Summary: After what happened here, Catarina is taking her guilt and anger out on monsters and anything in her path
Warnings: Gore, usual succubus shenanigans

[It started fairly innocently. The first floor was as clean as it usually was, until the stairs were encountered. Once there, it was obvious someone had fought a monster and had a few aggression issues to take out. It was a bloody affair with bits and pieces scattered in quite a few places, but other than that, it wasn't that bad.]

[The following floors had worse. It looked like someone had started to go out of their way to find monsters, the aggression becoming worse and worse. As the carnage started to get worse, there started to be the sound of a woman laughing maniacally. Close to the sixth floor was the source, one Catarina Amanto covered in blood, guts, and possibly little else, knife in her hand and eyes wild. She was laughing still, looking around for her next victim.]

[This is definitely a quiet elevator ride. Saber remains silent as she exits onto the dorm floor and heads to the correct room.]

[Her voice was soft]

Why?

[Pausing outside the door, Saber looked down.]<

Why what?

Do you feel the way you do about her?

That is a complicated question I am unsure I can answer coherently. The ways of the human heart do not make much sense to even those that possess one.

Hm. [Catarina fell quiet at that, thinking]

... she is lovely, though.

She is indeed. Hair like the freshly fallen snow... [Saber sighs.] And yet she does not see beyond the shadow or her deceased husband.

[Only Saber could get cockblocked by a dead man. The king seems destined to be lonely.]

...forgive me. I spoke more than I should have.

I didn't stop listening, did I? I hadn't realized you feel so for another.

And I had not thought I would ever get a 'second chance', you could say, with her. She did not survive the war. [Due to Saber's failings.]

...it is unrequited, Catarina. Another burden I must live with.

I... see. I don't quite understand, but I do see.

Humans hearts are complicated and mine is blackened. In the end, it does not matter.

[Which was sad, but true.]

And why would it even begin to matter if your heart is blackened? Mine is born of darkness and still feels, needs, hates, and yearns.

And what would happen to you if you loved an angel?

[Oh Saber. Saber. You didn't just say that ~~mostly because in her canon this is right around the time she's starting to fall for an angel~~. Catarina twitched hard in Saber's arms, her eyes wide in shock and the slightest hint of a blush under the gore on her face]

What sort of question is that?!

A poignant one. And you reaction speaks to me that you do understand what I mean. I am not a demon and she is not an angel, but we are still similar foils.

A demon is not supposed to love an angel, correct? I am not supposed to love her.

And yet I do.

[Aaaaaaand Saber is going to shift Catarina to one arm so she can open the door.]

It's not... not the same. Angels cannot touch demons without killing them.

It is metaphorically similar. I am always afraid one day I will reach our and find I can not longer touch her, just as I can no longer touch Avalon.

Do you ever hate her?

...no. Just those that created her and him for barring me from her heart.

And myself for failing her.

[Catarina reached up, brushing a gory hand across Saber's cheek] ... I hate the angel every day.

The line between Love and Hatred blurs often, my dear. I can understand your hatred.

[Saber sets Catarina back on her feet.]

It is a far easier emotion to handle.

[Catarina closes her eyes as she was settled on the ground. She didn't want to believe it, but... perhaps Saber's relationship with the beautiful white haired woman wasn't too far away from the one she had with Lauren.]

It is.

[Saber puts a hand to Catarina's cheek.]

Will you be well enough now that you are here?

I promise to you, my monster hunting madness has ended for the day. [She smiled at Saber, cupping her hand]

Good. Clean up, warm yourself and rest. I will see you another time.
