Little Finger

Characters: characters participating in the Little Finger game
Setting: a riverbank at night in a dream
Format: any
Summary: It's time to search
Warnings: general creepiness and horror warnings

ROUND ONE (complete): mingle | search
ROUND TWO: mingle | search

Round One [COMPLETE]
NO SUPERHUMAN POWERS; SEARCH THE GRASS, BUSHES, TREES, OR THE RIVER ITSELF
This appears much like the story you may remember reading--an old woman crouches next to a gate, searching through thick, wet riverbank grass. Thick fog coats the area behind the gate, across the river, and perhaps twenty feet in either direction from where you stand. Going into this fog, you feel, would be extremely dangerous--possibly suicidal. Eventually the woman stands up. She is missing all the fingers on her left hand and the little finger on her right hand.

"Please, could you help me find my fingers? I'm missing six of them."

It doesn't look like you have a choice.

Round Two [FOUR FINGERS REMAIN]
SUPERHUMAN POWERS ACTIVE; SEARCH ALL PREVIOUS AREAS, BRIDGE, LAWN
This appears much like the story you may remember reading--an old woman crouches next to a gate, searching through thick, wet riverbank grass. Wait, this has happened before--welcome to round two. You didn't find anything last time, and that's why you're here now. The fog remains, but it's drawn back a bit--travelling to the bridge, a simple wooden structure, is now possible without entering the fog, and the gate opens into the lawn of a house. The house itself is yet covered in fog, but there's a doghouse and the lawn itself to search through. Going into the fog still feels impossibly dangerous.

Eventually, the woman stands up. She is missing all the fingers on her left hand.

"Please, could you help me find my fingers? I'm missing five of them."

It doesn't look like you have a choice. All wounds remain from the previous round. Anyone killed last round returns, but they have a scar that reflects their manner of death.

[The gate is connected to a fence that stretches out and vanishes into the fog. The gate itself is not locked--although the fog is very close, it shouldn't be too dangerous to simply open it. There appears to be nothing out of the ordinary on the side of the gate Caster is currently on.]
koncubine: Caster frowning. (I can love you much better)

Ehhh? No luck, then.

[Well, nothing ventured, nothing gained, after all. As cautiously as she can, Caster opens then gate. She stays in the middle of the open space, kneeling down and searching on the opposite side with her hands.]

[The fog rolls in through the gate, though not as thickly as it stands before her. The area immediately along the fence is not covered in fog. It looks like no one's been mowing this lawn--if she likes, she could search along the fence without being in too much danger.

Still, the fog is very close...]
koncubine: Caster looking serious. (But today; there is a cold moon rising)

[Caster is no fool, and she's wary enough of magical fog to be careful here, too. A dream this might be, but that doesn't mean it isn't dangerous.

She inches just outside the gate with her right side, holding onto the fence as a precaution, and quickly feels around in the grass. If she doesn't find anything within a minute, she'll pull back in and try elsewhere.

[The fog is cold, unnaturally so--it feels almost like it tugs, as if it was some sentient creature looking to consume her.

While there is nothing at hand, as it were, a finger is now visible--it's several feet down, dangling from a string on the fence. There would be no way to reach it from the other side--if Caster would like this finger, she will have to travel along the fence and get it.

But something is watching her from the fog--though it cannot be seen, its heavy presence cannot be denied.]
koncubine: Caster turned away. (You know that you've got)

[Caster can feel that presence. Anything might spook it, so she stays silent and continues to move carefully. It wouldn't do to get caught now, when she's so close.

With the goal in sight, that's one upside to this mess. Another is that, despite her magic being sealed, Caster's body is in top-condition.

She slips out of her shoes and loops her legs and arms around the fence-post. With her long tail, she reaches down, trying to grab hold of the string close to the heavy end attached to the finger and pull it the rest of the way up.

FINGER FOUND; FOUR REMAIN

[personal profile] animusnpcs 2013-02-18 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
[The presence grows stronger and stronger as she moves. Since she's moving carefully and slowly, nothing attacks--prey, of course, would have moved much more quickly.

The finger is within reach using this method, and she'll soon have it in her grasp.

Still, once she's out of the way, something will strike the fence, making the whole thing shake. If she looks, though, she won't be able to see what it is.]
koncubine: Caster blushing. (Why do you kiss everybody but me?)

[Out of instinct, Caster holds her prize and rolls backwards, away from the fence.]

What was that!?

[Of course, she can't tell, and she sits a few feet away from the fence, catching her breath until she stands to return it wordlessly to the old woman. She's very ready to leave now, thank you.]
