[Thanks to combined efforts, Mondo's managed to set up the lounge to make for a pretty nice birthday party, all things considered. There's decorations and food, if mostly desserts, but he figures Chihiro likes that kind of thing so it's all good.

He knows Chihiro has plenty of friends, so there's not much worry about people showing up, but...he doesn't want it to be lame.

Wanting it to be a surprise, around noon he goes to get Chihiro and carry him in on his shoulders.]

We normally don't...or with nothing so much as this. Coming of age is rather different, though.

What do you do instead then? And what do you do for coming of age?

More often than not, it's significant achievements that are celebrated...and as for coming of age...it differs from place to place. Some new adults enjoy a richer meal than usual, some have been promised to be married and the ceremony surrounding that becomes their celebration of new adulthood. Many offer sacrifices, and some simply pray.

*You would think this would be something that everyone always remembers. But it's been so long, and he's been too old for too many years...*

*Enoch stops himself there and smiles at Chihiro.* But none of this is about me. Your friend is kind, to organize this party for you.

No. I was born an ordinary human just like you. *Enoch looks at the spread on the table, then, anything but looking at Chihiro, anything other than inviting questions. He'd answer them if asked, but...*

...No. And yes. *He didn't want to bring up his own problems at a party meant for the person he was talking to... Chihiro hadn't chosen to keep the subject change totally intact. But the story wasn't so painful he wouldn't share it if asked - at least in places like these he'd be believed. That was all he asked after centuries of lies, really: to be able to tell the truth.*

I was blessed with immortality in order to capture a group of Fallen Angels who had deserted Heaven for life on Earth. This meant three centuries of searching Earth to find where they'd hidden...

Blessed...? Fallen Angels...? Eh? Does that... make you a sort of Angel then? [And he looks rather impressed!] But why did you have to capture them? Were they causing harm to the people on Earth?

No, I'm not an angel. *Not as far as he knows at least. He's certainly not a normal human anymore, but...he's sure he's still human.*

But...they had stolen something from Heaven, something that would give humanity things they were meant to earn. But the worst of it, or so those of Heaven believed, was that angels and humans could not have normal children - any child born of such a union was instead a Nephilim. They were harmless by themselves, but they were in constant pain, and to escape it, they ate one another. When one ate enough of the others, it would transform into a flaming monstrosity that would rampage and destroy everything in its path.

*He hadn't wanted, initially, to talk about this. But it felt good to tell it. To not have to hide. It was true of Meridian, and it was no less true here. He would answer as long as Chihiro asked...though he did feel it was a little awkward the conversation was exclusively on him. He had conditioned himself to try to avoid such a situation precisely because revealing the truth could have had serious repercussions on Earth.*
