would the Goddesses allow their creation to be destroyed so completely as our captors claim? I do not believe so."

[sky_child]

He does smile softly, faintly at this.

"No... And...Hylia wouldn't, either."

Even if she's no longer immortal.

[Tara tends to make a point of stopping by the infirmary every few days. At the least, she's getting some fairly persistent headaches, and since she tries not to take more than a few pills from the time in case someone else needs them more, Tara nevertheless finds cause to pass through.

The sight of Zelda laying in one of the beds, though, drives every other thought out of Tara's mind. She makes a small, soft, panicked little noise before scurrying over the princess' side.]

Z-Zelda? Z-Zelda, w-what happened? A-Are you okay?

[Stupid question, she knows, but...well, old habits.]

That's better. She nods, and, satisfied, places her hand back in her lap.

"And we shall find a way back there someday. It will just take some time, is all."

And this Zelda, at least, has learned the value of patience very well.

[Zelda blinks in slight surprise as Tara rushes over, though that surprise is quickly replaced by her instinct to comfort as soon as it becomes evident just how panicked the other woman is.]

I am all right now, Tara; do not fret. I have not been injured in a way time will not heal.

[Her voice and expression remain composed, if somewhat tired.]

As for how I came to be this way... simply put, I was caught up in a battle I did not necessarily want to win. Unfortunately, men driven out of their senses are difficult to reason with.

He finally looks her back in the eye.

"So...if your name is Zelda...do you know someone named Link? Besides. Me, apparently, since I'm important to your history."

Once again, she nods, and something in her smile grows a little warmer, a little fonder. The more things change...

"I do, yes, and he is here in this Tower, should you ever wish to meet with him. He is a kind and noble soul, who will never hesitate to help someone in need."
