There are plates stacked high with them. The kitchen is a mess. Waffle mix is everywhere.

Okay! Step One: Get your ingredients!

You will need: two cups of flour, three teaspoons of baking powder, one tablespoon of sugar, one half a teaspoon of salt, three eggs, and one half a cup of milk.

This'll be enough to make five or six waffles.

O-okay. [...Aaaand she's not exactly certain where to start looking. C-can she just use hers--]

[She gestures to her pile of ingredients]

I've already got stuff ready, so congrats! Step One: Done and done.

[Judging by that smile and tiny laugh, she's kind of relieved.]

Heh, now for the harder stuff.

[She grabs a bowl]

We must add the ingredients to this bowl.

[She eyes the bowl carefully.] ...All at the same time?

If you're feeling really adventurous? Sure.

Me, I prefer to take it slow. One at a time.

[She cracks an egg] The key is to avoid getting the shell in the bowl. All we want is the yoke.

[...That is slightly intimidating. Carefully, she picks up one of the other eggs and eyes it.]

And even if you mess up, we can pick out the shell bits.

[Slowly, she nods, then carefully reaches out and tries to copy what she saw her do, only in her caution it ends up being more like 'crack the egg a little bit and let it leak out'. Fortunately, said leaking doesn't involve bringing shell bits with it, and after a moment she carefully pulls the egg open a little further so they'll get out of there before Christmas.]

You are doing way better than I did when I first tried to make them. Mom didn't exactly appreciate the dozen cracked eggs on the floor.

Or the added crunchiness of the waffles.
