Silent dormitory rooms are lined with bodies--not dead, just sleeping. Throughout the tower it is pitch black and silent. At the base of the tower, countless shining eyes, watching.
The tower hums to life. Lights blink on in one by one; only the dormitory rooms remain dark. A small army of blank-faced humanoids appear and spend the next ten minutes taking various positions around the tower.
An order given. The dormitory room lights blink on.
You are awake.
You can move.

Because from the moment she wakes up, Mary's heart is beating out of control, only she can't move. Oh God, why was this happening to her? Was she in Hell again? Did Shazam do something? Without moving, she couldn't even yell the magic words!
And then suddenly, she can move again. The instant her body allows her, Mary sits upright immediately, and whips her
hairhead back and forth to take in the unfamiliar sight. Then she shrieks and falls over the edge of her bed, and onto the floor in a heap of blankets and sheets.

"G-Golly, I don't know either! I think... we've been kidnapped!"

Oichi keeps herself seated on the ground, and sways a bit. As she speaks she's helped to her feet by what appears to be a smoky arm; the hand of it takes hers delicately and pulls her up. She isn't wary of Mary right now, even if she's a foreigner.
"The person responsible... ought to be put to death... yes, such a thing will happen... Ichi will make sure of it..."

"Oh! No, I don't think that's necessary at all. I mean, yes, it is a very terrible thing, but maybe we could just... beat them up. Just an itty bit. And then they can let us go, and we won't have to kill anyone!"

"A crook is still a living being. They might have a family that they love, there might be people that depend on that person's life to get by. Besides. It's not our job to pass judgment." No. That was God's role.

"I have a brother," she finally replies, voice airy and trailing. "Family... such a lovely thing... the blood that ties one to another, how fragile..." The living part doesn't concern her much, but she's reminded of herself at the mention of family. So maybe the crook is like her.

She is not glad yet, and looks entirely fearful and confused right now with her eyes darting around the foreign room. "Is there a reason they would take us? I'm afraid I've never seen any of you before."

"Good Morning! Maybe for a ransom?"

if the hand thing wasn't enough of a warning. Pleasantries aren't so bad, but at a time like this...Mercedes hadn't thought about ransom. It's possible, but then who? "Neither sounds like something I'd want a part of. Should we be trying to escape?"
no subject
"Of course! Why, that's exactly what I was about to suggest. Um- excuse me then" Then, Mary suddenly steps back, and jumps up on her bed as if she's about to do something spectacular. ...But what?

She tugs at the strange collar around her neck and waits patiently, in case something was supposed to be happening. Did she miss it? "Um."

"Now we can go look for a way out!"
