Characters: Shinji Matou & OPEN
Setting: Various floors, dangerous and otherwise, then Room 2-06.
Format: Action preferred, though I'll try to match.
Summary: Rider is gone, and Shinji isn't taking it well.
Warnings: Descriptions of a child's death-by-drowning in Part 2.
Notes: Part 2 takes place the day following Part 1, and is open to both passersby and roommates alike. If tag you into Part 1 without specifying a floor, I'll pick one myself; the only one that is really off limits is Floor 90, for reasons.
part 1 - various floors
[Shinji knows when Rider is gone, of course. He just doesn't accept it. He isn't the most rational, measured person at the best of times, and his circumstances now are obviously not optimal. So, rather than trying to quietly come to terms with her departure, he goes to look for her. He'll find wherever she has run off to sooner or later, he thinks, as though she's still somewhere in the Tower where he can yap at her until she pays attention to him.]
Rider! [He waits briefly, standing in the dormitory hallway. When there's no reply, he calls out again, louder and more agitated now.] Rider!
[And he keeps shouting for her as he stomps around the Tower, his voice growing increasingly demanding as he becomes increasingly desperate. He can be heard calling for her in all sorts of places, since while he starts with floors he is more familiar with and ones that are relatively safe, he soon begins to venture places an unattended eight-year-old really should not be. Mostly, he sticks to floors he thinks or knows would attract Rider—ones with water, or treasure, or that inexplicably smoky barroom—paying no heed to the way he is tiring himself out with all this searching.]
part 2 - room 2-06
[As it turns out, ten minutes is the perfect amount of time for reliving the way you died.]
[The lagoon had been a natural place to check. No one can blame him for going there. It isn't his fault, anyway—the blame lies on Rider, for leaving him in the first place, and those things lurking in the water, those things that had grabbed him before he even had a chance to scream. He can remember the feeling of their strong, wet hands wrapped tight around his wrists and ankles, and the way it felt to thrash as he tried to struggle free of them. But, more than that, he can remember the way it felt when he couldn't free himself. The panicked fear of death, the way water poured into his mouth and down his throat when his lungs desperately tried to suck down air...]
[His legs tremble when he is finally able to move again, but he makes himself stand regardless.]
[He can't take it anymore. As if losing to that pathetic no-name weakling wasn't enough, as if dying wasn't enough, as if being brought to this place only to have everything that made him special taken away from him wasn't enough, now he has been killed, again, by mermaids.]
[He doesn't even care that he's throwing what is undeniably a childish tantrum when he shoves his trunk over. He doesn't care that doing this might break something inside. What did it matter? He died, and now on top of being dead he's alone here, all because his stupid, selfish Servant went and abandoned him. He picks up an upturned item at random, paying no attention to what it is, and throws it at the nearest wall.]
[Unless stopped, he'll be at this until he calms down or tires himself out, and tiring himself out is probably the option that will come first.]

"Oi, oi.. Guess you're stuck in the room here, too. I'm Luffy. Sorry 'bout the book."
no subject
No duh.
[He probably isn't making the best first impression right now, but he also doesn't care.]
no subject
"Ahh.. Guess you knew him, too. He was a pretty good guy. A lot of people have been talking about him. Did you know him very well?"
no subject
Huh? What are you talking about?
no subject
[Luffy moves his way over to his own bed, bouncing upon it as he turned to face Shinji.]
"It's rude if ya' don't tell some one your name when they give you there's, ya' know."
no subject
[But the statement doesn't have as much bite as it normally would, so it just comes out as half-hearted grumbling. Without anything else to do it on, he wipes his face on his sleeve, not caring about the fact that he's getting blood and snot all over it. At least he seems to be calming down.]
Our names are on the door, you know. [...] I'm Shinji.
[Not that he cares much about being rude, obviously.]
no subject
[Reaching under a pillow, Luffy withdraws a drumstick of meat. His teeth find the tough animal flesh, taking a large bite of it and chewing happily as he watches Shinji.]
"What was he like?"
no subject
[Wow jeez what kind of moron are you?]
[A big one, apparently.]
Well, gee, I dunno, why don't you go ask someone who actually knew him? I just said it has nothing to do with him!
no subject
[If only you knew the half of how dimwitted he was, Shinji. But underneath that stupidity lies the brilliance of a man who never knows when to quit.. Which might actually backfire soon enough.]

[Finishing his meat, he chucks the bone high above his head. As the bone twirls and descends, Luffy opens his mouth wide and lines himself up with the refuse. With one fell swoop of his lips, the bone disappears with a gulp.]
"Mmm, well, whoever he was I'm sure he died a hero."
no subject
[Shinji rolls his eyes. He could not possibly sound more deadpan than he does in this moment. Flopping down to sit on top of his trunk, he pinches his nose to stem its bleeding.]
[Normally, he would say something about the eating, but right now he's to frustrated to care, and maybe a little exhausted from his tantrum.]
no subject
"So, why were you crying then? You eat something bad?"
[He points at the neatly stacked pile of books and belongings.]
"Did ya' lose somethin'?"
no subject
[Because obviously, Rider is just an important possession of his. That's all there is to his reaction.]
no subject
[Luffy? Social graces? None. None what-so-ever. He wasn't trying to kick Shinji while he was down, but it was entertaining to him that he was sitting here in tears and doing nothing about it.]
no subject
Oops, I guess I spoke too soon! If it was that easy, don't you think I'd be out doing that already? Trust me, it's nowhere, so I wouldn't be able to find her even if I did go look!
[He doesn't even notice that he let that "her" slip out.]
no subject
[Luffy rubs his nose, standing up and giving the young boy a rather confident grin.]
"Let's go, then. I'll find her for ya'!"
no subject
[For a moment, Shinji just stares, caught off guard utterly by his offer. Then, he looks away, his tone cooling some again, though he still sounds rather despondent.]
Don't kid yourself. I told you, she's gone. I can't feel her anywhere, so she isn't here anymore.
no subject
[Luffy extends out a hand toward the young boy. Though they are a number of feet apart, the pirate keeps his hand out, looking to Shinji as he waited for his response.]
no subject
I looked everywhere for her yesterday.
[And then he got killed by mermaids.]
no subject
[Luffy drops his hand, stuffing it in to his pocket before turning towards their dormitory door.]
"Come on. She's probably waiting for ya'. Let's go, already!"
no subject
no subject
[He crosses his arms over his chest, scowling at the lad from across the room.]
"So she's dead? You're just gonna' sit here and do the same? Or are you going to go out there and fight, fight and see if there might be some way to bring her back?
I don't know the details. I don't know anything about you or her.. But no one wants to see you this way, not even you. You can stay here. I'll find your friend, if that's what it takes."
no subject
Screw you! I already died looking for her once, and I'm not going to get myself killed a second time for that drunkard! [He just blurts it out, not stopping to think.] "Give up"? More like accept the obvious truth. I seriously doubt anything here could have killed her, and even if she had died, she would be back by now — like I am.
Nah, you're totally fine!
Just sit there and cry then, kid. I'll find your friend and find a way out of this tower, with or without you."
