001. ♔ +1 Hero Type

Characters: ProtoSaber and you!
Setting: Various floors; dorms, the beach on floor 62, the kitchen on floor 60, and the cafeteria.
Format: Prose to begin with, but I will match you.
Summary: Saber has just arrived in the Tower and he is searching for his Master. (Note: If you've started a thread with Saber in the Test Drive Meme and would like to continue it here, just drop me a note!)
Warnings: Uh. A King Arthur who's a dude.

DORMITORIES
Immediately upon his awakening, the first thing Saber thinks to do is, predictably, look for Ayaka. This is not to say that their sudden, inexplicable change of location and the documents the apparent "hosts" of this strange place provided for him do not concern him, for they do, but what is the point of worrying about any of that if he is not with his Master? For a Servant, being unable to sense the Master's presence is more than simply alarming— it serves as knowledge of how real the likelihood of vanishing is; for Saber, it is proof of his failure to fulfill his purpose, his only goal, because neither he nor Ayaka ever wanted the Grail and all the pursuit of it entails.

He checks every floor of the dormitories and finds evidence of the girl being somewhere in the Tower — her name on a wall — but he has yet to find her. Asking around doesn't seem to get him much either, so he tries to think like Ayaka. Where would she spend her time? What would she do while here alone? Stay somewhere safe... The living quarters seem to be the best place for that so far...

Ah, but Ayaka is a human girl. She does need to eat.

FLOOR 62 ; BEACH
As luck would have it, the cafeteria is near the ground level of the tower and while that didn't seem like it would be trouble at first, realizing that the dormitories are on the highest floors of a tower that seemingly stretches on forever was a shocking moment. Just what was this place? Saber opted for the stairs and as he began his descent, he checked several floors in hopes he'd come across one that seemed like an ideal hiding place for one particular awkward, teenaged girl.

One such floor is obviously supposed to be a beach, but as far as Saber knows, it's not possible to contain an entire beach complete with its own sun and wind, brine and sand, indoors. It's unnatural, therefore the only reasonable explanation he can come up with is magi. Obviously, magic on a scale he's seen only a few times in his life. He doesn't know enough about magecraft to know if this is even possible for an average magus. Some time spent surveying the waves leads him not to trust the safeness of the water's movements and he has to wonder why someone would craft an ocean that seems so eager to swallow someone up.

FLOOR 60 ; KITCHEN
Knowledge of modern technology imparted upon him from the Holy Grail only goes so far when it comes to understanding all the equipment inside the huge kitchen. He understands refrigeration and some of the tools, but he's never seen a freezer as large as the one he finds here, so he walks inside of it, curious.

"Do they prepare meals here? It's still a long ways from the cafeteria."

CAFETERIA
With the amount of people bustling around, a mealtime is underway and everything smells rather... floral. Being a Servant of sorts, Saber doesn't require food or sleep, but as he passes some of the tables, he can't help glancing at the plates of food and wondering what they taste like. It's been a very long time since he's enjoyed such a well prepared meal and a good cup of tea. Perhaps if Ayaka is here...

You didn't, think nothing of it. [Slipping the notebook into a coat pocket, Waver folded his arms and regarded Saber somewhat thoughtfully.]

Forgive me if I seem to be prying, but you look somewhat familiar. We haven't met before, have we?

[It was an honest question, though Waver seriously doubted the answer was 'yes'. This one didn't seem to match any of the Servants he'd met back home or in the Tower, and yet there was that faint sense of familiarity tugging at his mind.]
fionnuisce: (and it was not your fault but mine)

I am, but I must be mistaken in this case. My apologies.

[Waver held out a hand, casual as anything.]

Lord El-Melloi the second, Waver Velvet. And I would guess...a Saber, am I right?

[with all that armor, he had a one in three chance in guessing the right knight class.]

Just Waver is more than sufficient. I don't know why I still introduce myself like that.

Did you only recently arrive? You looked somewhat lost.

Who are you looking for? I can't say there's a good chance I know her, but the possibility's there.
fionnuisce: (move along like i know you do)

[personal profile] fionnuisce 2013-05-21 11:12 am (UTC)(link)
... [That got him to pause. Now he knew that name was familiar. He'd heard it maybe once in passing, but who was it that said--oh, right.]

You don't know a slightly obnoxious blue Lancer by any chance, do you?
fionnuisce: (when you've lost yourself completely)

[personal profile] fionnuisce 2013-05-21 11:23 am (UTC)(link)
I've seen worse, believe me. [Laughing to himself, Waver crossed his arms again.]

That Lancer's a close friend of my own--I'm almost certain I've heard the name Ayaka from him before. So you're from the same world as he is?
fionnuisce: (speak to me)

[personal profile] fionnuisce 2013-05-21 11:36 am (UTC)(link)
Your world's Archer...he's not that strange blonde one, is he?

['Strange' in that he didn't match up at all with the Gilgamesh that Waver had seen a few times before.]
fionnuisce: (oh my friends forgive me)

[personal profile] fionnuisce 2013-05-21 11:43 am (UTC)(link)
Hm. I did think he stuck out as being unusual compared to my knowledge of that particular spirit.

If it wouldn't be of any trouble, could you tell me more about your world? Which iteration of the War are all of you from?
fionnuisce: (could be a night when your life ends)

You're going to consider yourself his enemy here?

[Sighing, Waver seemed more exasperated than on guard. This Saber seemed reasonable enough, and any fear of getting his head lopped off had been forgotten by now.]

I'll try to state this plainly, if you don't mind. With no trace of any Holy Grail whatsoever here, Servants and Masters don't have much logical reason to be at each other's throats. My own contract is a matter of convenience and protection rather different from the war itself, so I'd rather not be thought of as an enemy Master. My questioning is based primarily on idle curiosity, not the prying of a magus looking for an advantage.

[Speaking in a mostly flat an unaffected tone, he paused to take a drink (this was surprisingly good tea for such a miserable hellhole).]

My primary concern is securing an escape from this place and the safety of those within it. With all due respect, I have better things to do than engage in petty Master and Servant battles. In short: you don't attack me or my Lancer and try not to kill the other one, and we don't have to throttle each other.

[Waver gave a slight nod in return, looking satisfied.]

Fine. Actually, that's a better answer than I would've hoped for. I don't intend to fight against you, but with the way this place works it's better to account for all possible variables. And since I like to deal in equivalence whenever applicable, you're welcome to ask me anything as well. I may not answer, but I don't lie.

[Right, then.]

I assume you're not from the Fourth war, unless your world is more different than I've accounted for. So which one is it--you're not all from an earlier one, are you?

[It vaguely occurred to Waver that he probably should have asked Cu Chulainn about this. Oh well, it never came up.]
fionnuisce: (it was your heart on the line)

Right over there. [With a pen, Waver pointed over yonder to where he'd gotten his own.] Please, don't worry about keeping me waiting if you want one. I might need a minute to figure this out.

[The Fifth was the one he held the most interest in, after all. Waver quickly started taking note of this, having no idea how confused he was bound to make himself.]
