01 | or that look of surprise

Characters: Nessiah and you!
Setting: Room 1-04, Floor 98, Elevator, Cafeteria, Floor 3
Format: Will match yours.
Summary: Nessiah makes his entrance to the tower, discovers no-powers floors, and goes to get some food and research.
Warnings: Eye squick before he puts on his faceplate.

[Room 1-04]
[Nessiah had been displeased upon waking up here, but not frightened. There were few things that could frighten him after so many years of death and rebirth: a simple kidnapping would not accomplish it.

He read the letter and put it away, skepticism clear on what remained of his face. There were of course ways to destroy a world, but not many to do it instantaneously, without warning. He would have known that something was coming.

That done, he rooted in his trunk for his clothes and the chains that properly covered him. At the very least, he should put on his faceplate before anyone but his roommates saw the empty holes where his eyes should be.]

[Floor 98]
[The dormitories offered little interest to him, and the staircase seemed the obvious way to proceed. He avoided the glowing step of floor 101, briefly explored the crystalline caverns, then returned to find the next floor down.

The moment his foot left the staircase his vision went black as the spells he used to see were cut out suddenly. He stumbled, tumbling onto his knees as he landed on the pipe floor.

Nessiah tried to feel his way back to the staircase with his hands, but the pipes were unfamiliar territory and it would be too easy to fall into a hole...]

[Elevator]
[Having bee rescued, Nessiah wisely decided not to take the walk down past many other floors that could easily blind him, and took the elevator instead. He wasn't one to strike up a conversation himself, but he wouldn't be opposed to something to fill the half an hour it took to get from the top of the tower to the bottom.]

[Cafeteria]
[Nessiah was presented with terribly mediocre oatmeal, but at least it looked better than whatever else was being served. He took an out-of-the-way corner of the cafeteria and began to slowly eat, watching whoever else was desperate enough to come to the cafeteria for nutrition.]

[Floor 3]
[Despite having most of his face covered, Nessiah has no trouble reading, and has a large stack of books in front of him on one of the tables. It's quite curious.]

[Luckily the other person in the elevator is pretty chatty.]

What floor are you getting off at?

Yup, it is. [She glances over at him, and while the faceplate makes her curious, she doesn't ask. Yet anyway.] I'm gonna guess you're new here, right?

[While Tohko worked in the library, she spotted a boy who was reading quite well, even though most of his face was covered. Curious, Tohko couldn't help but approach him with a question.]

How are you able to read so quickly with your face covered like that?

[Nod, nod and she tilts her head.] Have you been told much about this place yet?

Right, lesse... [She clears her throat before she speaks again.]

You are in the 'Tower of Animus', after apparently being saved when your world was destroyed. There are four administrators in charge here; Jason, Riki, Zo and Ruana. There was a fifth one, Dax, but he was killed by Ruana.

This place has monsters roaming around the floors and hallways, and they increase in numbers and get a lot more dangerous at night, along with there being floors that can kill you or block any powers. Plus there's the experiments and random events that happen here every month, some are slightly harmless and others are... not so much, depending on which admin is in charge that month. Jason and Ruana are the most dangerous, and you were unlucky enough to get brought here during a Jason month.

[Pause.]

Also, eat the oatmeal first. And unless you like nutrition bars, you'll have to hunt for food this month.

[Tohko believed him, but that didn't mean she would let the issue die there. She loved magic and always wanted to know more about it when it was brought up, so, smiling, she threw out another question.]

Oh, what kind of magic? How does yours work, if you don't mind my asking?

You can find animals on Floor 32, though powers won't work on that floor. And there's fish on Floor 79 and plants on Floor 101.

[Kiryu isn't much of a fan of no-power floors himself; while it can't be avoided to enter them from time to time, it still feels like something vital is ripped from him whenever he looses the presence of his god from the back of his mind, when the black in his eyes recedes into white and he becomes bitterly aware of his vulnerabilities. While he hardly needs Ccapac Apu's help to hold his own, after years of being his chosen servant, he supposes their connection runs to deep for him not to feel at least just a little affected by its loss (however temporary it may be).

He is about to leave the floor in favor for the next one, when he notices the kid shuffling around, looking quite a bit lost. Well. He supposes, he can keep lingering a moment longer.]

Well, well... aren't you quite clumsy.

Yata had been exploring the tower, having only been here about a month or so and particularly keen to leave his room except to eat, shower, and go to the collar check ups. He'd just happened upon the elevator at the same time as this stranger. Not particularly wanting to be rude or stand in awkward silence or the ride, he attempted to make conversation with the stranger.

"Hello. This elevator ride is kinda long, isn't it? This whole tower is bullshit in my opinion, but I haven't been here long enough to really get a feel for the place. I've only been here a month or so."

Okay, so... [Pause as she thinks for a few moments.] ... Floor 101, 98 and 97, 91, 84, 52, and 36 down to 31 are all floors where powers won't work.

That..sounds like an interesting form of magic.

[It sounded like something out of Earthsea, but Tohko didn't mention that. There was no way the mage would know what she was talking about.]

Actually..magic doesn't exist in my universe, so that's why I was asking. I love hearing and learning about it though! If you don't mind..could you teach me a little, if it's possible?
