014 | ❝We promised we'd make a snowman when it snowed...❞
Characters: Yu Narukami and you
Setting: All around the tower
Format: I'll follow you.
Summary: Nanako is sick with that special variety of the flu and goes missing, which equates tothe Sister-Complex Kingpin of Steel her "brother" silently flipping all the goddamn tables no matter how late it gets.
Warnings: "Death", all the feelings, inability to can, Yu flipping tables better than Thor, and pissed/far-too-sympathetic headgod.
[So not long after the post (finally) goes up on the network, he begins searching high and low for one bitty whose voice somehow always reached him no matter what happened. She had to be scared right now, wherever she was, and in this place...
He may not ever voice it, but he is, too. There's no Velvet Room summoning to make him stop and calm down, either. Only more flights of stairs and more floors to search. And right now he didn't give a damn about the cold, so long as he could find her and keep her safe like he'd promised. He promised...
Maybe that's why he didn't care about the time, either. Or stop unless told to. Outwardly, he's still mostly calm until a monster shows up and then it is way beyond overkill on any floor where powers aren't disabled.
Suddenly the red gaze of his other self is not so warm and caring...
Though eventually he will tire, sitting on the 25th floor in front of a large fire to warm up before going out again. There is no rest for the weary.]

...You are the same kind of stupid as Sora.
[He takes a deep breath, pressing his head back against the wall, too focused on getting his breathing back under control to notice any kind of shift.]
There're some things that can't be solved by friendship... by people just being there. Or even by giving som'one a good beating.
[The worlds just aren't that simple.]
I got myself into this. I'm not gonna let anyone get mixed up with it.
[Not Sora. Not Yu. Not anyone.]

[Honestly? It's that little bit of humanity and compassion that keeps him from being exactly like the person he could no longer trust, and it scares him.
He focuses on that chuckle before the blue light of a summoning lights where he were, holding out a hand as Alice began to wander the maze on her own.]
I don't think you understand, Mister Riku. [She twirls every time she turns a corner, skipping instead of walking. Apparently the Persona loves mazes?] He reached out into the dark, and promised to play with me forever and ever... He's too stubborn and persistent to let someone else slip alone.
[Oh god Alice why did he fuse you you are still such a creepy child.
Oh right, Die For Me]no subject
[It's definitely better to be like Sora than to be like Riku after all.]
It's not that simple.
[It's not just a matter of reaching into the Darkness and pulling something - somebody - out of it. Darkness isn't necessarily evil.
For a moment he's silent, wondering, not quite certain... Can he trust Yu with what he is tempted to reveal? Should he? ...Does he even have a choice in the matter?
It feels like he's never been so close to losing control (outside the times when he had outright challenged the Heartless, but those don't count) and if he does... he'll need someone to take care of that. To destroy him. Yu is strong and... ultimately Riku trusts him. Enough to tell him.]
I'm not alone, no matter where I go. And... that's the problem.
[He presses his lips together, his right hand reaching up to press right against his heart.]
There's someone dark inside my Heart. Someone evil. If he's ever given the chance, he'll take control over my body and use his strength as well as my own to hurt everyone I care for.
I'm. not going to let that happen. No matter what it costs me.
[No matter who he has to alienate in order to keep them safe and away.]

That's just the thing. His friend is trusting him with a secret, and it's likely one he will keep to his tombstone. For a moment, he stops to listen. Both through Alice and himself. He would have been lying if a chill didn't run down his spine, when he heard Riku's plight. Still... it felt familiar.

[Their weaknesses, everything they hide... all looming over them like a cloud until they fall into despair. Like he had three months ago. Yu shakes his head, eventually staring at the palm of his left hand. He had been silent for a moment, but his voice was so sure when he spoke those six words. He hadn't been this sure, this resolved, since the fog entered the Tower. Her fog.]
...You won't be fighting him alone. Those you care about and try to push away [like you're trying to now] will still cheer you on, if not stand beside you.
[He leans against the hedges, looking up as he speaks. There even may be a bit of a tease in his tone, too.]
So, what are you going to do? Just hide in here and let it grow stronger?

And then Sora had come, armed only with that wooden sword from their childhood days, eyes earnest and sad, but seeing so far, far more clear than he had.
‘My friends are my power.’, indeed.
In his time in the tower, Riku has discovered that it isn’t quite the same for him, that it isn’t the truth of his own strength. Not quite. It’s not his friends that make him strong, not the bonds that sustain him, but rather that iron core of determination that has always been there from the start, that had pushed him to dream of the outside world in first place, the words that will forever only be known to him and Terra (and well, likely any version of either of them).
The reason why he had desired strength – why he still works and trains and does not dare to be satisfied with himself.
“So I can protect the things that matter.”
And that has never been only about his friends. This feeling, this will, the determination to go absolutely any length necessary, even if it means his life – that is his strength. His truth.
It is also why he won’t anyone get involved with this.]
They… can’t fight this kind of threat. And as much as I’d appreciate cheering, it’s not gonna do any good either. They’ll just get hurt. And… [His voice breaks at this; it’s a token of his trust to Yu that he’s admitting this.] …I can’t let ‘em see.
[He had let Kairi see, by accident, and it had forced him to hurt her in order to make sure that she wouldn’t get hurt worse by the Heartless should he loose control. He never ever wants to end up in that situation again.]
‘course not. I‘m fighting. Just… gotta make sure that everyone else stays out of it.
[He breaths in deeply and promptly starts coughing again.]
I won’t let him hurt anyone.
[Not as long as he has any say in this.]

It's time to give pause and silent support, as much as it eats him up inside and as much as he wants to dive in and cut down what's afflicting him. However there is no way, and he has no scan ability like his girlfriend, who is also acting rather off. Just like his little cousin, too...
All he can do is offer encouragement.]
Then I'll stay. [He punched out a death goddess and practically erased her existence with the many truths they'd learned that year. He doubts that, whatever it is that Riku is fighting now, would be much worse than that.] I don't know whether it's real, or whether it's a trick by Jason... but you are not alone. You can use the "light" Lucifer once mentioned if you need to.
[Maybe someday he'll tell his full story in return, but right now he needed to focus on keeping Riku warm while he fought "him". It's probably around then that Alice appears in front of him, leaving a blanket at Riku's feet and giving him a playful-yet-creepy look. She reeks of the dark to be sure, but the light of the one who summoned her is still prevalent for however long he manages to keep her called. ...Granted it isn't for long, but still-!
Also no he doesn't fully get why they said that when he first fused them, either. Whoops?]

He is just as glad for the encouragement and the invisible presence of his friend - and even more so for the blanket Alice drops with him; she is a strange creature, dark by herself, yet shining with Yu's light, and he chuckles lightly at the idea of using Yu's light, but drowsily decides that it's better not to mention that it doesn't quite work like that.]
...Thanks. I appreciate it.
[All of it. He really, really does.]
no subject
And come on; he's been around you keyderps enough to know that friendship equates to bond of light as opposed to truth and trust that it is in his world. At least that's what he's figured. It might be silly, but still.]
Anytime.
[And he means it.]
