☆ 001 : DEBUT ☆ "Apparently there is nothing that cannot happen today."
Characters: Rise (
idol_support) and YOU! :D
Setting: Starting in Room 2-01, then WHEREVER SHE HAS TO GO TO FIND HER FRIENDS, K (i.e. feel free to choose if you'd like!); morning of the 12th
Format: Posting with prosebecause I can't help it, sob; no preference for the comments, I will happily follow your lead!
Summary: Rise wakes up (in her Halloween costume, lol) and goes lookin' fortrouble her peeps!
Warnings: Uh...the usual Intro Post Semi-Ramble, and possible spoilers for the True End of Persona 4 (...does that even count any more...), but otherwise nothing so far!
It could have been worse. Waking up in a strange place and then experiencing a short period of sleep paralysis were far from Rise's idea of fun, but while it had been a little scary, she wasn't the type to let something like that get her down or frighten her into inaction; not any more. After all, she'd experienced things tons scarier than that since she'd moved to Inaba and gotten her Persona--it wasn't like it was the end of the world or anything!
...The end of the world...a terrible concept, and one that was vividly real to her now, but also less terrifying at the same time, all things considered. She'd read that your world has been destroyed letter, yeah, sure, but it wasn't the first totally B.S. letter left by some huge creep that Rise had seen this year. Plus she'd received enough iffy fanmail during her career as an idol to know that people could write whatever the heck they wanted, but that didn't make any of it true. She would have to see for herself that the world was destroyed before she'd even begin to believe it! There was really just no way it could be destroyed--she and Senpai and all their friends (but especially Senpai) had just saved it.
More than likely this was the TV World, and some jerk had kidnapped her (ugh, again! That was twice in one year! Twice!) and dumped her here. At least, that's what she'd thought at first...but this place just didn't feel right somehow. Not that the TV World had, but that had been a different sort of Not Right. This was...this was...augh, she didn't even know what this was! It had to be somewhere kinda like the TV World, though, another place that existed outside (or was it more like inside?) of the Real World, because she could summon Kanzeon here with no problem. That had been the first thing she'd done, in fact; the ceiling had looked a little low to try it here, but she had no idea where she was or what to expect when she went through the room's solitary door, and "kinda cramped quarters" was still better than "totally dangerous open area". Anyways, she could always do a more intensive scan later on, when she had a better idea of where she was and what was going on.
What she'd found on doing that initial scan had both reassured and confused her, because ooh, some of her friends were close by! ...But wait, there were a looot of people here, and it looked like there were more--way more--Persona users than just the Investigation Team, whatever that meant... She didn't know anything about them, so Rise couldn't get a solid feel on how many, or exactly where they were, but there were definitely others like them here.
Still, that wasn't the most pressing thing on her mind just now, because in addition to this being a super-weird place...there was also the costume.
Rise hadn't wanted to stay here in this room any longer than it took Kanzeon to run a quick scan of the place and give her a general heads up, but she'd still stopped long enough to change...or she'd tried to, anyway. The outfit she'd found herself wearing on waking up had to go.
It wasn't that she didn't look good in it, and she'd worn a lot less than that on national television, so it could've been way worse, but still! Whoever had kidnapped her this time was a real weirdo (and the idea that someone had changed her clothes while she was unconscious was creepy on a whole new level that Rise decided was best not to think about for now). Fortunately, among other things, she'd found some of her normal clothes in the storage trunk at the end of the bed (which, she'd been interested to note, Kanzeon's scan had designated a Treasure Chest). She'd felt a little unsure about changing when she didn't know whether or not there were any hidden cameras--an idol couldn't be too careful after all, even a former-but-hopefully-returning-to-showbiz-soon one--but she pushed that concern aside as well. Their school uniforms were essentially Full Battle Dress for the Investigation Team, and this place felt strange enough that Rise wanted that extra jolt of confidence from the familiar. That had led to a brief (and utterly hopeless) struggle with the weird collar around her neck (it fit snugly enough that she wasn't sure if she'd still be able to wear her usual white turtleneck), but no amount of tugging, pulling, or twisting could get it off, so she'd conceded defeat for now, and just left off wearing the turtleneck this time.
She'd had to concede defeat again just a few seconds later, when she found that the devil costume wouldn't come off, and then a third and final time when she tried wearing her uniform on top of the costume. It had been a little tricky, what with those wings and all, but she'd managed...only to find that somehow, when she'd briefly turned her attention back to the second (much longer) of those two letters she'd found on waking up, the devil costume had somehow ended up on top of her uniform. Which didn't make ANY sense, and looked a whole lot worse than just wearing the costume on its own had. Ugh! If that was how things were gonna be, then fine! She'd just wear the stupid costume already! She had more important things to worry about anyways--namely, finding her friends and figuring out what was going on here!
Getting the uniform off again was more of a struggle than getting it on had been, but she managed it eventually; by then, she was more than ready to get out of here.
"All right!" she said to herself--hearing the cheery sound of her own voice in her ears was oddly comforting. "Time to find everyone and figure this place out!"
Snatching up the two lettersand totally ignoring the plastic pumpkin and the attached note that had been sitting on her trunk, Rise headed out to face the Tower and (hopefully) find her friends.

[...and then his helmet chose that moment to shove itself back onto his head, knocking him off of his feet.]
no subject
'cause WHOAno, we are not playing THAT game again, you're falling on your ass by yourself this time, d00d, then posts her hands on her hips, frowning slightly as she looks down at him. That...maybe kinda looked like it hurt a little.]...You okay?
[The question comes a little grudgingly, but there's some honest concern there, too.
And now it's her turn to offer him a hand up.]
no subject
[He reached up, holding his head. Ow, man... ow.]
no subject
needed towanted to step in and save this guy, though--he's a little awkward, in a puppyish sorta way.]*chuckle* I hear ya there--look at the wings on mine! I have to go through doors sideways!
no subject
Yeah, that's gotta be annoying.
[He paused a moment, before rubbing the back of his neck.]
U-um... s-sorry... about before and... everything. I'm... trying to get used to not being a jerk... and... yeah. Sensei is helping me with that; I didn't mean to be rude...
no subject
or is she, Rise tugs on the front of her costume a little. Fortunately(?), it...doesn't really pull away from her skin more than maaaaybe a centimetre or two.][Ah, and there's her apology. She is not going to apologise for hitting him, 'cause he TOTALLY deserved it, but she'll return the sentiment as far as running into him is concerned. Smiling, she gives a careless wave of her hand.]
It's fine! I really should've been watching where I was going, too. I was just in a hurry to try to find Senpai and everyone else! [She blinks a little at that last part of what he says, though, curious.] 'Sensei'? Who's your sensei?
no subject
Er... it's a long story, but when I say 'sensei', I mean Yu.
no subject
What's wrong with calling him Sensei? It's not really that strange, especially if you're learning things from him. He's taught us all a lot, too, so it's nothing to be embarrassed about. And that's what our friend Teddie calls him all the time, so he's probably pretty used to it by now.
no subject
Yeah, I know Teddie does. He's the reason I do that.
[He reached back, rubbing the back of his neck.]
Just... it's not even my language, you know?
no subject
...Not in the same way and for the same reasons of course, lolBodySwap, but Rise can't know that.]I didn't know that, actually...to me, it sounds like you're speaking perfect Japanese. [Of course, he doesn't look like he's from Japan...] So where are you from?
no subject
[He cut himself off, giving her a look. He had just gotten used to not making those horrible bear puns, thank you! After a moment, though, he let out a sigh, letting it drop for now.]
But yeah, now that you mention it... everyone here sounds like they're speaking the Fonic Language, except some words come out weird sometimes.
[Weird tower magic? Who the heck even knew anymore.]
I'm from-- [...well. Where was he from? He didn't even know anymore.] ...uh, well, my world is called Auldrant.
no subject
Fonic...Language? [She's not the best when it comes to foreign languages, but WELP, that's definitely a new one. 8|a] "Auldrant", huh...yeah, that's a totally different world than the place I'm from. But I bet you heard all that from Senpai already.
[...And well, Other Worlds is still an interesting and curiosity-inciting thing, especially since they're apparently not at all like the TV World, which makes it impossible to resist asking about it a little.] So what's Auldrant like? [That's a pretty broad question, so--] What's the best thing about it?
no subject
[...yeah, that's the problem when you go through life with your eyes closed. Sometimes you miss the important details. Luke frowned, folding his arms over his chest...]
...there's this really pretty valley, not far from Chesedonia, the center of trade. It's pretty deep in the woods, but you'll know it once you get there. There are all these flowers around called selenias, and they only open up at night. They're pure white, and they look like they're reflecting the moonlight. Just beyond that is a cliff face that looks out to the sea, and it looks like the water's stretching out forever.
[Luke paused a moment, feeling a pang of guilt in his heart. Now, that was all gone...]
I-I guess that's the best thing.
no subject
[He sounds sorta sad about it, though...but she's not gonna push the issue.]
I dunno what my favourite thing about my world is. There's just so much about it that's great, it's hard to pick just one thing, you know? The hill overlooking the town I lived in, the peacefulness of the Samegawa riverbed, the way you could almost feel the hum of excitement coming off a crowd during a big performance...
[She misses that last one especially, and way more than she thought she had.]
But I guess...if I had to pick something, I'd say my friends are the best thing! Spending time with them was the most fun I'd ever had, no matter what we ended up doing together.
no subject
[That's weird... from what Yu was telling him, he got the impression that Shadows were a big deal, and... well, a world where monsters like that exist usually isn't that cool.]
What about those Shadow things?
no subject
[She can't help but smile at the memories
of hours of level-grinding, orz]And even the Shadows weren't so bad when everyone was working together to take 'em down!
no subject
[Sob, selective steampunk world.]
Hunh... it's... weird to hear someone so enthusiastic about it after what happened here.
LMAO oh Luke.
[CLUELESS RISE IS CLUELESS
because no-one's told her about the Shadow Event, sob]He is precious. :|b
[He paused, rubbing the back of his neck.]
Yu said the person that did it was trying to help us... and... yeah, I guess she did. But my Shadow was pretty difficult to deal with -- [Still is.] -- so... I can't really just accept that. Not yet anyway.
V. precious. And he manages to step on landmines every other stride. |D
[No-one has told her anything about this...]
...Wait. "The person that did it"? But that would mean... She's here?
[WHO would be crazy enough--or strong enough--or...or whatever enough to kidnap a god?
Yeah okay they might've beaten her in a fight, sorta, so maybe it was possible, but still..]...And you...so you've had to face yourself too, huh?
[And yet he says he can't accept it...how had that worked out, then? How had they dealt with his Shadow? He's alive, at least... Rise ducks her head just slightly, remembering her own experience.]
It can be pretty hard to accept it, but once you have, it really does make you stronger. Because...even though it's twisted and all blown out of proportion, there's still some truth to what your Shadow was saying.
[She'd been speaking in a quiet, serious tone, but now she brightens just a little.]
And once you know what your weak points are, you know what you've gotta work to fix! So...it's hard, but it's worth it in the end.
[TBH Rise wants to ask for details, but she knows better. She knows how personal those Shadow-attacks can get.]
Y E P
N-no, I accepted him... me... it...
[Whatever.]
I mean... I can't really accept she was trying to be helpful. Everything my shadow pointed out... it was painful. It's still painful. I almost want to say that I want to go back to when I didn't know all that stuff about myself.
[Almost.]
So I can't forgive her for that just yet.
no subject
Yeah, it's a pretty rough way of helping someone. I think they call it "tough love"? Still, having the worst parts of yourself shoved in your face, and shown on TV for tons of people to see? There's gotta be a better way to help people solve their personal problems and get stronger!
...So...did your Shadow turn into a Persona, too? [Normally she wouldn't even have to ask, but a lot of things are different here than they are in the TV World, so.]
no subject
[Luke, you weren't even sure what a TV was a few minutes ago, stop that. At her question, his shoulders slump, the disappointment obvious.]
No, I didn't.
[...and a bit of jealousy in there too? Well, who could blame him; he was friends with Yu, master of head gods.]
no subject
[...doooon't really wanna talk about that part. Bad idea bringing it up in the first place. But YEAH she catches that jealousy there, and no, she doesn't blame him one bit.
'Cause owning a purse is pretty neat, really.]Aww...I guess this place is even weirder than I thought. Having to go through everything is kinda a lot less "helpful" if you don't get a Persona in the end. I mean, it's still good to know what your issues really are, but...
I wonder what yours would've been like, though? If you had gotten one, I mean.
