Characters: Madoka Kaname [AU1] and OPEN
Setting: Madoka's room, floors thirteen.
Format: action spam
Summary: Shaken by recent events, Madoka has a long discussion with her other self.
Warnings: Mild angst, mentions of death and related matters.
[After the revelations of the past week or so, Madoka's nights had been racked with horrible visions of death and decay. Not merely linked to the fact that her home may, in fact, have been destroyed and all who inhabit it rung from the mortal coil without a second thought. The thought was devastating enough on it's own, but had become bonded with her other half's concern's as well. Kremhild Gretchen wore upon her amorphous shoulder's the title of Witch of Salvation, a name befitting one thought the best way to end the suffering of others was to kill them.
It wasn't the destruction of her homeworld that had bothered Gretchen so, as such whole sale death actually appealed to her twisted sense of justice, but rather the fact that that those in charge of the Tower had forbid all those they had kidnapped from dying. Without death, her ideals stated, the suffering of all those trapped within the tower would never come to an end. Nothing had ever made her angrier. Wishing to lash out against the people who had constructed such a horrible system, she had begun to plant more and more destructive impulses within Madoka's mind, leading to several sleepless night spent staring at the her room's ceiling.
Something had to be done or the future would be a bleak one for the both of them. That in mind, Madoka, wearing the heavy eyes and disheveled hair of a girl who had not slept in days, left her room in hopes of finding a place to sit and have a nice long chat with Gretchen.]
[After a short search, Madoka settled on the Tower's chapel as the site of her discussion with Gretchen. Due to both it's size and the fact that sound carried very poorly within the structure, it was unlikely that anyone would bother her. Sitting in a seat far from the floor's entrance Madoka, in her witch form, making no effort to hide her inhuman nature, sat and spoke to herself or rather, with herself.
Her words are slow and deliberate, as if she had rehearsed her speech for quite sometime. Mostly relating to events around the tower as of late, and the various messages that Gretchen had planted into her head a result of them, Madoka's words were laced with a mixture of anger and sorrow. She wanted to do something about all of this, she really did, but the witch's way was not her own. Killing those who had perpetuated such crimes would make her no better then them.
Passionate almost to a fault, it would be unlikely that the half-witch would notice anyone intruding on her little heart-to-heart talk.]

chapel;
But she soon notices Madoka, and decides to be nice and chat, hoping she wasn't interrupting. ]
... Hey, are you alright?

After a moment of speaking at no one in particular, Madoka finally realizes that someone was trying to talk to her.]
I'm fine, I' just needed to talk to a friend about how rude she's been lately.

Chapel
Madoka. So this is where you were.
Re: Chapal
Ah....Homura-chan, I didn't see you there.
[Madoka blushed awkwardly.]

She is feeling just as awkward, but refuses to let it show. ]
I was not doing very much to make my presence known. It is no fault on your part. [ Unsure of how to address the topic of Gretchen, Homura initially dodges it. Then, after gathering her nerves, bluntly continues; ] What's wrong?

[ Actually, she doesn't see. Homura still doesn't understand the AU. She does not even know witches have names, actually. It would be painful for her if she knew.
But she understands enough. She can draw enough lines and fill in gaps. ]
Glad to hear it, then.

[Madoka smiled.]
This all happened because Gretchen wasn't very happy that no one here can die and started suggesting I do horrible things to try and change that. I refused of course. But because of all that, I haven't slept in three days.
no subject
Which is a bit frustrating. She wants to ask Madoka about it, but doesn't want to reveal weakness. Not for her pride's sake, but because she wants Madoka to feel she can depend on Homura... ]
I have not had a chance to ask who Gretchen is. [ ... She can't protect Madoka without understanding, she reminds herself. ]
no subject
[Madoka takes a deep breath in preparation for her explanation. Even if she had accepted Gretchen's existence, it still hurt to talk about.]
Where I'm from, magical girls game there power by being fused with witches. Gretchen is just the witch that happened to be born when I became a magical girl.

Homura doesn't let her gaze waver, even if she feels a bit sick from hearing this. She thought the system was twisted already, but that... ]
So that is their alternative to the current system.

I wish there was something I could do. My wish was for the power to protect people, but I haven't been able to protect anyone here and it actually feels like everyone has been protecting me instead.
no subject
Why does she always think that way? Why can't a world exist where Madoka can understand how she does just by being there? Homura feels a slight boil of frustration. She wants to tell Madoka such a wish isn't necessary, that she protected and helped so many people already... ]
There are people you need to return to. You do not need to put yourself in needless danger here.

[She looks down, even with all the power she had gained she still had failed more then a few people who had been very important to her. It was why she had become a witch, and if she just stood idly by it would seem as if it all had been for nothing.]
I've already lost three of my best friends. I don't want to see anyone else suffer because I didn't try my best.

[ Homura shakes her head. She needs to be tough. She can't let herself get soft. ]
Just don't act alone.

[ This Madoka knows how to make a happy Homura. ]

[Madoka smiles.]

[ She'll try, anyway. It's hard not to want to smother you, Madoka! ]
