Setting: All the levels, with the cafeteria, stairs and the dorms as the safe zones. You can find more about the event here. Remember the stages of insanity for the Animus characters!

Summary: The tower appears to be overcome with a strange mist.
Warnings: general horror warnings for now

A strange, primordial scream. Perhaps something that didn't seem too out of place for this tower, yet there was something...off about it.

Then came a small series of rumblings. Something was stirring up in the tower. Thankfully the dorms seemed seemed fine. It was when you started to walk down that you realized something was wrong. There was dark mist everywhere. It wasn't natural. Even with a light, it was hard to see past the staircases into the levels, causing even more confusion. Thankfully, the stairs seemed to be safe and if you walked down the entire hundred levels, you'd notice that the cafeteria was safe too.

But that seemed to be it. Everywhere else, the mist was thick and seemed to hang on to the clothing and hair.

Then another noise rings out in every corridor, a laughter musical but somehow diabolical, not quite male nor female, asking a single question;

"Are you enjoying yourself?"

It looked like someone was wanting to play a little game with you.

Ryoji just keeps smiling, oblivious to Rise's terror.

"It's simple. It's my job to take souls as Death, the Thirteenth Arcana. I know I have the power to do it. I just need to remember how."

He looks down for a minute, brow furrowed in concentration, before he meets Rise's gaze again, clearly excited.

"Rise, why don't you help me? I just need to try on you, so I know exactly how to do it."

"Um...Ryoji-kun, I don't think that will help..."

Rise was damn near frozen in terror now, counting on her ability to act and fake her way through things not to run screaming. He'd just come up from behind her then, she's seen this movie before.

She does, however, take a tentative step back toward the stairs, trying to bring him along with her. Maybe getting out of the fog would break...whatever happened to him. Or maybe it would just make running easier. She didn't really know which she needed to do anymore.

"I can help you, though. Just come with me."

He follows, if only because he's not going to let go of Rise that easily, and listens to what Rise is saying with obvious confusion.

"If you don't think it will help, then why are you agreeing to help me? Will you let me try to save everyone? Will you let me try to save you?"

He lets one of his hands fall off of Rise's and flop to the side, and in the next instant, he's suddenly holding a sword. Somehow, he's summoned Thanatos's blade, and he doesn't look like he has any concerns about using it.

"I...um..."

Seeing the sword appear like that made Rise too afraid to continue trying to talk her way out of this.

"Sorry, Ryoji-kun. I really will try to save you, but...PERSONA!"

Rise stumbled back as Kanzeon appeared, raising her arms and throwing an Eiha spell at Ryoji. Rise prayed that "Death" meant "weak to light" so it would knock him down. And if you're going to pray while summoning a Persona, a detached part of her mind realized, it might as well be while you're summoning Kanzeon.

Rise's assumption seems to be correct. Ryoji automatically stumbles back at the spell, putting an arm up to shield his eyes as he almost howls in pain. For a few moments, he'll be focusing on getting his vision back, so if Rise is planning to run, this would be a good time for her to start.

If she does stick around, however, she'll hear Ryoji screaming at her.

"Why did you hurt me? I'm supposed to be helping you!"

Rise does run. She flees back to and up the stairs, knowing there's no way for her to fight someone with a sword, even with her Personas.

She just doesn't run fast enough not to hear that and she pauses, for a long moment, on the stairs as she retreated back up the tower.

"I'm sorry," she whispers, and keeps running.
