2nd Recipe - Substitute Ingredients

Summary: Kazumi wakes up in the body of a different magical(?) girl. Confusion ensues. Replies from witchofpleiades.

[Room 3-11, Dorms - Day 1]

[At first, Kazumi barely even notices anything is amiss as she gets up - her body is, more or less the same, and she's half asleep. It's only when she goes to brush her hair and pokes her ears that she notices...]

Huh, what?

[And feeling around, she confirms that yes, she has dog ears. Staring in the mirror, she tries to clear her eyes but everything remains kind of blurry until she squints up close. That. That is not her face at all.]

What's going ooooon!?

[Floor 1, Cafeteria - Any Day]

[Dressed in Jade's dogtier godtier outfit and equipped with glasses, Kazumi is... down in the kitchens of course. She's cooking up a storm as usual, and more than willing to share. If you think it's odd that Jade is cooking so much, you recognize Kazumi's cooking (can people do that???) or are just hungry, come bother her!]

[Floor 25, Meadow - Any Day]

[Kazumi-in-Jade's body is out enjoying this one peaceful floor quietly... right until she sees one of the tinkerbulls go fluttering by. Normally she just feels kind of sorry for them but something about the way this one flies by just... makes her... want to...]

[Floor 10, Aquarium - Any Day]

[Kazumi is trying out Jade's space powers... shrinking things down or making them bigger. Mostly trying it on some of the fish, making tiny sharks or humongous minnows. She's giggling and having a lot of fun with it, though she jumps back in surprise when she accidentally makes a fish so big it bursts out of the wall of water, almost hitting her before she quickly shrinks it back down]

Aack! Geez, that was scary...

[The long hours slaving away at a management job she had little experience with or attraction to was one of the reasons she had begun to resent Maria. If that child didn't exist, then...]

[If Kazumi can notice, the purple stone on the ring on Rosa's finger seems to have turned a shade darker.]

I guess being an adult can be tough, huh?

[She does kind of notice, which makes her wonder]

Is that... a Soul Gem?

[homurosa]

...Is that what it is? I...just thought that it would be best if I kept it by my side.

[She has no idea why she is thinking that.]

[witchofpleiades]

I think so! It looks like the ones my friends have...

You haven't spoken with the original owner of your body?

[homurosa]

[She shakes her head. No, not yet.]

[witchofpleiades]

You may want to look for them then. I mean, because I'm not sure, but if that is a Soul Gem... you have to be kind of careful with it! You have magical powers but you need to be careful about using them.

[homurosa]

[Magic? She's had enough of magic. Without even thinking, she pulls the ring off and throws it away at one of the walls.]

[But as the ring sails away, she starts feeling strange. It's like half of her is sitting at the table and the other half is...flying. Then, sight and sound and smell all disappear and all she can feel is the rush of air on her face before landing on the ground.]

[As she lies there, she tries to move, but can't. She doesn't even feel human anymore.]

[Meanwhile, Rosa's current body, with no Soul Gem to control it, collapses to the ground.]

[Kazumi runs after the ring, chasing it down the cafeteria WHO MADE THIS PLACE SO BIG until she finally catches up with it, picking it up and running back.

She'd heard Jyuubey mention "within 100 meters" but she hadn't thought about what happened if that limit was broken... coming back, she picks up Rosa's cold hand and slips the ring back on]

Please be okay, please be okay, please be okay...

[homurosa]

[She can feel something soft wrapping around her, and then the sensation of being moved. And suddenly, she can move again.]

[She opens her eyes and sees Kazumi looking at her.]

What...happened?

[witchofpleiades]

[Kazumi breathes a heavy sigh of relief that Rosa woke up]

Oh thank goodness...

You, uh... you disconnected. From your body.

You see, your Soul Gem... is your soul. The body is just a shell controlled by it, within a certain range. If you move out of that range...

[homurosa]

H-how?

[Rosa's hand flies to her ring again as she wonders whether or not she should throw it away. How could she be something so disgusting as a rock?]

[witchofpleiades]

It's... because of the contracts we made to become Puella Magi. We didn't know it at the time, but they pulled our souls out and crystallized them into Soul Gems.

[homurosa]

[Rosa just stares, unable to say or do anything.]

[witchofpleiades]

So, um... please be very careful with it! Both for your own sake and the girl whose body this normally is.

[homurosa]

Why...

[Her voice is barely a whisper.]

Why...did I have to go into this body?

[She had been turned into the very thing she hated. The very thing that had killed her family.]

I don't know... it's the work of the tower administrators, right? I wonder if they have a reason or they're just being mean to us...

[Rosa mutteres.]

These Administrators...are no better than Witches.

You aren't a witch! Or you aren't yet.

That's why you have to be careful about your Soul Gem... if it gets too dark, you'll become a witch and... well, basically you'll die. As a person.

Wait...I'm supposed to use magic. And I'm not a Witch?

[witchofpleiades]

That's because you're... a magical girl!

[homurosa]

How is that different from a Witch?

[Maria had never mentioned Magical Girls, just Witches.]

Because Magical girls are the ones who fight witches and protect people from their curses using hope and miracles!
