001. ♔ +1 Hero Type

Characters: ProtoSaber and you!
Setting: Various floors; dorms, the beach on floor 62, the kitchen on floor 60, and the cafeteria.
Format: Prose to begin with, but I will match you.
Summary: Saber has just arrived in the Tower and he is searching for his Master. (Note: If you've started a thread with Saber in the Test Drive Meme and would like to continue it here, just drop me a note!)
Warnings: Uh. A King Arthur who's a dude.

DORMITORIES
Immediately upon his awakening, the first thing Saber thinks to do is, predictably, look for Ayaka. This is not to say that their sudden, inexplicable change of location and the documents the apparent "hosts" of this strange place provided for him do not concern him, for they do, but what is the point of worrying about any of that if he is not with his Master? For a Servant, being unable to sense the Master's presence is more than simply alarming— it serves as knowledge of how real the likelihood of vanishing is; for Saber, it is proof of his failure to fulfill his purpose, his only goal, because neither he nor Ayaka ever wanted the Grail and all the pursuit of it entails.

He checks every floor of the dormitories and finds evidence of the girl being somewhere in the Tower — her name on a wall — but he has yet to find her. Asking around doesn't seem to get him much either, so he tries to think like Ayaka. Where would she spend her time? What would she do while here alone? Stay somewhere safe... The living quarters seem to be the best place for that so far...

Ah, but Ayaka is a human girl. She does need to eat.

FLOOR 62 ; BEACH
As luck would have it, the cafeteria is near the ground level of the tower and while that didn't seem like it would be trouble at first, realizing that the dormitories are on the highest floors of a tower that seemingly stretches on forever was a shocking moment. Just what was this place? Saber opted for the stairs and as he began his descent, he checked several floors in hopes he'd come across one that seemed like an ideal hiding place for one particular awkward, teenaged girl.

One such floor is obviously supposed to be a beach, but as far as Saber knows, it's not possible to contain an entire beach complete with its own sun and wind, brine and sand, indoors. It's unnatural, therefore the only reasonable explanation he can come up with is magi. Obviously, magic on a scale he's seen only a few times in his life. He doesn't know enough about magecraft to know if this is even possible for an average magus. Some time spent surveying the waves leads him not to trust the safeness of the water's movements and he has to wonder why someone would craft an ocean that seems so eager to swallow someone up.

FLOOR 60 ; KITCHEN
Knowledge of modern technology imparted upon him from the Holy Grail only goes so far when it comes to understanding all the equipment inside the huge kitchen. He understands refrigeration and some of the tools, but he's never seen a freezer as large as the one he finds here, so he walks inside of it, curious.

"Do they prepare meals here? It's still a long ways from the cafeteria."

CAFETERIA
With the amount of people bustling around, a mealtime is underway and everything smells rather... floral. Being a Servant of sorts, Saber doesn't require food or sleep, but as he passes some of the tables, he can't help glancing at the plates of food and wondering what they taste like. It's been a very long time since he's enjoyed such a well prepared meal and a good cup of tea. Perhaps if Ayaka is here...

Oh, Saber. [Of course. That makes sense. He looks like Arturia. That's why he'd seemed familiar.] It's nice to meet you, Saber. [He doesn't mention the fact that Saber doesn't answer his question.]

That's right. There isn't. I wouldn't either. I'm not fighting for the Grail.

[He is, but he isn't. He's fighting for Sakura. That's all he cares about. If the Grail were suddenly brought here, it wouldn't recreate the reason he'd entered the War in the first place: to win the War for Zouken so he'd release Sakura. He'll still fight for that, but that will be when he goes home, as he still believes he will.]

My Servant and I want to help the people here. [Not that they always manage it, but they try.] We know other Servants and Masters, and we try to work with them. The administrators here--they have to be stopped. That's the most important thing.

[Kariya speaks unguardedly, with enthusiasm. He's not as cautious as Saber, even though he's ready to summon Lancelot at any sign of a threat. But he doesn't feel he has anything to hide.]

They're not. I've been here a while now, so if there's anything you'd like to know, I'll try to answer any of your questions.

[He nods at the mention of the beach's seeming innocence. He looks away, and his expression grows darker, sadder.]

They're very cruel, you're right.

Yes, I wouldn't go out in the water. There are many different floors here, and some of them are beautiful, like this one, but almost all of them are dangerous. I try to take pictures of them. [He holds his camera up slightly.] The pictures are only beautiful, they aren't dangerous. I like to think it might make things a little better, even though it probably doesn't.

Oh, is she? Maybe I know her. What's her name?

[Kariya would behave quite differently if he considered the War an issue here, but he doesn't. He has good relationships with other Servants and Masters, so why should this Saber be any different? He seems friendly enough. Kariya is glad to offer his help.]

I can't travel very quickly, but maybe my Servant could help.

[As he mentions Lancelot, he wonders again about this Servant's resemblance to Arturia. Maybe they're related somehow?]

Oh, I don't like to trouble him too much. I'm usually fine on my own.

[Kariya says this in spite of the fact that Lancelot would definitely prefer that he accept more help and not wander off on his own so much. But he's stubborn. He likes to have some independence, in spite of everything. That's why he's here, taking pictures by himself.

He doesn't repeat the offer of help once refused, however.
]

I'm sure you'll find her and that she'll be very glad to have her Servant here to help her. Oh, Ayaka--I remember that name. I spoke to her once, but it was a while ago. It's hard to keep track of people here sometimes. She seemed like a very kind young woman.

You know, you look like another Saber I know.

Oh, you remember them? I thought you weren't supposed to. No, we've never met. You're definitely not the same Saber. She's a woman. You just look alike. Like--siblings. But people do come here from different times, so you could meet someone you know who you haven't met yet. Or even someone from a different world, who met a different version of you.

Oh, yes! [Kariya looks down at his camera, happy enough to discuss the topic, easily led away from the other subject.] Not as often as I'd like. I have limited film here. A lot of the time, rather than photographing, I'm looking, for just the right picture. I can't afford to waste any shots. It's nice to look, too, to really appreciate the beauty of things.

I used to take pictures all the time, before...

[He trails off, not saying what it that time came before, but considering the shape he's in, it may not be too difficult to hazard a guess that that has something to do with it.]
