Judgment 1: Arrival

Summary:Eiki tries to get her barrings.

Not being able to move after waking was startling, not quite frightening, but startling. Mostly due to the fact she hadn't remembered going to sleep. She didn't have time to sleep much and she had not used the Cleansed Crystal Mirror enough to require any. The other thing of quick note was that she was in an unfamiliar space and laying down. This was not her court room, something very suspicious was going on.

She didn't try and move for a while, the paralysis had probably past quite a bit before she went to move, but she had been busy thinking. She didn't have enough of a picture to make a decision yet, on what to do or what to assume. She would have to learn more first. The best place to start was of course the room she had awoken in. Bed, some sort of chest, simple provisions and a letter. The letter was a start, but not satisfactory.

"If I were to believe that at face value I would be considered a fool," she aid as she placed the letter down.

No, her world could not be destroyed, it wasn't something that could really be "destroyed". End perhaps, but not randomly. They would have known ahead of time of any potential changes.

Next was to check the trunk, she was relieved to find her clothes in there as well as some of her tools. She would be keeping those with her at all time now. With a quick change she decided to see if anyone else was around, or at least exploring every other door in her area in case there were more answerers to be found.


She was aware of some sort of requirement of eating oatmeal as ones first meal, but it seemed a bit strange. She wasn't particularly interested in it, and she couldn't say it was particularly appetizing to look at. She sat staring at it as if judging it intently while a hand absently went to her throat every so often to fiddle with the collar there.

"Hardly a meal one would want to be greeted with first thing."

She nods agreeing. If they were going to have something mandatory they could have picked something better.

"Considering everything else it also makes me wonder what it does to you when you do eat it. Such things aren't required unless there was an intended affect."

"I have been told by a source I am willing to trust, that without consuming the oatmeal first, the body will reject any and all other foods." Saber frowned. "It is a small price to pay in order to enjoy proper meals."

"So it may be giving you something so you may ingest the food. It would be a pity to have to pass on something later simply because this was put off," she sighed a bit. She wasn't being fussy so much as she did not like not knowing the full picture first. It was hard to judge such a situation, and so far the path that made the most sense also made her the most suspicious.

"Food is one of life's simple pleasures," Saber pointed out. She wasn't required to eat as her source of prana was constant, but she enjoyed food far too much to forgo it because of some oatmeal.

"It is, in it's way. I never much thought of it from a purely pleasurable stand point before. Food seems like something to experience with others, or to accept as a gift. Perhaps when a flavor is wanted or the season right. Moon viewing and flower fazing would not be quite the same without a proper sake to go with it."

"Sake?" Saber raised an eyebrow. "Are you from Japan?"

"You could say that, I have a lot of connections to it at the very least," she smiled at that, it was a warm smile.

"As do I, yet I am not from Japan," she replied. "My name is Saber."

[yamaxanadu]

"I am Eiki, it's a pleasure." she smiled pleasantly not bothering with her full title.

Saber nodded. "If Japan is not where you hail from, may I ask your land of birth?"

[yamaxanadu]

She takes a moment to think about the question and then precedes. "It could be said Japan is my place of origin, though my place of residence and occupation is somewhere else. A world quite close but also quite far away since I primarily deal with the dead."

Saber furrowed her brow at that. "I am afraid I do not understand. Can you explain more?"

"Well, I'm not a part of the living world, I exist elsewhere."

[scorchedchivalry]

"As are most of those like myself," Saber responded. "That was not what was confusing. It was your words regarding the dead. How do you deal with them? The dead are dead and belong in the judging hands of God."

[yamaxanadu]

"I suppose that depends on your belief and culture. In the system I am responsible for souls are dealt with differently. There is no single god to determine their fate, but judges to decide on whether they need to be punished or not. Those who have done ill are sent to Hell, those who have done good go to Heaven, and those who have not done enough of either get reincarnated."

"That is an interesting system. Yet ill and good are subjective things." A pause. "To most."

[yamaxanadu]

"They are, which is why as a judge it is important I take all factors into consideration. Individuals are judged as individuals, two people who do the same thing will not always be judged the same way, as everything about that person is a consideration during the process," how to say it in a simple manner, it was a bit hard but she tried none the less.

"It is a system that assumes that 'good' is simply being natural to yourself and accepting what you are."

"That brings me no comfort, for who determines what is and is not natural to oneself? Who decides these things and what gives them the right and the knowledge to know?"

Saber furrowed her brow. "And does the same sense of good and ill apply to all of the same kind of being?"

"Nature determines these things. People will give it different names, but what governs the natural world is still there, if we see it or not."

That was almost a harder question, she had a to think on it a bit more. "Perhaps the only answer to that is yes and no. The most complicated are humans, and they are diverse in such a way that you can't use the rules of one for another. However, there are basic traits that regardless of the individual are considered ideal."

"Such as?"

Saber was curious how far she had deviated from what was ideal, assuming she'd been ideal before. She didn't believe so, which was one of the reasons she had made the choice she did. Still, she had been tainted by All the Evils of the World.

"For humans the ideal is one who can accept what they are, who doesn't waste life, and an be at harmony with that which is around them. Also one who can fulfill their role with thought, care, and compassion. However the ideal is just that, ideal and not particularly practical, generally I'm happy as long as people put some effort into themselves, do their jobs, and try avoid going into the black," she would even award points for effort, but then she was rather lenient with people.
