Little Finger
Characters: characters participating in the Little Finger game
Setting: a riverbank at night in a dream
Format: any
Summary: It's time to search
Warnings: general creepiness and horror warnings
ROUND ONE (complete): mingle | search
ROUND TWO: mingle | search
Round One [COMPLETE]
NO SUPERHUMAN POWERS; SEARCH THE GRASS, BUSHES, TREES, OR THE RIVER ITSELF
This appears much like the story you may remember reading--an old woman crouches next to a gate, searching through thick, wet riverbank grass. Thick fog coats the area behind the gate, across the river, and perhaps twenty feet in either direction from where you stand. Going into this fog, you feel, would be extremely dangerous--possibly suicidal. Eventually the woman stands up. She is missing all the fingers on her left hand and the little finger on her right hand.
"Please, could you help me find my fingers? I'm missing six of them."
It doesn't look like you have a choice.
Round Two [FOUR FINGERS REMAIN]
SUPERHUMAN POWERS ACTIVE; SEARCH ALL PREVIOUS AREAS, BRIDGE, LAWN
This appears much like the story you may remember reading--an old woman crouches next to a gate, searching through thick, wet riverbank grass. Wait, this has happened before--welcome to round two. You didn't find anything last time, and that's why you're here now. The fog remains, but it's drawn back a bit--travelling to the bridge, a simple wooden structure, is now possible without entering the fog, and the gate opens into the lawn of a house. The house itself is yet covered in fog, but there's a doghouse and the lawn itself to search through. Going into the fog still feels impossibly dangerous.
Eventually, the woman stands up. She is missing all the fingers on her left hand.
"Please, could you help me find my fingers? I'm missing five of them."
It doesn't look like you have a choice. All wounds remain from the previous round. Anyone killed last round returns, but they have a scar that reflects their manner of death.

[Caster blinks in surprise for a moment, thinking it over.]
There's probably a few differences, but if the dead don't wake up at the Tower, something's probably gone wrong. The people in charge like to hurt us, but they don't usually let us stay dead. If this is one of their games, we'll probably be alright.
Of course, that's after they let us suffer for a while.

[Her gaze wanders back to the old woman and lingers there as she continues.]
I don't... like this. Something about it just seems strange. And I can't... [Her voice trails off and she shakes her head. She doesn't want to say, "I can't read minds." She doesn't like broadcasting that she's a mind-reader to everyone.] Some of the things I can usually do... I can't do them here. It's like being on certain floors in the Tower, almost. The fact that our abilities are limited in this place makes it even more dangerous.

[She shrugs. Honestly, she hadn't paid much attention to the note, though she should have. How careless.]
Of course your powers don't work. My magic isn't, either.
[SUBTLE, CASTER.]
They want to game to be fair, at least between the players, I guess. You're going to have to be smarter and stronger than the other people here to win.
Being smart might be your best bet.

[Yeah, stronger was definitely out. Her strength mostly came from her powers - a fact which Sheba is all too aware of. She frowns.]
It might be possible to watch until someone found something and try to trick them into giving it to me before they brought it back to that woman, but I...
[Would feel so guilty if she literally took away someone's chance of surviving this...]

[Caster nods, eyes closing for a moment. She knows this fact very well indeed.
She suddenly brightens, though, with a different idea. Maybe this kid doesn't have to be that cruel, after all.]
But maybe you can be smart a different way! If you rule out the places other people have found fingers, and get some information out of that old lady, you might figure out where one is on your own. How's that?

[Sheba looks a little uncertain, if only because speaking to the woman would mean she'd have to take whatever was said at face value. She knew better than anyone that what people said wasn't always what they meant.
Still, she nods.]
I'll try that... thank you for your advice.

[Caster is a decent actress, and she's not overly fond of children, but this time, there can be more than one winner. Helping them out once in a while is something she can afford to do, and her important people will be glad she did, if they hear of it.
With a little wave, Caster starts moving on to start her own search.]
Better get started, then. Good luck! ♥

[Sheba calls after her, before turning away, towards the river. Where to begin...]
