[Well, it is. And at the moment, standing and examining the orange collar in great detail is pretty much all that's keeping Kurt from panicking.

The world's been destroyed? That's impossible. It's the only world there is, so if it's destroyed, then where is Kurt now? Some sort of afterlife, reserved for cynical atheistic teenage boys?]

At least I'll have something in common with the people here. [Kurt mumbles, giving up on trying to figure out the orange (ug) collar's purpose. After a moment of rummaging through his trunk, he finds his knee-length leopard print cardigan, which is at least somewhat better than the skintight white jumpsuit. He wraps it tightly around himself, hesitating at the door for a moment before poking his head out and looking up and down the hall.]

...hello? Anyone there?

Multi...no, no I don't. That's absurd. This entire thing is absurd.

[Kurt pauses, twisting his fingers together anxiously, the bravado of moments before completely gone.] ...would you please...define "unethical"?

[Almost bitterly:] I am well aware of the absurdity in this situation. But I suggest you reevaluate some of your beliefs about how things work.

[Or go nuts trying to apply muggle logic to the Tower, feel free to do that too.]

[Hidetoshi pauses, remembering the first days of his own arrival here, the bewilderment, the fear, and the general sense of nothing being the way it should be. He felt sympathy for this teenager's anxiety.

He grimaces, distaste leaking through his facade, but gives no sugarcoating as well as no details. Anyway, exposition time!] Your body, your mind, perception of the world around you—they can, and will tamper with all of that, no bothering with minor details like consent. Hallucinations, abuse of power, distortion of how you recall events, risk of fatalities, and deaths are common.

[He runs his fingers through his hair, feeling a little bad that this guy had ended up here with the rest of them.]

Basically, expect the morals of your average team of mad scientists given absolute control over a Tower like this when dealing with a month's experiment.

[At least Kurt isn't particularly violent or outspoken when it comes to fear or panic. He goes quite deathly pale, tangling his fingers together and squeezing until his knuckles go white. But he doesn't pass out and he doesn't have a complete emotional breakdown.

In fact, after a long moment of silent internalizing, he forces a very artificial smile and squares his shoulders before holding a hand out.] Thank you for the explanation.

I don't believe you told me your name.

[That's a decent, though clearly artificial to anybody's eyes, attempt to pull off being cheerful and an applaudable effort on Kurt's part to hold off an an utter emotional breakdown or panic attack. He waits out the long moment of silence with patience, and when he offers his hand, Hidetoshi takes it in a firm grasp and shakes it politely. Gonna ignore the fakeness of his smile because he'd pretty surprised if the news had been taken well.]

You're welcome. I'm sorry you were brought here as well.

My apologies. I'm called—[you look either American or British, so let's go with giving a name in the western order]—Hidetoshi Odagiri. And you are...?

Do you have any idea...why? [Kurt's looking for connections. If there's some sort of rhyme or reason to who gets brought here, maybe he can figure out who's behind it and maybe how to stop it.]

Oh, I'm sorry. Kurt Hummel, pleased to meet you.

[There's a pause.

No, he can't claim to have any idea why madmen would chose to do what they do in this place. Dax and Zo would possibly be either misguided, unable to work against their collages or under the belief they were actually saving people from the destruction of their worlds, but Jason and Ruana were... Unsalvageable, to put it one way.]

We have been given several possible lines of reasoning behind the administration's actions, but it's difficult to sort out the truth from the falsehoods. [Sadism, a need for expendable lab rats to experiment on, a mere part of a greater scheme, flat out madness... The conclusions that could be drawn for what drove them varied. Hidetoshi released Kurt's hand and dropped his arm back to his side.]

Just...just Kurt is fine. [Kurt seems a little flustered, folding his hands in front of himself and turning pink in the face.]

That would be awfully rude of me. [Hidetoshi shakes his head. Dropping an honorific would imply they actually knew each other: referring to a total stranger without it was more than a bit of a faux pas.]

Ah, what would you prefer I call you, then?

Either Hidetoshi- or Odagiri-san would be fine.

[Anyhow:]

If there is anything else you want to know, you may ask me if you'd like. Have you visited the cafeteria yet?

[Just concerned enough to be checking. Spending your first days in this helltower suffering from the punishment that resulted from not eating the oatmeal wouldn't be fun.]

I'm not particularly hungry. [It seems like a weird question, especially with all the myriad things that are more important.]

I see. [Usually the newcomers were starving. But it wasn't a constant side-effect of recent arrival he supposed.] When you do get hungry, I suggest you eat the oatmeal first, and bear with the horrible taste before trying anything else.

[Kurt turns mildly green.] Why?

[Are you feeling okay dude.] You won't be able to keep down anything else until you do.

[Oatmeal tho why D:] That's awful.

[Because the admins are sick fucks of a feather. :|] That's why I could recommend avoiding that particular punishment if you can. It's only required of you upon arrival however, so after you eat the oatmeal once, you wouldn't need to eat it for another meal.

Of all the ridiculous things. Any other absurd tasks that must be completed?

[Hidetoshi. looks at him. Of course there was. He closed his eyes, then opened them again. Facts, he loves facts and he didn't mind sharing them with the newbie.] Don't eat at the restaurant, even if it offers decent food, unless you feel like devoting more of your time to fulfilling more of these absurd tasks.

[A pause.] Occasionally, you'll get sighed up for a job.

...I'm assuming my previous experience as a coffee shop barista won't help much with these jobs?

[His normality, melodrama aside, is rather refreshing.] I assume not, yes.
