Summary: Amberley's poking around and trying to gather information, all while playing it as safe as possible.
Warnings: The thread with Tohko has gracious amounts of talk of murder and other grimdarkness that comes with the verse.

Cafeteria: [ Amberley's got a big plate of something unidentifiable in front of her and she is grossed out. Is this the kind of stuff that the Imperial Guard eats on a daily basis? Maybe her expensive lifestyle had caught up to her, but she hardly doubted she could stomach what was in front of her.

Then again, if she didn't eat at all, she would grow weak. In a new place, this was unthinkable. So very slowly, Amberley tries to make her way through the meal. ]

Library: [ What better way is there to gain knowledge than through reading? Amberley's draped on a chair with a huge stack of books, reading at a pretty good pace. Occasionally, she'll nod and hum to herself, but other than that, she's completely lost in her reading. ]

It was the year 2017 when I left my world, almost 2018. What do you find similar? [Apart from Rat Shion had met no one here from his world, so he was intrigued.]

[ Another from the dark age of technology? This hardly seemed like a coincidence to Amberley. ]

From what it sounds like, your world focuses on more practical things. Or maybe that's just you, personally.

Though, you are in my past. I'm from the year 40,000.

It does, sciences are much more important there and the study of things such as art and literature are not encouraged and in some cases prohibited entirely.

[The year 40,000 that is long in his future depending on what kind of year measuring system they were using and how long recorded history had been going on.]

Yes. I'm a remembrancer, actually. I write and record history and even if I had some interest in writing something else, it wouldn't be practical and it may even be considered illegal depending on the content. The only paintings I've ever seen are in the homes of the rich and they always depict famous battles, commissars, and other such things.

So when other people speak of such things being done as a hobby, I have a hard time imagining it.

You write history? [Shion blinks at her, half in fascination half in suspicion.] It is the same thing in my world, though not even the rich have paintings, I think the last paintings were destroyed many years ago unless there are some outside of the cities...

I do! That's me, Amberley the remembrancer.

[ She gives a quick laugh at his confusion. ]

I suppose if they were destroyed, there must have been some reason for it. No use dwelling on the past, I say.

Do you? [Shion tilted his head, didn't she just say a remembrancer wrote down history?]

[hegantha]

Yes. It's history that's lost to us now. To be frank, I mostly record events that are currently happening, such as battles that will be important for future generations to remember, not art.

[Shion nodded] It's an important job, I think it's important the past is remembered properly.

[hegantha]

Yes. If the Imperium can't learn from it's past mistakes then it is doomed to repeat them over and over again.

[savedbyasong]

[Shion nodded] I guess that's right for everything.

[hegantha]

It's something to live by.

[savedbyasong]

It is. Which makes it interesting that there are no history books here.

[hegantha]

I noticed that. A shame, if you ask me.

[savedbyasong]

Yes, and suspicious. I wonder what they don't want us to know. And why they haven't just handed us a version of history that they approve of.

[hegantha]

Maybe they haven't thought that far ahead?

[savedbyasong]

Perhaps, but it is something that people automatically find suspicious, and in all other cases they seem good at keeping such suspicion at bay.

[hegantha]

That's curious.... and probably worth some investigation.

[savedbyasong]

[Shion nodded] It's not just that there aren't any history books. There is a section for them. And it is empty. As if drawing attention to the fact there are none.

[hegantha]

Now that you mention that, yes, I thought that was quite curious.

[savedbyasong]

It's something I can't work out. [And he didn't like things he couldn't figure out.]

Maybe I'll do some snooping around.
