[dorm room 3-10]

[Sleep paralysis on its own was enough to put him on edge. Was this some kind of ill-conceived attack with magecraft? No, that wasn't likely--if it was and his would-be opponent had an ounce of sense in their heads, he'd be dead already. In the moments it took him to properly regain his senses, Waver ran through a list of hypothetical causes for this problem...each as unlikely as the last.]

[Finally, he was able to sit up and brush long, disheveled black hair from his face. Now that it occurred to him, Waver couldn't even remember having fallen asleep to begin with. Hadn't he only just been leaving a lecture hall in the Clock Tower? If he'd fainted, this didn't seem like any infirmary they had to his knowledge. As he considered the matter, Waver idly trailed a hand to the back of his own neck and froze. Though the collar's presence disturbed him, he could figure that out later. What caused him to halt in place wasn't the presence of something foreign, but the absence of something familiar.]

That's not possible. It's gone, how the hell can it possibly-- [He muttered under his breath for a second, double checking to be sure whatever it was (likely a necklace of some kind, from how he was acting) had actually gone missing.]

[One might find him shortly after that, rummaging through his trunk with some very determined sense of urgency.]

[floor eighty-one]

[Standing before the windows and looking skyward was one unfazed lecturer in a dark green suit, black hair tied in a long ponytail and sunglasses resting on top of his head. In his hands are a pen and small notebook, and every few minutes he pauses to take something down in chickenscratch handwriting.]

[floor twenty-five]

[Here, said ponytailed and sunglasses-wearing individual seems to be doing something a little strange. Namely, something with a case full of glass vials and liquids that might scream 'mad scientist'.]

[Or 'alchemist', if one knew better.]

[Whatever method he was using, Waver seemed to be analyzing a few specific flowers in the meadow, presumably to determine whether they were magical or supernatural in origin.]

[Judging by the frustrated look on his face? They're probably not.]

[floor three]

[A library; the natural habitat of clever people, especially this one in particular. He examined the shelves with a critical look, a small pile of books on the table nearby. Whatever he's actually looking for, it doesn't seem he's able to find it. He adjusted the sunglasses on his head as though doing so was some odd habit, scowling in faint aggravation.]

[anywhere else]

[Of course, anyone doing this much exploring is bound to run into monsters. Maybe he's on his own, or maybe he stopped to defend someone else. Whatever the case, he shifted into a fighting stance as though it were second nature and immediately moved to take down the enemy before him with swift, precise strikes.]

[When the monster had been taken down and the danger was momentarily avoided, Waver straightened up and did little more than dust off his dark green suit with a completely unfazed look.]

[Yeah. Totally a thing that happens every day, right?]

At that, Tohko nodded and..actually smiled.

"Oh, alright then! It's fine if you keep it short..you're probably sick of repeating yourself to so many people. But I imagine you and Diarmuid were a good team. I could see you two working well together, after awhile."

"We did well enough, I think." he answered with a small smile of his own. "He can be damn troublesome in his own way, but he's a good person."

[tohko_amano]

"He does have a few faults..but he is a nice guy. And that in itself is an understatement."

Tohko had the urge to ask about Waver's war and what other differences there were, but she bit it back. She had to stop being so nosy sometimes.

"I'm guessing he wore the sunglasses to hide his spot then."

[fionnuisce]

"Heh--that's why I gave them to him. You believe he sounded like he never thought to cover it up?"

Waver sighed in exasperation.

"For someone that smart, he's really an idiot sometimes."

[tohko_amano]

And Tohko couldn't help but chuckle at that. Diarmuid..that sounded like him a little. He had probably thought to cover them up, but hadn't really mentioned it.

"That does sound like him. I can believe that he sounded like that..I wonder if he actually thought about covering them up or not?

But..I guess that means you two got along well, after a little while. Even though you're both smart, you both do foolish things sometimes, but not often. You both are pretty accepting of other people too..at least, the Waver I know is."

[fionnuisce]

"I don't really have much of a problem with people unless they go out of their way to drive me insane." Waver remarked dismissively. "At least Lancer didn't do it on purpose--he's just accidentally infuriating."

[tohko_amano]

Tohko had many words to describe Diarmuid with, but she had never thought to describe him as 'infuriating'.

"How was he frustrating?"

[fionnuisce]

"Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't say a word against him. But unfortunately, his opinion of himself is somewhere around negative levels. That much self-deprecation would drive anyone insane."

[tohko_amano]

Tohko sighed and nodded.

"It is low..I myself have tried to help him with it on a few occasions. It's not really annoying..but it is worrisome. Could you give me any tips? You might know a thing or two that I don't that could help him out!"

[fionnuisce]

"I'd advise developing the patience of a saint. Good luck."

[tohko_amano]

At that, Tohko sighed and nodded. She thought she was a pretty patient person, but she knew she could use some improvement.

"..Thanks. The same to you. Everyone here needs a lot of luck."

[fionnuisce]

"I've gathered. I'll admit I'm a little lacking in it, myself."

[tohko_amano]

Tohko gave a small smile at that.

"Well, if you want, you can borrow some of mine! I admit, I have a bit more luck than some."

This reminded her of a similar conversation she had with Lancer. Not the one this Waver was a Master of.

"Heh... You'll probably need all you can get. I can take care of myself well enough."

[tohko_amano]

"Well, I don't doubt that you can, but a little bit of help never hurt anyone."

[fionnuisce]

"That's nice of you--I'll probably appreciate the help somewhere down the line. Hell if I know the kind of things we'll be stuck facing around here."

[tohko_amano]

"I'm not sure if you will or won't..but if you won't, I can tell you what games and things have happened in the past..even though I've already told you how horrible Ruana is and the situation with the Administrators."

[fionnuisce]

I'm positive I'll regret this, but sure. Go ahead and tell me."

[tohko_amano]

"I don't think you will..at least, at the end of all this."

Tohko then sighed and scratched her head as she remembered and told Waver what had happened in the past.

"First, in October, it was a Ruana month. She forced quite a few of us to wear costumes and collect certain amounts of candy for certain days. If we didn't, our costume would crush and kill us. We would then come back as a twisted version of that costume.

I..I became a homicidal maid and didn't manage to snap out of it until I killed at least three people. And my best friend lost his free will and broke afterwards. I don't think he ever fully recovered.

The month after that was run by Dax. No events happened. After all, he was the most humane of the five.

In December, Jason took over and made quite a feel people sick, with different symptoms. I lost almost all my senses, and he gave me schizophrenia. Other people suffered illusions.

And, in January, Riki took over and aged peoples bodies and memories to make them believe they had been in the Tower far longer than they actually had been. I wasn't affected, but Diarmuid was. I think..it's been weighing heavily on him."

Tohko then sighed again.

"And that's the sort of thing you're up against here. They've probably done far worse here-I heard Jason experimented on people in the past, putting them in cages and torturing them, but that was before I came here."

[fionnuisce]

"...This place just keeps right on surprising me."

He was definitely not expecting all that, at least.

[tohko_amano]

At that, Tohko managed a small smile.

"I don't think many people expect this when they first enter the Tower. But..at least you know what these people are like now..and what you're up against."

[fionnuisce]

"That's usually a good thing...really, thanks for the help. I don't imagine there's much I could do in return, but I will if I can."

[tohko_amano]

"Oh, you don't have to do anything in return! Really, I'm just happy to help out and bring people up to speed when I can. It's always weird when you first arrive, and it's terrible not knowing anything, so I'm just glad that I could help out."

..And Tohko would then try to pat Waver on the head. Or, if he was too tall, give him a shoulderpat.

Tohko, honey, he's at least a solid 6'2" now.

"Uh...right. Still, if there's anything I can do--I mean, it doesn't quite feel right if things are uneven like this."

Then Waver gets a shoulderpat. It was weird having Waver be this tall, but oh well. Tohko had dealt with a lot of weird things in the Tower. However, she looked a little puzzled.

"It doesn't really fell uneven to me."
