Aftermath [open]

Summary: General aftermath of the body swap event, Suzaku finally emerges because his Geass forces him to find food and then he cooks food, come and join him!
Warnings: Angst, themes of death and deaths seeking. Also various people punching Suzaku in the face

The moment Suzaku had been forcibly returned to his own body he had fled the library, fled those who had dragged him here, fled the frightened faces of those returning to normal and went and hid. The tower was a good place to hide, floors where no one wanted to go, floors with lots of places to go.

Floors that filled both criteria, like the one Suzaku had been hiding out in. It was ridiculously morbid he thought hiding in a graveyard but he didn't think it was a real one. After all it had just appeared and it wasn't like anyone died here...

But he had hid, stewing in his own thoughts sorting out what had happened. He still remembered what he had learned from Jin, but he knew they were his memories now. Separate from Suzaku's own. This probably meant Jin had his own memories as well, knew everything that Suzaku hadn't been telling people for the year he had been there.

And he had hurt them, Jin, Minato, Yu... They had tried to help him and he had lashed out. Tried to die... tried to kill Jin...

Minato had told him he wouldn't forgive him and Suzaku believed him. Part of him was relieved that Minato's constant forgiving him for every wrong Suzaku did him would be over. The only times he had left this floor was to check that Lelouch and Nunnally were alright. He hadn't spoken to them though, just saw from a distance. He knew he should speak to them, they would have had their own issues, especially Nunnally. It was the first time such a thing had happened while she had been here.

But he couldn't bring himself to face them and solitude was easy. He knew it was cowardly but in a lot of ways things were harder here than they had been at home. He had no goal, for the first time since he was ten.

So he had stayed and let the exhaustion that struck whenever he slept out of his own bed and the hunger get to him. Finally though the Geass took over, because it could not let him get too week, would not let him die.

And so anyone passing through floor twenty six would see tendrils of smoke away from the stairs, Suzaku cooking a rabbit he had caught in the forest, now he was actually cooking the food the Geass flare had faded from his eyes, hunger doing the rest to make sure he ate..

It wasn't something he had ever had time for, but now the quiet times between horrific events were longer than they had been. And he had nothing better to do.

"Yes, I do. It brought peace, the world was able to move on."

"For how long, do you think?"

Jin was no historian, and in fact had very little education on history. But he knew some from philosophical discussions, and the history of war among mankind was practically a cultural osmosis in his world.

"You do a stupid stunt to try and bring peace to the world, but how long d'ya think that'll last with the kind of people you left behind? The kind of people that put you through that crap in the first place?

"I don't know." Suzaku answered truthfully, "But hopefully those left behind will be better, Lelouch told me Scneizel was no longer a problem. I am not sure how, but with him out of the way whoever they decide to make emperor... They have to be better than that. So perhaps the shock will wear off after a while but hopefully peace will remain."

He could tell that Suzaku probably in all honesty believed that. It was both pathetically sad and amusing, and he let out a sound that was somewhere between a laugh and a scoff.

"Changing one person can't change the lot of them. Humanity as a species isn't able to achieve any kind of true peace until they're all dead in the ground. Like I said, temporary at best."

Suzaku raised an eyebrow at him, "So killing everyone would be your solution?" Not exactly a way to a peaceful world...

"Nah. I don't care about world peace, and I'm not the mass-genocidal type." His expression and tone were pretty damn passive as he said that, and he gave a slight shrug of his shoulders to match.

"But if the world were going to end in my lifetime? I'd welcome it with open arms."

Suzaku's eyebrow remained raised, he supposed he should be glad Jin wasn't the mass genocidal type considering Moros... If he was then he could do a lot of damage.

"Well if our captors are to be believed it has. Are you glad about that?"

Trust us Suzaku, when you have the herald of Doom in your head, you really get points for not turning out even worse.

"Can't say I really care either way if they're right or wrong. I'm just disappointed I wasn't there to see it."

and the not as much of a jerk as he could have been award goes to...

Well... he can't say he's surprised. He knew that already. "Have you ever been sent back?"

wow never thought he'd get that award of all awards

"To the dead world? No."

He shrugged, though it seemed like he was mellowing out a bit. Somehow.

"Doesn't make much of a difference now though. From what I hear it's just dirt and broken buildings."

"It is." Dirt, broken buildings and broken people. He shrugged in response, since he didn't have to say anything really, Jin had all his memories including those of being sent there.
