Edgeworth has found Yotsuba..
Characters: Yotsuba Koiwai, Edgeworth, and you!
Setting: Floor 24. Backdated to the 28th.
Format: We're starting in prose, but we'll match you!
Summary: After meeting Yotsuba, Edgeworth, annoyed that no one was looking after Yotsuba for quite a long time starts looking for her friends and anyone he knows that can take care of her. However, Yotsuba tends to run off when things catch her eye, which leads the pair to a monster.
Warnings: Child death if you're not quick enough and Edgeworth's scoldings if you happen to be someone that's met Yotsuba before.
Most people would not really see Edgeworth as the type to hang around with small children. Neither would Edgeworth, really.
Nevertheless, one thing that the prosecutor was not going to turn a blind eye to was a child wandering around the tower without adult supervision when there were monsters about. Therefore, when he discovered that five year-old Yotsuba appeared to have nobody looking after her, he decided to take the matter into his own hands – and that meant taking her around Floors 1-4, finding some of the friends she has already made in the tower – and giving them a good talking-to (because this child was on her own and exposed to danger and how irresponsible can people be?).
Holding the child by the hand so that he could not lose sight of her, he went through the floors, hoping to find someone that she would recognise. Perhaps, he would even run into Maya or the two Lancers or anyone else he has met who knew of the little girl’s friends.
Yotsuba, meanwhile, would happily go along with Edgeworth, not really understanding why the man was so annoyed, but, since this was pretty fun, she would wander around with him, sing sometimes, and mess up the prosecutors name by calling him Edgeworm (which the prosecutor did not like but let slide as Yotsuba was a child and probably did not mispronounce his name intentionally). However, she would get his name correct the second time she spoke it.
Everything was going well....until the two of them were busy making their way from the third to the fourth floor and spotted one of those little prize pod monsters floating on the stairway.
While the prize pod was not at all dangerous, Edgeworth did not know that since it was the first time he had seen one. In normal circumstances, he would avoid it. However, Yotsuba, who loved new things as long as they didn’t scare her, quickly let go of Edgeworth’s hand and began to chase after the monsters, hoping to get a proper look at them.
Seeing (in horror) the small child scuttle upstairs, Edgeworth tried to follow her immediately. “W-wait, Yotsuba! What are you doing?! Get back here!”
“I want to get a better look at that thing! Yotsuba will be back in a moment-” Yotsuba yelled to Edgeworth as she ran, but when she got on the twenty-fourth floor, the prize pod monster was quickly forgotten.
She found herself at the other side of the room, with a large, shadowy monster staring her down. And it was hungry.
Edgeworth, meanwhile, had tried his best to keep up with her. He was not stupid - he took everyone else’s warnings about the other floors very seriously and therefore had yet to visit most of them himself (although he was considering going to them with a few other people so he could keep up with what was going on in this accursed tower). Unfortunately, a tiny little girl was now putting herself in danger...
“Oh my god...!”
The prosecutor was right next to the stairs when he finally found the girl. Horrified, his eyes widened when saw that monster staring over Yotsuba. If Yotsuba did not run away from it or if he did not do something, there was going to be one very dead little girl in that room.
Knowing that he could not just stand there, Edgeworth called out to the child in a commanding voice. “Yotsuba! Come over here right now!”
Care to help them out, anyone?
[[ooc: Your post will have both Yotsuba and Edgeworth-frilliance-responding to it, so look forward to that!]]

"Run for it, kid!" Her voice was a little shrill. There were some times when she really hated the Administrators of this place, and times like these - when a five-year-old was in danger of losing her life, no, she could not be allowed to die, not now that they knew what happened to corpses down in the lower reaches of the Tower - were a prime example.
Purple lightning crackled at her fingertips as she swiftly ran right for the shadowy mass that was looming over Yotsuba. "Squall!" She yelled, tightening her grip on her staff before lunging forward to bring it down on the closest part of the monster. In the same instant, a burst of purple lightning struck the monster from above - with any luck, it should be paralyzed, but she knows in this place nothing is a constant and there have been times in the past where Squall has failed to paralyze its target, so she immediately tries to run around the thing. If it's not paralyzed, if that little girl has to run for the stairs, she needs to cover her.

"Daddddyyy!!!!" Instinctively, she called out for her father, even though she knew he wasn't here and wouldn't be here for awhile.

Okay, whatever. There was no time to be stunned. Now, he had to get Yotsuba off this floor. Before things took a turn for the worse.
Slowly, Edgeworth took a couple of steps away from the stairs, ready to grab the girl's hand or arm so he could quickly grab her and make it for the next floor.
"Over here!" he yelled to the small child. Hopefully, she would reach him in time...

He pauses only for a moment in the floor entry to take in the scene before almost literally disappearing as he begins moving so quickly normal human eyes won't be able to follow him. The first thing he does is gather the little girl into one arm to get her away from the monster. She's obviously a non-combatant and the one in the most danger.
The other person on the floor is obviously a fighter, though and just grabbing her might not be a good idea, so he calls out to her first, "Just relax a moment!" He then drops an arm around her waist picking her up as well before dashing back toward the safe end of the floor.

Relax? Why would she be relaxing-- oh. Well, that explains it. Diarmuid is moving faster than she could, and so while she's not overly fond of being lugged around like a sack of potatoes, she's well aware that getting caught by that monster could be much worse. And he'd at least warned her, so when he picks her up she doesn't struggle.
She notes with relief that the man carrying her also has Yotsuba - good. Maybe they'll be able to get out of this without any injury after all.

"W-who are you?! Friend or foes?!"
no subject
Never mind. Whatever weird powers his roommate had, they seemed to out-speed the monster!
Well, no time to think about it. Now might be a good time to get out of here. The prosecutor turned and made his way back to the stairs. Thankfully, he was not too far. Hopefully, the others would make it in time?

Well, he sets the older girl down anyway. The younger he settles into both arms and lifts slightly so he can look her in the face, "We are friends, little one. Are you all right?"
At the same time he asks the question, he curses the tower and its administrators. It had been bad enough to see someone as young as Sephiroth here, but the boy can at least protect himself. This little one is even younger and seems to have no way of protecting herself. Diarmuid is extremely thankful that he was able to get to them in time.

She shifts a little so that she can glance up at Yotsuba. The girl looks shaken and a little worse for the wear, but she's not dead, and that's what matters most.
Diarmuid has already asked the child if she's alright, so for now, Sheba keeps quiet.

..And it wasn't every day that someone picked you up and lifted you like Diarmuid was doing. Yotsuba was more used to crawling on people to gain their height, but..this wasn't bad either, and once she heard that these people were friends and not foes, she smiled and beamed a little. Once you were a friend, Yotsuba didn't tend to suspect you unless you did something later.
"Yotsuba is alright!" Then, remembering her manners, she added a "Thank you!".

While Edgeworth did not sit down like Sheba did, he took a tissue out of his pocket (curse the lack of handkerchiefs) and wiped his forehead. That was certainly frightening, but thank god it's over and nobody was hurt.
After putting the tissue back in his pocket, he turned to Diarmuid and bowed. "I am forever in your debt." And then he turned to Sheba. "The same for you, Miss, er..."
Sorry for the wait. Been sick most the day. Blarg....
He smiles at her and ruffles her hair, but doesn't set her down as he turns to address the others. Part of him is worried something might set her off running into trouble again and another close call is probably the last thing anyone wants right now.
"What happened? Did you lose the list I gave you?" This question is directed toward Edgeworth, though there is no anger or anything like that in his voice. "This floor is marked as one of the more dangerous ones because of that shadow." His voice drops to a mutter, "Though this is why putting warnings on the doors themselves might be a good idea. If they would stay. I don't know if they would or not..."
"Though, that isn't really important for now. My name is Diarmuid Ua Duibhne," his introduction is for the two girls who he hasn't met before. "I actually share a room with Edgeworth. I'm glad that I was able to get here in time to help. If you ever need help again, I would hope you will come looking for me. I do routinely patrol the floors for reasons just like this one."
I'm sorry too! OTL Feel free to skip me if I take so long again.
Her gaze flicks to Edgeworth when he addresses her. "Sheba. My name is Sheba." Then she smiles and looks from the prosecutor to the man who had quite literally dragged her out of danger. "It's nice to meet you... both of you."
Then to Yotsuba - "I'm glad you're not hurt."
Her eyes return to Diarmuid after a moment, though, because the talk of patrols has piqued her interest. "I guess with speed like yours, you'd be able to get almost anywhere very quickly. That's really useful!"
It's alright!~ Don't worry about it!
However, when Diarmuid introduced himself, she smiled and nodded.
"It's nice to meet you, Dia..Diamud! Yotsuba will remember that!"
She really would. She wasn't the type to forget offers like that sometimes. However, when Sheba spoke to her, her gaze turned to the girl, and she nodded.
"It's nice to meet you too, Sheba! I'm glad I'm not hurt too! Thank you for helping!"
It's no problem at all. <3
“No, I haven’t lost it,” he replied, taking his organizer out of his jacket and pulling the said note out of it. “I took your warnings quite seriously. However, had a certain young lady not decided to leave my sight and run straight into danger...” With that, the prosecutor turned to Yotsuba with a frown.
“I certainly hope you don’t that again, Yotsuba. I told you that this place was dangerous. Thank heavens these two came along before anything terrible happened.”
Sorry, Yotsuba. Edgeworth really was worried about you and he felt that someone had to tick you off so that nothing like this happened again.

He turns his attention back to the girl in his arms, "Edgeworth is right, little one. I know it must be hard to be in a place like this and be careful when you probably want to learn everything you can about it, " his daughter'd had the same strong curiosity that this girl seems to have, after all, "but you do need to be careful. You don't want to make the people who care about you sad, do you? And besides, it would not be nearly so fun to explore with an injury, would it?"
Death would also make it pretty hard to explore, but he doesn't want to scare her too much. Besides, at her age, it can be very hard to tell how much she actually understands. Some children at this age understand very quickly and easily. Others aren't quite ready for those kind of thought processes yet.

She shakes her head at Edgeworth, though - because she simply doesn't feel like she can agree with him. "You don't owe me anything. We should all look out for each other, while we're stuck here. That's all there is to it."
For a moment or two, she looks thoughtful. Diarmuid seems to be doing a really great thing; that's... honestly something she'd like to be able to do, too. "If you could ever use another person while patrolling, I'd be willing to help. We can cover more ground that way, right?"
As the two men address Yotsuba, she falls silent; they have the "lecture" part of this handled, she thinks. Chiming in to agree with them would almost be like beating a dead horse.

"..I'm sorry..I didn't know this floor was dangerous. Yotsuba won't do that again!"
At least, she'll try not to. She then turned to Diarmuid when he backed up Edgeworth.
"It would be bad if Yotsuba got injured..and I don't want to make people sad. I'm sorry. I'll be more careful in the fu..future."
However, she then turned to Sheba, smiling a little.
"We were..but you helped too! Yotsuba saw you!"
