[Dorm Hallways]

[Watanuki trots through the halls with purpose. He's on a mission to find out what the hell happened and he's not giving up until he finds the answer. Sure there was that note he found but he's not dumb enough to believe something like that.

Maybe.

Okay, he's not ruling out that it can be true just yet but he'd like to get some confirmation first. Besides, he needs to find his friends the other residences of Ayakashi Hall, especially Karuta and Zange, to make sure they're okay.]

[Floor 87 (Poppy Room)]

[Watanuki's pretty sure he's gone down about half a million floors already and there's no end in sight. He's not even sure there's a bottom anymore. The entire way down, he's stuck to the stairway but what he sees on the floors he passes through makes him consider the letter's telling the truth because he's not sure what's real anymore. Either that or a demon's put some kind of spell on him. Or he's dreaming. Everything's confusing and he hates it. He just wants to be home or to see his friends or something.

He lets out a frustrated groan, and finally too tired to move on, he flops down onto right there in the middle of a stair. He lays there on his belly, all four legs stretched out, not really caring whether or not he's in anyone's way. Besides, he's too busy being angry at himself for letting some stairs get the better of him. How pathetic.

Which is why, if anyone were to walk by him, they would hear what appears to be a small raccoon dog mumbling to himself, obviously disgruntled.]

I'm so done with this stupid place.

[Cafeteria]


[It took him travelling down twenty floors before he realized that there were elevators. Twenty floors of odd rooms that can't possibly fit indoors. Twenty floors of slowly getting more and more weirded out by the tower. Not to mention twenty floors of hopping down countless flights of stairs in his tiny tanuki form.

Nevertheless, when he did, he took the elevator straight down to the bottom of the tower. He figured if anything, that's where the exit would be. What he found instead though was a cafeteria. While he's extremely wary of the place now, the smell of food makes his stomach grumble. He stands off to the side, conflicted over the fact of whether or not he should trust the food here.

Eventually, unable to take it anymore (because going down those stairs took a lot of energy) he makes his way over to where he noticed other people picking up food. When he gets there though, he realizes he has another problem. The window is much too high for him to reach.]

Goddammit.

[Watanuki tries to stand up on his hind legs but that doesn't seem to help at all.]

Shit. You've gotta be kidding me.

[He's much too low on energy now to even consider transforming back into his human form so all he can do now is resort to leaping up, in attempts to reach the counter.]

[Well there's something you don't see every day. Fuzzy forest animals that curse. Kain is wary, because the fuzzy forest animals of the tower tend to be vicious and lethal... but not usually chatty.]

[Congratulations! You've caught Watanuki in a bad mood-- although finding him in a good one is pretty rare so maybe that's not much of a surprise. In any case, he stops jumping and tries to glare as best he can, which isn't really threatening at all.]

Yeah, no problems here even though I woke up in a weird tower and everything here is dumb and nothing is going right.

[He wants to laugh. He wants to laugh, but he's not going to laugh, because aside from the small fuzzy thing pitching a fit, there's not much actually funny about the situation. Kain leans in a little, perhaps to better address Watanuki.]

You're having the same not-problem as the rest of us. Welcome to the Tower.

[He could offer sympathies, or maybe advice, or possibly warnings... but no, maybe that would be best left for someone else. He looked to the cafeteria window, looked back down at Watanuki...]

Do you need a boost?

[Maybe it's good that there are others who are going through, or went through, what he's going through now but Kain's last comment makes him bristle a bit.]

A boost? As if. Don't look down on me just because I'm small!

[Only his stomach betrays him and decides it's the perfect moment to growl. To cover up his embarrassment, Watanuki turns back to his futile attempts at jumping up to reach the window.]

Floor 87!

[Well he thought he'd seen what looked like monsters when he would chance glancing into other floors, but this creature? Hardly looked like it would do any harm, but he's going to try being careful anyway. Wouldn't want to have to take too many trips to the infirmary all the way at the bottom.

Wait – was it talking? Yes, that was definitely a voice, whether it's actually talking or only Henry can hear him is for now a mystery. Time to kneel by it and possibly start prodding.] Hey little guy, if you stay here much longer you're going to be food for the monsters, nya ha!

Cafeteria

[Taiki was barely tall enough to reach himself, he saw the small creature jumping and knelt down.] Do you need some help?

Dorm Halls

[Marisa was coming down the hall, broom over her shoulder, when she saw him. Eyes lighting up, she pointed at him.]

Tanuki!

[Oh, she is so going to capture him! Somehow.]

Gyaaaaaah!

[Obviously suddenly getting poked like that surprises him, enough that he jumps to his feet-- only one foot slips off the side of the stair he was laying on and it causes him to lose his balance. Watanuki proceeds to tumble down a couple steps. He does manage to catch himself though and when he does, he glares at the offender. He probably would have been a bit more threatening if his voice isn't shaky and strained when he speaks.]

Wh-who are you and what do you want?

[Watanuki gives the boy a wary glare before turning his attention back to the window. Sure he doesn't seem that harmless now but he's not ready to willingly trust anyone he's met for the first time in this weird place.]

No, I'm fine.

[Maybe it's his determination to prove himself now that he's denied help but the next time he jumps, Watanuki actually does manage to reach the window-- but barely. His front paws are able to grab on but the rest of his body doesn't quite make it so he hangs there, hind legs waving furiously in an attempt to propel himself up. It takes all of his willpower to not yell out in frustration.

Maybe some help would be nice but now he's too embarrassed to ask for it.]

[Suddenly getting called out like that catches Watanuki off guard and he just stares at the girl pointing at him with wide eyes, much like a deer caught in headlights. So he just stands there, frozen, as his brain works to catch him up with what's happened.]

[Oh, hey, it's just STANDING THERE. That means it's an easy target, thinks the witch.

A bright blue magic circle forms under her for a moment as she casts a strong binding spell at the tanuki. They tended to be hard to catch, and she wanted the luck.

And then she can rub the leaf on his head and kick the crap out of Reimu in that video game.]

[Wait, what. Suddenly the ground under her is glowing...

Seeing that finally kicks Watanuki's brain into working mode. He's not sure what's happening still but he's pretty sure he's not going to like it. Which means doing the thing he thinks is most logical.

He spreads his front paws out to lower his head and torso lower to the ground so that he looks more intimidating and then starts yelling at her.]

Hey you! What the hell do you think you're doing? If you think you can scare me, then think again. You'll regret it if you underestimate me!!

[Because, you know, this is a better choice than running away.]

[She giggled as she finished casting the spell and waited for it to take effect. Or not. She never could tell with tanuki.]

Aren't you the cutest thing ever with all that bluster~ Just stay riiiiight there.

[She started walking closer.]

[Watanuki couldn't believe his ears. How dare she say the c-word!!]

C-cute? I'm not cute!! I told you not to underestimate me. I'm a delinquent, you know?!

[Only his yelling doesn't seem to be working because she's still walking towards him. This prompts him to finally take a step back--

only he can't. For some reason, he seems to be stuck in place.]

Hey, what the hell did you do? This has something to do with that blue thing earlier, doesn't it. I demand you to reverse it or whatever. I'm not gonna stand this kind of treatment, damn you!!!

[midnightblackandgold]

Oh, that's just a binding spell. It's not gonna hurt you, ze. Just keep you from running away from me.

[She gets close enough to kneel down in front of him.]

I've always wanted a tanuki. Don't worry... I'll treat you real good.

[Yup. She's going to try to pet him.]

[He's recoiling away from her as best as he can while having the spell on him. Which isn't very well.]

Touch me and I'll bite you.

[His threat would be more effective if his voice isn't shaking slightly. This is bringing back some bad memories for him, to be honest.]

[She does actually stop, sitting down on the ground since she knew he wasn't going to be getting away from her.]

But I want to pet you. You look fluffy.

[badguise]

That's not a good reason at all! What do you think I am? An animal in a petting zoo?

[Wow, he wished he could transform back. That's why he hates being in his tanuki form longer than he has to but nooooo he has to have shitty control over his powers and now some strange girl thinks it's acceptable to treat him like a bunny or something else equally pathetic.]

I think you're a tanuki, which means you're full of good luck. I just need a little of it.

[Oh. Well. She's kind of right but he'd rather get out of this situation without his dignity going down even more.]

You'll probably need a real tanuki if you want good luck.

You're real. You even have the tell-tale leaf, ze.

[badguise]

[That gives him pause for a bit.]

Yeah but the fact that I can turn into one is more bad luck than anything.

[He's pretty sure he's all bad luck, now that he thinks about it.]

Oh hoh, trying to confuse me now. Can't trick this witch, ze. People don't turn into tanuki; tanuki turn into people. Like kitsune.

Don't ever compare me to those fox bastards! Tanuki and kitsune are nothing alike. [Wait, he has another problem to deal with first.] And why would I try to confuse you? I'm a person. I just can't prove it right now.
