[001] Intro Post - Open~

Characters: Mary Magdalene and anyone she meets
Setting: Dorm room, halls, wherever else Mary wanders; mid-morning
Format: Prose to start but I'll switch to bracket spam if anyone prefers that
Summary: Panic, lots of it. Mary wakes up to find that her world is gone (which is pretty much her entire universe because she exists like... everywhere, thanks KOS-MOS/T-elos) and that she failed in her purpose to protect it.
Warnings: None, Mary's a good girl. Might have swearing, depending on who she meets, but it won't be from her.

The letters that she'd found had giving her reason to cry. And cry she did, dropped to her knees and wrapping her arms tightly around her knees for a good long time. Did that mean that Shion was gone? Yeshua? What about all her friends? Was she alone now? Mary didn't want to be alone, she couldn't stand being alone. It was why she had traveled with the Messiah, Yeshua and their followers. It was a group of people, all joined together with one purpose in mind.

And they were all gone. Were their souls gone too? Or did they safely migrate elsewhere? Souls were forever, even if they had fallen to pieces and spread throughout the UMN. Eventually, they could be pieces together and a person reborn. It had happened to her, in a way, when her soul had been attached to KOS-MOS and when her body was used to create T-elos.

Another sob wracked her body but she finally got up from the floors and wiped at her eyes. They were puffy and pink from crying but she didn't honestly care. In her time, appearance wasn't important only the way you behaved around people and treated them. With a deep breath to try to center herself, Mary stepped out into the hall with the letters clutched tightly in hand as if to give herself courage.

As it turned out, finding 'Shoutaro' and 'the Doctor' wasn't quite as simple a task as Nagi would have liked. The girl couldn't figure out the weird screened things, and had taken to an old detective standby instead- legging it and asking people.

But all that went out the window when she came across someone who seemed quite...upset. Her protective urges took over before she could even stop them.

"Ah, excuse me, miss! Are you okay?" ...way to be forward, Nagi.

Naminé was not used to having roommates. She would have to become that way, she'd realized already. The room was beginning to fill up. Still, when she was heading down the hall towards her (shared) room, she was not expecting to see someone new exiting it. Another new roommate, so quickly? Perhaps there really was something of a cycle to the timing of new arrivals; it seemed like there were several that came in around the same time she did.

At first, she wasn't sure quite what to do, and lingered where she'd stopped a little ways down the hall from the door the woman had just exited. She knew she should probably introduce herself, at least. Cautiously, she moved closer, but then her eyes caught sight of the letters still clutched in the woman's hand. A brief glance up towards her face solidified the quickly forming theory; this woman, like many, like Naminé herself, had not taken the news well. All the more reason to be proactive. Without further hesitation, the blonde girl stepped into the other woman's path, far enough ahead of her that she did not invade her space. Now, what in the world was one supposed to say?

She urged her face into a smile while she attempted to work that out. In the end, she settled for a gentle, "Hello."

Naminé shook her head, smile staying in place. "No, it was my fault. I'm sorry." There was just a little bit of an apologetic shift in her expression, and she seemed to mean it, despite the smile. "I just wanted to talk to you." Maybe not the best way to go about it, but it always worked before. "You're new, aren't you?" She nodded just slightly toward the letters, apparently feeling the need to explain herself.

Nagi seemed to nod at that, smiling much wider than one would expect.

"Don't rush yourself. There is an abundance of time here."

She paused, and took to stroking her hair.

"Until you get your bearings...you may want to stick to these floors. Some of the ones below us are...unpleasant."

"--Oh, sure." She glanced around briefly. There weren't very many people in the tower, by the standards of a city, but it was true that they all lived in the same set of rooms. Perhaps moving out of the hallways connecting those rooms WOULD be a very good idea. "...That was your room, wasn't it? The one you came out of?"

Not that Naminé knew of any reason it might be otherwise, unless she'd been searching the rooms on her own. "Because if it was, we're 'roommates'."

Naminé was watching carefully and noticed that relief. It surprised her, at least until she heard the explanation. That made her smile soften a little. She nodded, then turned suddenly to move past Mary and open the door, intending to make good on what she'd agreed to. Despite her attempts to be welcoming, Naminé was not exactly the most familiar with manners... like explaining oneself before suddenly walking off. It wasn't very far, but still.

She did, however, at least wait by the door, and at that point she asked what she'd begun to wonder. "Why?" It was an unabashedly but unoffensively spoken question.

Nagi's hand abruptly dropped, and she turned, her swords' sheaths clacking together. She stilled them with her hand, but seemed on edge at that question.

"This tower is unnatural. The structure defies common sense, and the only conjecture I can determine about it is that this place is composed by some sort of magical entity. Potentially more than one." She looked at the ground for a moment, then gave Mary a sidelong glance. "There are things at night which can cause harm, but they don't dare come to the dormitory floors. Even still, it's best to be careful."

"Taken away?" It was a reflex to ask; she'd seen that discomfort, but her curiosity had gotten the better of her, if only for a moment. The smile had disappeared almost immediately, and stayed gone, its place usurped by a frown. She could definitely understand not wanting to be alone -- that was why she'd been so curious in the first place. More and more, she was realizing that she had a lot more in common with many of the people here than she'd imagined.

"Oh." If only she hadn't asked. Despite the apparently 'happy ending' (more or less), she couldn't help shifting uncomfortably and turning her frown to the floor. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have asked." Admittedly, she was curious about why it happened, and who, exactly, this 'Wilhelm' was, but she refrained from asking this time around, having at least temporarily learned her lesson.

"...That's... probably a good way of thinking about things." At the very least, good for one's peace of mind. Naminé had her own things to regret, but in her case... she wasn't sure she could ever let it go, or at least forget, or that she should. After all, if she bore that shame for the rest of her existence, it would at least serve to deter her from making the same mistakes again.

"--It's alright, it was my fault, too. It's nice to meet you, Mary. My name is Naminé." Taking a cue from that cheerfulness, she smiled back.
