They've called her down and forgot why they wanted to

Characters: Ryoji, now in Nyx Avatar form, and you!
Setting: Some variations, take your pick
Format: I'll match your choice
Summary: Five years since Nyx was called down and the damn humans still won't die! So she's reduced to trolling.
Warnings: Likely violence and discussions about death.

[Staircases by the dormitories]

Someone that looks like Ryoji is standing on one of the floor landings, looking up to see how many flights are visible. He appears to be lost in thought, and his form appears to be shimmering a little, going transparent and then visible, and transparent again. Despite this, Ryoji doesn't seem to be afraid or panicked. He just keeps looking up and up, like he's seeing something that isn't there...

And then, suddenly, two pairs of enormous, feathery wings erupt from his back, his hands (now raised) are covered in long white gloves, and then, when he turns... his face...

It's a white mask, something that you may have seen in plays back in the Greek times. There's a wide smile and holes for the eyes... but there are not eyes to see, just dark, consuming blackness.

Persona users will be happy to see that Ryoji's still staying his normal size, but the rest of him is still extremely unsettling.

[Floor 47/other monster floors]

Ryoji, now revealed to be Nyx, spends a lot of time on the more dangerous floors. Who really knows why? Perhaps to be with her own kind, perhaps to look for a way to control them, or perhaps to destroy them, find something to end if this world won't. Nyx can be seen on the forty-seventh floor, whispering at the curtains, and then nodding, seeming to understand. If she hears anything from the nearby staircase, she'll be off to investigate, exploring some of the other monster-infested areas.

[Cafeteria]

Nyx usually avoids this place until the evening, when she's so bored that even the monsters seem monotonous. She then takes a seat in a far corner, watching as everyone comes and goes, occasionally tormenting them. She'll whisper something too quiet to be heard yet still unsettling, or she'll invade your mind, discover who you've seen die before your very eyes, maybe project a nightmare of that to you or to another. Or maybe she'll just stay silent, but give you the strangest urge to go leap from the Tower's ledge.

Yes, trying is always so difficult. Nyx wonders why Minato keeps pushing on, after so long, after acquiring so many worries, so many fears, so many people relying on him. It's too much, just too much.

And wouldn't it be so much easier if Minato did just... give up? No more fear, no more responsibilities crushing him, suffocating his spirit. No more need to keep walking on, despite all the sadness.

And it's not failure. Minato's not seeing it through to the end, seeing if he wins or loses. He's just... stopping in the middle. It would be so much easier. So much more peaceful...

Nyx continues to put those little whispers of doubt and death into his mind. Wouldn't that be nice? To have Minato desire death, be unable to die... become just as twisted as Nyx had. Excellent.

Why did he accept the role of being the leader? Because he's the best choice for it, and he wished to help. So his friends can live on for another day in peace, and his comrades can find the truth they're seeking.

He's learning to open himself up to his friends, more than he did before his transfer. Reaching out, being with people he cares about, things he used to keep himself distant from. But SEES changed that.

His friends was the driving force behind his actions and was his silent hope in the tower. If his world wasn't destroyed, he would just get back there and continue on... If only his world wasn't destroyed and he saw their corpses.

Some small part of him wondered if he'll die and them once his ration of food ran out. But of course, Minato ended up being brought back before that could happen. Back to the tower where death was not permenant.

Minato shook his head. Such dark thoughts before he can even start getting his food.

Well, she had been getting somewhere, but it seems that Minato can so easily push those feelings aside for trivial matters of survival. She will have to try to delve deeper later.

For now, when he gets his food and begins looking for a spot to sit, she finally speaks.

"You plan to play the fool and cover your eyes to my existence? I can not be ignored so easily."

Because there was a faint glimmer of hope behind his desire to survive. And maybe desperation, too.

When it's time for him to find a spot to sit down and eat, Minato cannot ignored her presence any longer, now that he got his food. His footsteps slowed down to a stop, his gaze now on the powerful entity by the corner.

This was the first time he saw her, but some part of him knew who she was. Was that part of him himself or the fragment?

"...Hello, Nyx."

Calm and polite, he held no enmity for her. Maybe cautiousness and curiosity, but no hostility.

"Minato."

It's all she needs to say. She's not saying it for introductions, or to return a hello, just remembering the name of the boy who sealed her away.

...Although something was different about him. Something that was part of him... that hadn't been there when she fought him. What was it...

She starts a bit as she realizes what she is sensing.

"So... Death is still inside you. A small part of him, though growing bigger. Is he acknowledging his mother, or are you acknowledging your fate?"

Acknowledging his fate? Minato was quiet for a moment, before he answered her question.

"I won't answer for him." Fragment or not, that part of Death should convey his words without Minato putting them in his place. "...And no."

Since he's now in the tower, his reasons to keep going got renewed. He couldn't afford to break down (again).

"You should know by now that there is nothing either of you can do but accept this. There are simply no reasons to continue fighting against an inevitable part of life."

Nyx at least doesn't see the reasons. It would happen eventually, when it was meant to happen. There was no reason to fight it.
