☆ 002 : WARM-UP ☆ "All of us contain Music & Truth, but most of us can't get it out."
Characters: Rise Kujikawa and YOU!
Setting: Floor Twenty-Eight, the Music Room, or prettymuch anywhere else you want.
Format: Prose and Action both A-OK; you pick and I'll follow your lead!
Summary: Rise does her best to get in a little vocal practise for the (possible) upcoming Gas Chamber, Tower Edition show. Make a song request, pick up an instrument and join in, just listen...that part's all up to you. :]
Warnings: Event-related things, perhaps...or maybe she just has the regular flu. :3 Otherwise nothing.
Rise stood behind the electronic keyboard, shoulders relaxed, arms by her sides. Breathing in slowly, she hummed a low note (try to find the note where you feel maximum vibration in your lower abdomen) as she exhaled, one hand pressed to her midriff. After repeating that a few times, she shivered and huffed out a sigh instead, breaking the rhythm. But well, at least it was easy to make sure she was doing her breathing exercises right, since thanks to the cold, she could see every breath that left her mouth.
The cold did make it pretty hard to play the piano well, though--not that she was AMAZING at it even under normal conditions, but she was far from terrible, on the upper side of average at the very least. A singer who couldn't read music at all or play an instrument at least a little would be an embarrassment to her agency, and Rise was a quick study anyways.
After rubbing some circulation back into her fingers, she got to work on playing--and singing--some scales.
(It's nothing too interesting at first, but if you wait for a while, she might start practising an actual song or two...or maybe not. She might just start coughing instead...)

At the mention of Izanami, Tohko nodded her head. "Of course I know about Izanami! So, that's the goddess that's stuck in the Tower? Is she different in your world compared to the stories?"
Tohko chuckled when Rise asked what made The Little Prince so wonderful. "Like a glass full of water, it revitalizes you and makes you realize what's truly important in the world. It wakes you up and gives you hope, if you're low on it. It's sweet..but pretty salty as well."
Tohko grew up with, lived, and ate books, so she knew most of them pretty well. Tohko nodded in agreement with Rise. "This Tower is pretty weird. The Administrators seem to have the power to pull people from different points of time and alternate universes..it's a shame that they don't care about who has to deal with that."
Tohko sighed for a moment before Rise started coughing again. "Hey, are you alright? Want me to grab some cough syrup?!"

"She's..."
How to describe Izanami, really? Yu would probably have a much better answer to this question, but she'd do her best.
"She's mostly the same, but a little different, I guess? For some reason, she decided to take a more active role in our world, and fulfill humanity's 'true desire'. To figure out what that was, she awakened a special power in certain people... It's kind of a long story, and it'll probably be a little confusing, but I can tell you about it if you really want to know."
And speaking of stories...
Rise still thought the glass of water analogy was a little odd, but she could understand the idea of something being good but bittersweet. Plenty of love stories were like that, after all. "If it's really that good, maybe I'll have to check it out for myself sometime."
It took her a second to catch her breath after that coughing fit, but she did her best to smile and wave away the other girl's concern. "N...no, I don't think that'll do much good..." Supposing the people on the infirmary floor would even give them cough syrup, which Rise wasn't so sure about. "Thanks though. But I think I'll just go straight back to bed once I finish practising." Getting more rest couldn't hurt, right?

"I see..she's a little different than in the stories, but that's not a bad thing. What sort of power? And don't worry! I like listening to stories. If you want to tell me, I'd be more than happy to hear it!"
Reading stories was the only thing that was better than listening to them. Tohko smiled and nodded. "It is! You should read it sometime. It'll warm your heart and make you cry buckets at the same time."
As Rise refused help, Tohko sighed. "Alright then..do you mind if I stay here while you practice? I could finish writing this..and it would be nice to hear what you sounded like!"
...//further abuses the fact that her character has such a prolific seiyuu |3
"...I don't mind telling you, but...maybe we should take a rain cheque on that for today?" It really was a long story, and between the coughing, her already-sore throat, and how all-around tired she was lately, Rise wasn't sure she could manage it right now. "I promise I'll tell you all about it, though! It's just, right now..."
She pressed a hand to her chest with a rueful smile, then added, "And I'll definitely look for that story you mentioned in the library first chance I get."
As for Tohko staying to listen to her practise... Well, she was here, and sick and coughing or not, she'd see this practise session through--especially now that she had an audience!
"Sure!" she said, brighter and more alert at the idea of performing for someone. "I'm mostly done with the boring stuff anyway, so I'll go ahead and sing an actual song for you!" She thought for a minute, going over her repertoire of songs before nodding to herself with a smile, and performing a piano-only version of this song. She does quite well too, managing it without a single hitch or even the hint of a cough.
Well, if it's out there, why not use it? ^^
While Tohko loved stories, she'd hate it if Rise's throat grew worse because she was telling her one. She could wait for it later. Tohko then smiled. "Alright then! Let me know what you think of it when you're finished, alright?"
When Rise said that she was going to sing an actual song, Tohko looked a bit..puzzled, but happy. She wasn't quite expecting that, but it was alright. "Alright then! Good luck!"
As Rise sang, Tohko wrote a love letter, and when she was finished, she clapped her hands lightly to the beat. When she was finished, Tohko clapped and applauded her.
"That was amazing, Rise! You're pretty good!"
Exactly! :D
"Yeah, I'll definitely let you know!" That was, supposing she could find the book in the sprawling, confusing mess that was the Library Floor...
Listening to someone sing scales and stuff like that just wasn't all that interesting, and Rise would much rather sing something that the person listening to her would enjoy; thus, her choice to sing an actual song!
Rise beamed at the praise, tucking her hands inside the cloak and sitting down on the piano bench behind her--much as she hated to admit it, she needed a break after a performance like that. "Thanks! But if you think that's good, you should've seen how I used to be. I took a pretty long break from my singing career back home, so I'm still a little rusty right now, but I'm getting back to where I was before. With another month or two of hard work, I'll be ready for anything again, maybe even better than ever!"
Sitting up a little straighter, Rise peered towards the notebook in Tohko's hands with an eager little smile. "Sooo...how'd it go with writing your letter? And how are you gonna give it to him? Are you gonna do it right now, or wait until Christmas Eve?"
Yup!~ ^^
Tohko smiled at that. Hopefully, this person did manage to read it. More people needed hope in this Tower, and The Little Prince could provide it. And, if Rise had trouble finding it, Tohko wasn't just the book girl-she was also a librarian. She could help.
Tohko's smile just grew when she heard Rise talk about her singing career. "That's amazing! I'm sure you'll be up to speed in no time! Hey, there's a guy around here named Yosuke who isn't that bad on the guitar. Maybe you two can hold a concert or something!"
And when Rise mentioned the letter, she chuckled nervously, and her face went a bit red. "Well..I finished it. And I'm planning on giving it to him as a Christmas present. I may have to give it earlier though, if things get worse as the month drags on."
She'd also have to explain what Christmas was to Enoch. But that was neither here nor there. Tohko held the notebook out to Rise.
"If you want, you can read it, since you already know about it. "
...Aww, that letter... <3
And yeah, if she had trouble finding the book, she'd just ask Tohko about it. Or Senpai, he knew plenty about books too, and could usually do just about anything he really set his mind to.
Rise blinked at the concert suggestion, though that wasn't the part of Tohko's comment that really caught her interest. "Yosuke... Do you mean Yosuke Hanamura?"
She blinked again when Tohko held out the notebook, then had to rein in her sudden eagerness. "Ooh, I'd love to! But...are you really sure you want me to?"
I guess it's a bad time to mention that her mun and I know that she'll be rejected, huh?
If she was, it would be even easier to set this up..assuming it would all work. Tohko chuckled and nodded.
"Of course. I wouldn't if I didn't want you to. Besides, you know, and you promised you wouldn't tell anyone, so it's alright. Go ahead."
......Aww... ;_; Poor thing...
Rise hesitated for a fraction of a second, then reached out and took the notebook with a smile. "Okay then, if you're sure!"
It is a little sad..but she's kind of expecting it, so she'll be alright. I think.
She let Rise take the notebook and scratched her head nervously. "Of course I'm sure!"
...Enoch might still get an earful from Rise should they ever meet. |D
...Then again, they could be stuck here for quite a while, so it might be fairly permanent...
It didn't take Rise long to read the letter, and she was smiling and nodding at certain parts, making little awww noises at others, and had slightly teary eyes by the end.
"It looks great to me," she said with a smile, and a soft sniffle that had nothing to do with the cold. "You told him how you really feel...that's all you can do. It's all up to him now...but he'd better appreciate the trouble you went through to give him this, regardless of his answer!"
While Tohko would like that, it would make their relationship all the more awkward. I approve!
And Tohko grinned as she spoke and gushed. As she watched Rise read the letter, she kept smiling a little bit, even though she did look a little embarrassed whenever she went 'aww'. When she saw that Rise had wet eyes, she pulled a clean tissue out of her pocket and handed it to her.
It was going to be for her cold, but Rise needed it more than she did at the moment. Tohko smiled and nodded.
"I'm glad you liked it. And don't worry. Enoch's not one to brush off or not see acts of courage, so he'll probably appreciate it, even if he turns me down."
...In that case, they're just gonna have to meet at some point, aren't they. >B]
Rise accepted the tissue with a "Thanks" as she handed back the letter--her own (faintly bloodstained) handkerchief was still drying from the last time she'd scrubbed it clean in the bathroom, and she hadn't thought to grab anything else to use instead--and dabbed at her eyes.
"I'm not surprised. Tohko-chan doesn't seem like the type of person to like someone who wouldn't appreciate that sort of thing. I mean...you seem really nice, so I can't imagine you falling for someone who isn't nice, too."
...Then again, that sort of thing happened all the time, didn't it, where nice girls ended up with or chased after bad (or at least decidedly not-so-nice) boys...so Rise will reserve her judgement of Enoch until she's actually met him herself.
That they shall!..For better or worse..xD;;
Tohko nodded and took back her letter with a "You're welcome.". She looked at it lovingly for a moment before carefully putting it away in her notebook. It was the first time she had ever written a love letter..but even if the words got rejected, she was happy that she had managed to write them down.
Tohko then chuckled and nodded. "I'm glad I seem nice to you..and you're right! Enoch is probably the kindest person I know. He's pretty empathetic, so he picks up on stuff like this easily, and he still feels things quite strongly, even after all this time."
Tohko was the type who would argue with god and throw art canvases at people if she thought they were being rude or mean, so she wasn't the type to chase after bad boys or two timers, having grown up with a three-timer.

That last part of what the book girl said gave Rise pause, though. "Hmmm... But if Enoch-san is that sensitive to other peoples' feelings...do you think maybe he sorta knows how you feel already?"
She hadn't even met the guy, so her question wasn't founded on anything aside from curiosity, plain and simple.
no subject
If this girl were a story, she'd probably be like Tangerines. The thought make Tohko smile..until she heard Rise's question. Then she sighed.
"I don't think so..after all, I haven't commented on it or done anything too rash to make him figure it out yet. Plus, since he's immortal, he'd probably turn a blind eye to any clues he did get about that sort of thing, you know?"
no subject
"Yeah, that would make sense. Sometimes guys can be pretty oblivious to a girl's feelings, even if they're not trying to be insensitive." She gave a sudden, mischievous little giggle. "I didn't have that problem, though--I definitely didn't leave any room for doubt about how I felt about Yu-senpai!" ♥
...Maybe something like that would be the best way for Tohko to go, too...but then again, she doesn't know Enoch at all, so she can't tell for sure. Plus, Tohko doesn't really seem like the type--she seems like she'd be more shy but quietly brave about this sort of thing than blatantly and shamelessly upfront about it.
no subject
"That's true..that happens all the time in stories. It's good to hear that you let Yu know how you felt right off the bat though! Not many girls can pull that off, so it's great to hear that you were able to do it."
With Enoch, Tohko had acted like they were good friends-which they were-while slipping in small hints that she might like the guy. She didn't think she was being brave about it..but other people might think of her as being so.
no subject
"It's usually pretty easy for me to say what I feel in public...it's when we're alone that I don't always know what to do." A hint of pink tinged Rise's cheeks that had nothing to do with the cold or her fever. "But...just being with him makes me happy, so I usually manage to figure things out."
And if Rise had known that was how Tohko acted around him, she would've thought that that was plenty brave. It was just a less-direct approach, that was all--not necessarily better or worse, just different.
no subject
Tohko had shoved off any idea of romance in the past, since she didn't want people to find out about her secret. But Enoch was different-someone who knew about her true self and didn't mind that much-so this was fine.
"Ah, I understand that. In public, you have other people to bounce off of..but when you're alone, it's just the two of you. No one to bounce off you or interrupt you if your about to say something silly. It's just you and him..but I think that would make it all the more sweet. That's just me though."
Tohko smiled and patted Rise on the head. "But it's good that you can manage to figure things out eventually."
no subject
She gave a happy little chuckle, thinking back on the past year. "Different, but definitely in a good way, at least most of the time."
Another intense shiver wracked her body then; once it had mostly passed, Rise gave a sigh as she looked down at the keyboard in front of her. "I think I'm done practising for now...I'm too tired to do any more today." Plus, judging by how much her hands were starting to ache with the cold, it was definitely time to go curl up in her blankets on her bed and try to get warm.
no subject
"That's true..but they are good starting points sometimes, and when you have a problem you can't answer, sometimes the right story can show you the way. But..I imagine that it is good to be with someone in real life like that."
At her words, Tohko nodded and got off the table. "Alright then. Do you need help getting back to your dorm room?"
no subject
It was harder than usual to get to her feet, and once there she had to fight off a brief dizzy spell, but Rise still shook her head at the offer of help.
"I'll be fine. It's not all that far, really. Thanks, though!"
no subject
"I'll bet! It must be wonderful. And are you sure? It wouldn't be any trouble."
